January Kiwi Crate

January’s Kiwi Crate theme was “family game night” and included two projects “my board game” and “my comet toss“.  We have been really into board games lately, so I was super excited to see this theme.

First Look

Like last month, we got started on all the projects right away.  I mean, heck, it’s the middle of winter, what else are we going to do?  FYE, I think the high here today is like 10 degrees.  With the wind chill, it’s -15 degrees.  It’s indoor play time this week for sure.

Project #1:

project #1: my board game
my board game: the materials

The first January Kiwi Crate project was “my board game“.  I’ll admit it, I like board games just as much as L, so I was excited to get started on this too.  It included everything you needed yo make and play your own board game.  This project was medium on the messiness scale, involved caring, creating and communicating.  Oh, and it was medium on the grownup involvement scale.

L pretty much did this entire project on his own.  He did let me color a few things on the game board, but that was about it.

Getting it ready!

L has recently told me he dislikes coloring.  I think they do it a lot at school and it’s just not his thing.  I really like it though and like to think I am pretty good ;).

It’s game time!

The best part about this game was the fact that L could not cheat.  He still won, but that’s beside the point.  Somehow he can stack the deck in Candyland without us knowing so that he always get the special cards that zoom him, well, to Candyland.  No stacking the deck in this game!

Project #2:

project #2: my comet toss
my comet toss: the materials

Project #2 was “my comet toss” and was low on the messiness scale and involved moving – gross, creating and communicating.  And was medium on the grownup involvement scale.  I felt like L needed my help much more on this than on the board game project even though they were rated the same.

score!!

L loved this game.  The score was a keep bingo style, so if you got it in the red circle, you got to mark off a red square, etc.  I believe we played 20 times in a row.  First L and I.  Then L and B.  Then all of us!  And L still wants to play all the time.  A total home run Kiwi Crate!!!

The January crate also came with a sample from their Limited Edition Handmade Valentine’s Day crate.  They paired up with Tiny Prints to provide all the materials and inspiration needed to create 24 fun and easy DIY pop-up cards in assorted designs to personalize.  I think these are CUTE and might just order the crate for L to give his friends!
