Now that the holiday season is in full swing, I am once again reminded of Christmas activities that sound SO fun, but really aren’t.
~Holiday Decorating: Ugh. I always think this is going to be SO MUCH FUN. I’ll put on some Christmas music, have a drink and get to work. And it takes me all of about five minutes of lugging boxes around and trying to get garland hung just right for me to realize that this sucks. And there comes a point every year where I realize I don’t have exactly what I need for this year’s vision, so I gotta stop everything and run to the store.
~Gingerbread House Making: It’s taken years, but I have finally wised up and realized that building a gingerbread house is NOT as fun as it looks. I used to think that buying the pre-made house and just decorating it was cheating and that the only way to do it was to actually assemble the house pieces yourself. Umm, WRONG.
Holiday Pictures: I had this genius idea to get my kids pictures taken in their Christmas pajamas looking all cute. They’d smile and look all adorable and it’d be amazing. And then we went and WB scream and L refused to look at the camera.
Twinkle Tours: I personally enjoy this activity, but every year I try and talk L into going to look at Christmas lights, he looks at me like I have two heads. And then we go and get to the house with the most lights on the planet and he’s all okay, let’s go now. He’s also very picky about Christmas lights. He only likes the multi-colored ones, if you don’t have a giant blow up Santa on your lawn you’re dumb, etc. But don’t worry. We’ll try to impress him again this year.
Now it’s your turn! What are some “fun” holiday activities you have realized aren’t that fun? Or what things do you want your Christmas to enjoy, but they really hate? Don’t feel guilty, share!
