January Mommébox

My January Mommébox arrives today and I couldn’t wait to tear into it. In case you don’t know, Mommébox is a curated box of beauty and lifestyle products for the mom who wants to stay beautiful, inspired and informed. December (*) was the first ever Mommébox, so they are a totally new service.

The Box

I thought the black box was very stylish and could easily be used again (like to put presents in or something).

First Look

First look?  Meh.  I’m never a fan of a 1/2 empty box, so I wasn’t super excited about this. The red tissue paper is cute though.

The Information Card

Each month Mommébox has a different theme (they have all the 2013 themes on their website) and this month’s was “Healthy Living”. Per the card “this month’s products will recharge, refresh and revitalize you, helping your 2013 get off to a great start”.

And now, the contents:
~Click Expesso Protein Drink ($2.95): I know that Skinny Runner likes this stuff and I like SR, so maybe I will like this too?  I know we have gotten packets of this before (maybe at some of B’s crazy mud runs), but I’ve never tried it.  I think I am going to blend it up frappe style like they suggest.
~Dr. Cleengreen’s Handy Essentials ($5.95): Considering that we did just go to Chuck E Cheese today, this was a welcome sample.  I tried it out and the smell is “different” than most hand sanitizers.  Not good.  Not bad.  Just different.
~Dr. Robin (N/A): This is a coupon code for $10 off your purchase of $24 or more.  Since you have to buy something to take advantage of it, I don’t consider that it adds any value to the box.
~EcoTrekBar ($2.33): I’ve never heard of these bars before, but they are made in Michigan, so they can’t be half bad ;). They are Vegan and Dairy-Free and contain 6 servings of fruit and vegetables.
~Glee Gum ($0.76): You can buy these samples for $.01 on Glee’s website, so I calculated it and with shipping, it works out to $.37/each.  I don’t like gum (I know it’s weird), so I will pass these along to B.
~Health Warrior Chia Bar ($1.57): This bar is kinda little, so I am not real sure what you’d use it for?  But whatever, I also don’t like coconuts, so this won’t get eaten by me.
~Hyde Yoga (N/A): This is a coupon code for 20% off your purchase, which again, I don’t consider to have any value since you have to buy something to take advantage of it.  The card calls it a “gift card offer”, but I don’t.
~Plant Fusion Protein Powder ($2?): I couldn’t find single serve packets online and didn’t feel like doing the math, so I guessed at the value.  I suppose I could see a use for these if you had a dairy, soy or gluten allergy, but we have none of these.
~Sambazon Superfood Juices and Smoothies ($2.68): This is a coupon for a free product, so I will include it in the value of the box.  If I run across this at the store, I will grab some, but I won’t be making a special trip.

All totaled, the contents of this month’s box had a value of $18.24.  Considering that the box is $20/month (unless you buy four or more months, then it’s $16/month), this is not a good deal and not worth it.  I feel like they could have done so much more for a Healthy Living Box and they so missed the mark.  I rarely am not pleased with the boxes I receive, but this one just isn’t for me.  However, I did buy 4 months(*) upfront (in retrospect, not a good move), so they’ve got two more months to win me over.

(*) I just got my December box today too. I’ll explain that when I do the December box review.
