I was lucky enough to receive a package from Little Spark over the weekend and since this was the first Little Spark box I have ever received, I was very curious. In case you don’t know, Little Spark is an early childhood development company. Their “team of experts have developed a monthly curriculum for parents interested in development in babies 0 to 18 months old”. Each month they will send you “a kit that contains 2-4 developmental toys and books with an activity guide. The activity guide explains the skills your baby is developing that month and how to use the toys and books to encourage your baby to practice those all-important life skills”.

Little Spark ships with USPS in a big brown box with Little Spark stamped on it. I was very surprised / impressed with the size of the box. I wasn’t sure what I was expecting, but it’s larger than most boxes I have gotten.

Since Little Spark is curriculum based, their information cards have tons of details and are specific to your child’s age.  And as I read through the card(s) I found them to be totally true and even laughed out loud when they mentioned the lure of the remote control.  WB is obsessed with it.  Obsessed.  If he sees it, he must have it.  I swear he’d sleep with that thing if he could.

Our box was the 12 to 13 Months {Practice Makes Perfect} box and included the following:

~Munchkin Caterpillar Stacking Cups ($5.99): These stacking cups were included to allow your toddler (I can’t even believe WB is going to be a toddler in a few weeks) to practice a pincer grasp while also having fun!  The cups can be stacked on top of each other, nested or linked side-by-side!  Little Spark suggests using these with different materials (like water and sand) to see how to moves through the holes in the cups, which will help him understand cause and effect.  WB is super into bath time, so I am totally interested to see how he plays with these.  Especially since he usually just plays with whatever random toys L has in there!

~“I Love You Through and Through” Book ($8.95): I thought we had an extensive library, but all these books we get in subscription boxes make me think otherwise.  With this book you’ll be able to help contextualize the words as your little one learns the concepts of insides and outsides.  As you know, we love books and sturdy ones like these are even better. I love letting WB “hold” the books and he does too!

~Hape Mini Block and Roll ($19.99): This is the item I am most excited about.  WB isn’t real interested in building towers, but knocking them down, yeah, he’s all over that.  This set will continue to introduce your little one to different colors and shapes.  In addition to stacking and learning colors and shapes, they wagon will also help to develop the pincher grasp along with fine motor skills as he fills the wagon, empties it and fills it up again!

All totaled, the “Practice Makes Perfect” 12 to 13 Months Little Spark had a value of $34.93, which is exactly in line with the cost of the box, which is $34.95/month.  However, in addition to “stuff”, you get the information and guidance to help your little one learn, which I love.   WB and I haven’t gotten a chance to test out everything yet, but he certainly liked what he saw from the box ;).
