April Mantry

The April Mantry (aka The Modern Man’s Pantry) theme is “Awards Night” and includes 6 Products from 5 Outstanding Restaurants in America.  As a side note, I feel like I should mention taking pictures of subscription boxes and their contents isn’t always easy.  I use fruit a lot of prop the items up!  Probably because the fruit bowl is right next to me when I am taking pictures.

The Box

Mantry always ships via USPS in a medium sized flat rate box.  Their boxes are always SO heavy which I am certain ticks off my mail lady.

First Look

If the Mantry crates aren’t made JUST right, they won’t fit in the box.  I have to turn the box upside down just to get the crate out!

The Box

When we first started getting Mantry, the crates were nailed shut as tight as they are now.  Maybe Mantry thinks I have manned up now and can get it open?  But every month I stand at the counter like what I am going to use to open this sucker?  It’s all part of the game ;).  Usually I use a steak knife.  Please don’t let B be reading this because he’d kill me if he found out I was wrecking steak knives ;).

Second First Look

I hadn’t seen ANY spoilers posted on Instagram (I looked) so I had no idea at all what to expect this month.  Does anyone else like to see what’s in the boxes before they arrive or do you like to be surprised?

The Information Card

As always, the Mantry information “card” was jam packed with information.  And on the back, they mentioned they are having a giveaway for a luxury stay at Blackberry Farms, which happen’s to be Travel & Leisure’s #1 Resort in North America.  You can enter here. You KNOW I entered!

~Blackberry Farm Buttermilk & Sage Brined Fried Chicken Mix ($9.75): I am more than sure that I will break my healthy eating pact the day that B cooks up some fried chicken with this.   Blackberry Farm sounds like an AMAZING place to visit and I wouldn’t mind going there to have them make me some of this fried chicken!!!  My mouth is watering.

~Cochon Sweet Potato Habanero Hot Sauce ($8.50): I have never heard of Sweet Potato Hot Sauce and while I am not typically a hot sauce kind of girl, I am so giving this a try.  Mantry suggests giving your eggs a kick or bringing a lil heat to your fried chicken with it.  I mean why not give it a go?

~Pok Pok Som Drinking Vinegar ($15): Sometime I wonder if I live in a cave, because I have also never heard of drinking vinegar.  Really?  The suggestion is 4 parts soda, one part Pok Pok.  OR, you can make yourself a cocktail with Mantry’s receipe. I suspect we will be trying both.  But again, drinking vinegar?  Have you heard of this?

~Hastings Creations Pork Rub ($12): This rub comes straight from Chef Chris Hastings who won the Best Chef of the South award in 2012 and is the house blend at his restaurant.  I hope B makes me the blackened fish tacos they suggest using this on.

~Blackberry Farm Smoked Onion Jam ($12.50): For whatever reason, when I see jam, I immediately think toast.  But Mantry suggest beefing up a burger with this, or using it to elevate a grilled cheese!  I would NEVER have thought to use it in either of those ways.  Seriously.  I now also want a burger to try this on!  Can you tell I am hungry?

~La Quercia Acorn Borsellino Salami ($11): For the longest time I wasn’t sure where salami came from.  Is that weird?  But La Quercia is the best “American cured ham”, so there is no question where this comes from.  I know this going to be amazing and I hope B wants to taste test it when he gets home tonight because I totally do!

All totaled, my April Mantry had a value of $68.75!  I love that Mantry’s value is getting higher and higher each month!  I mean we always loved Mantry, but it makes me love it even more.  Every once in a while we have “Mantry Days” or “Mantry Meals” and will have an entire meal made of things from out Mantry boxes.  It’s quite fun and always VERY tasty!

Did you get Mantry this month?  What’d you think?  If you are interested in subscribing (it’s $75/month) or just want to learn more, click here.  And don’t forget to enter their giveaway!
