B’s much awaited November Mantry finally arrived today and well, I couldn’t wait for him to get home to check it out. So I opened it myself ;). There was some sort of shipping delay because of something (they e-mailed us but I can’t remember what the story was), so the November box was late to arrive. Whatever, it’s here now.
This month’s Mantry crate is a little different than previous months. Same exact size, just a different color wood. Dare I day I love it even more?
Oddly, my box had the September booklet in it. I e-mailed Mantry about it and they e-mailed me back within seconds with the November booklet attached. Turns out they had ONE September booklet left and guess who’s crate it got put in? Seriously, what are the odds?
Anyways, this month’s theme is “Thank You, New England” and features, well, things from New England.
The Mantry descriptions always cracks me up. I hope you guys can read them this time since the information card image sent by Mantry is much higher quality than I usually take with my iPhone.
And now on to the good part, here’s what was inside:
~Dave’s Coffee Syrup ($10.99): I am totally fascinated by this. You mix three tablespoons of this with milk and you get a Classic Milk Coffee. It’s made in Rhode Island through a process I’ll let you read about yourself, but it’s got no high fructose corn syrup, no artificial sweeteners and no fake colors – unlike the Jersey locals to the south. I am seriously dying to have a glass of milk coffee. I wonder how this mixes with red velvet milk ;).
~Quinn’s Vermont Maple & Sea Salt Popcorn ($5): This Massachuttes made product is described as microwave popcorn reinvented. Subtle, sweet, salty, and slightly addictive, our Vermont Maple & Sea Salt is a little like kettle corn excpet with the smooth sweetness of maple. It’s not just like throw in the microwave popcorn. It’s got two flavor pouches and honestly, B will not let me anywhere near this when it’s being made for fear I will screw it up.
~Vermont Smoke & Cure Pepperoni Smoked Pepperoni ($13.50): Without a doubt, this made from scratch Vermont Pepperoni is going to be B’s favorite item in this month’s Mantry. The pepperoni gets several hours of cold smoking in mellow corn cob and maple wood smoke. That doesn’t mean too much to me, but they say thin slices go a long way, so I am guessing it’s very flavorful. I will let you know. That is if B lets me try any ;).
~Dragon’s Blood Elixir ($7.50): This Connecticut grown hot-sauce is made in small batches with locally grown apples and habanero peppers and is guaranteed to cure bland food. I am scared of this and will not be trying it. However, I am guessing B will be putting this on his eggs tomorrow morning while drinking a glass of milk coffee.
~Bar Harbor Clam Chowder ($3.83): These specialty seafood chowders are loaded with simple, easy to understand ingredients and chunks of fresh fish and seafood and sound perfect for a cold winter day. They are made in Maine (where else) in small, hand-crafted batches and contain no artificial preservatives or MSG. Our can was dented, but I am pretty sure it’s going to taste exactly the same as an undented can of soup.
~Coop’s MicroCreamery Hot Fudge($11.95): This Massachusetts made hot fudge is made with only the finest European Chocolate and local dairy ingredients in small batches and I cannot wait to try it. First I need to get some plain vanilla ice-cream so I can really appreciate it. And the drippy design lid? Love it.
All totaled, the contents of this months Mantry were $52.77. Yes, that is less than the $75 price tag, but I probably can’t even buy half this this stuff in MI (maybe I can but it would take me ages to find it all) and it would cost me at least $20 to get it shipped, so I think we broke just about even. I would prefer a lower price tag (~$50), but I am guessing that’s just not possible. Mantry isn’t huge and yeah you are paying for the products, but you are also paying for the uniqueness of it all. Oh and the crate. I gotta start thinking of more uses for these. I love them so much! Plus, it makes B happy and if B’s happy, I’m happy.
