Much to my (and B’s I guess) surprise, the December Mantry box showed up in the mail yesterday. Since the November box arrived less than two weeks ago, I wasn’t thinking we would be getting another one so soon, but it was time.
This month’s theme was “Into the Wild” and the information card explained it is “Because wandering alone into the wilderness isn’t as fun as getting drunk with your family (usually), Mantry has scoured from Sitka, Alaska to the Sierra Neveda to uncover the top-shelf craft, artisan and small batch makers from places you’ve probably never been”.
And here’s what it included:
Alaska Pure Alder Smoked Sea Salt ($10): I was overly excited to see this salt (out of Sitka, AK) in this month’s Mantry. It immediately made me think of Salted Caramel Mochas and that always makes me happy. I am also fascinated that an Alaskan couple basically started this company on accident and now this salt is used in some of the nation’s top restaurants. It’s not recommended for use in cooking (it’s too good for that), instead you should scatter a touch on top before baking. Or maybe throw it on top of your homemade frappacino like I plan to do tomorrow ;).
Kahiltna Climax Gourmet Birch Caramel Syrup ($11): Hot fudge last monthand caramel syrup this month? Yes please! Mantry suggests topping coffee flavored ice-cream with some warm caramel syrup (made in Palmer, AK) and then, wait for it, sprinkling on sea salt on top. You don’t need to tell me twice Mantry. I’m on it.
Motherload Sweet Honey Lavender BBQ Sauce($9.99): This sauce is made in Gold Hill, CO and is all-natural, gluten-free, and vegetarian. I’ve not hugely into BBQ, but I know B can’t wait to try this!
Juniper Ridge Douglas Fir Spring Tip Tea ($12): This tea is made from douglas fir tips which are harvested once a year in Sierra Nevada, CA. I don’t need to tell you again about my feelings on tea, but B has been drinking a lot of it lately, so I know he will be more than happy to try this!
Gary West Buffalo Strips($18.99): Within two minutes of opening this box, we were all eating buffalo jerky. It’s made in Jacksonville, OR and is really very good. I don’t know what else to say about it other than I am certain we will be ordering more.
All totaled, I came with with a value of $61.98 for this box. Mantry costs $75/month, so I’d say after shipping and including the value of the crate (which I am still totally loving), we are about even! And of course, we discovered a handful of products we’d never heard of before which is the point of this right? Want to sign up or learn more about Mantry? Click here.
