Holiday Things That Sound Fun, But Aren’t….

Now that the holiday season is in full swing, I am once again reminded of Christmas activities that sound SO fun, but really aren’t.

~Holiday Decorating: Ugh. I always think this is going to be SO MUCH FUN. I’ll put on some Christmas music, have a drink and get to work. And it takes me all of about five minutes of lugging boxes around and trying to get garland hung just right for me to realize that this sucks. And there comes a point every year where I realize I don’t have exactly what I need for this year’s vision, so I gotta stop everything and run to the store.

Touch the garland and I’ll kill you.

~Gingerbread House Making: It’s taken years, but I have finally wised up and realized that building a gingerbread house is NOT as fun as it looks.  I used to think that buying the pre-made house and just decorating it was cheating and that the only way to do it was to actually assemble the house pieces yourself.  Umm, WRONG.

Much more fun when your house is stable.

Holiday Pictures: I had this genius idea to get my kids pictures taken in their Christmas pajamas looking all cute.  They’d smile and look all adorable and it’d be amazing.  And then we went and WB scream and L refused to look at the camera.

Not exactly what I had in mind.

Twinkle Tours: I personally enjoy this activity, but every year I try and talk L into going to look at Christmas lights, he looks at me like I have two heads.  And then we go and get to the house with the most lights on the planet and he’s all okay, let’s go now.  He’s also very picky about Christmas lights.  He only likes the multi-colored ones, if you don’t have a giant blow up Santa on your lawn you’re dumb, etc. But don’t worry.  We’ll try to impress him again this year.

Now it’s your turn!  What are some “fun” holiday activities you have realized aren’t that fun?  Or what things do you want your Christmas to enjoy, but they really hate?  Don’t feel guilty, share!

Christmas Caroling…you either freeze to death, or more commonly here in the south, the day you decided to share your holiday cheer through song turns out to be unseasonably warm. You wear your Christmas garb anyway, however, and burn up.

Baking Christmas cookies – it’s fun for about the first 30 minutes and then you can’t wait until it’s over.
I definitely agree with the holiday decorating too!3r

I just got Jacks pics taken at same place and I sneaked a peek at your pics and they were super cute with all smiles! I think you’d be surprised how adorable they will turn out.

I always plan on doing some really creative gift wrapping… a few gifts later and wish the paper would just jump on the damn thing itself!

I still need to get some holiday pics done…I am just not motivated enough to do so and Mason will not smile for the camera at all.

As I sit here in the midst of my 14 Christmas decor boxes, I agree about the holiday decorating….yet I do it every year! lol

This year I started Xmas shopping early and no matter how cool of gifts I get…they just seem so small and I feel I need to buy more…

I am with you. I used to love putting up decorations… Then I had kids, and now I despise it. I know I need to do it, but the thought of pulling out all of my boxes makes me break out in hives.

I love holiday decorating and wrapping presents. Just call me crazy. LOL but I’m not a baker and I hate having to go and visit everyone to give them my well thought out gift. I love taking the time to get the right gift and then when I give them and they love them I always get a little upset when they’ve just grabbed some random thing for me. I know it should be the thought that counts but really if there is no thought behind it does it really count?
