Unless you have been living under a rock (or in a state that doesn’t have Powerball), you know that tonight’s Powerball drawing is the biggest in history. $550 million. Half a billion dollars. Oh my. So I gotta know, did you buy a ticket? B bought us like $5 worth (go big or go home) and is in a lotto pool at work. And I am pretty sure he expects to win.
So that brings me to my next question. What would you do if you won? Would you quit your job? Buy a new house? Go on an insane vacation? B and I have talked about this and we’d probably continue to live in our current house (at least for a while) and buy a vacation property or two and invest the rest. I mean, we really like our house, so why move right away? Unless safety became an issue or something, because I mean, I’d be insta-rich and would likely have tons of long lost relatives popping out of the woodwork. We’d probably eventually build a dream house in the area once and we figured out what we really wanted. B says he’d quit his job, but would probably open up some shop restoring classic cars or something. Trust me, we wouldn’t be spending all day every day together. And of course we’d travel.
So did you buy a ticket? And what would you do if you won? What would your first purchase be? Mine would be these boots. Maybe tomorrow they will be mine ;). We can always dream right?
First I’d meet with a repitable (sp?) financial planner and put most of my money into interest bearing accounts. Then I would pay off my debts, my fiance’s debts and my parents debts. I’d buy a bad a$$ house and all the bomb a$$ furnishings and furniture to go in it! Then I’d go on a vacation to my dream spot, Tahiti, and then I’d promptly return back to work… I’ve put a lot of thought into this and I don’t think I would quit my job until kids were in the picture! I spent one year unemployed and the first three months were awesome and the last nine were pure torture!
No powerball in my state but I’d definitely pay off my student loans, buy a new house, quit my job and invest the rest. We always joke that we’re lucky we aren’t multi-millionaires because at least we know our friends really like us and aren’t just trying to get something out of us.
No Powerball here in CA, so instead of what we would do if we won, my friends and I are discussing how many tickets we would buy if we had Powerball. I probably would spend $5 and never know I won because I likely would use the the wrong numbers from a previous week to check to see if I won (happened before and won $7 bucks rather than the $2 I thought I did).
