Tuesday’s Troubles

Disclosure: If you make a purchase through the links posted below, I may receive a small compensation. Read the full disclosure.

~So I have been complaining about how Fancy Box constantly ships Pink Fancy Boxes late.  Like I thought I got the February box in March, the March box in April, etc.  Except I now find out they didn’t have a February Box, it just started with the March box.  So they are really shipping on time.  So I owe Fancy Box an apology for that.  Or do I?  Because I got billed for 3 boxes ( on 1/27, 2/27 and 3/27) before I finally canceled at the end of April before I got billed again.  I had received two Pink boxes, so I was expecting to get one more right?   WRONG.  Turns out because they were so delayed shipping the first box, they shouldn’t have billed me on 2/27 (remember, I paid for the first box, aka the March box on 1/27).  But they did.  I found this out only because I e-mailed and asked WTF was up?  And now I am unclear if I am getting May box or a refund.  No idea.  Seriously, how confusing is Fancy Box?  I like their boxes, but geez, let’s fix that site!  And if you are still reading this and are actually following along, you should get a prize.

~It’s no secret that I am a big fan of letting my kids get dirty and play in the mud and get covered with paint and all that.  And I get that some people think it’s crazy and that’s cool for them.  But do they need to constantly tell me how crazy I am for letting L splash in mud puddles?  He’s a kid.  he washes clean!  And so do his clothes.  And if he happens to be wearing, gasp, white, that comes clean too. With bleach.  I swear!

~You know what’s really bothering me?  Farrah and her s*x tape.  It got released yesterday and I just can’t.  I can’t.  Oh Farrah, I can promise you that you are not going to be the next Kim Kardashian.  What was she thinking?  I know what I’m thinking.  I’m thinking I’m glad I don’t have to explain this to any teenagers who watch Teen Mom.  Because, umm, yeah, you know they know about it…..

~Ugh, so I did something to my iPhone and now I can’t send iMessages, only text messages.  I know they are the same exact thing, only they aren’t because iMessages are blue and cuter and don’t count as text messages.  WTF did I do??  How do I fix it?  Turning the phone off and back on didn’t work.  Updating it didn’t work.  Willing it to fix itself didn’t work.  Help me!

~I don’t know about you, but I am still troubled by the upcoming shutdown of Google Reader.  Seriously, what I am going to do?  I still haven’t settled on a service to read blogs in.  I just don’t love Bloglovin.  Has anyone switched and fallen in love with a new service? It’s going to be into a world of hurt when it’s really gone in July.  And umm, that’s sooner than I think it is.

That’s it from here for now! What’s troubling you today?

Go into contacts and click on your own name. Is your number listed as an iPhone? If not, edit it. That’s the only thing I can think of…

  2. Alicia

Did you go to settings–> messages?

  3. Carly

I *think* to send iMessages, you have to be on WiFi. I might be wrong about that though.

And ugh to the Farrah sex tape. I followed her on Twitter just to see how much of a train wreck she is. Big mistake. Huge. Also, I read that her DAD did some of the negotiating for her to sell her sex tape. That makes me want to puke.

To fix the iMessage thing: go to settings then messages on your phone. Make sure the button is pushed to on for the iMessage option. For the blogs: try the app Blogkeen. It’s what I use to follow everything. Hope this helps!

At first all the buzz was about Feedly, now it’s about Digg. I will prob stick with Google Reader until the bitter end.

I bet you turned your data off. You can only send iMessages when you are using data.

  7. Katie

Settings > Messages then you can turn imessage on or off 🙂

  8. Katie

And I’m in the same boat, why is Google taking it away? Nothing else is as good, as plain as reader is, it works for me 🙁

  9. Dana

For your phone, if you go under settings then to messages there is a little tab that turns iMessage on and off. Hope that helps!

  10. Viv

Glad you are a mom that isn’t afraid to let her kids get dirty. Did you turn off the iMessage option in your settings?

  11. clarisse

your fancy box rant cracked me up and I had to read it twice!!
how do you get imessage? you have to get the app?
I am now on blog loving and admit I don’t love it, but it’s what I can use for now!

  12. Lyndie Burris

LOL That’s actually the kind of mom I hope I am some day. My mom never told us we couldn’t do stuff like that (unless we were all dressed up for something) and we turned out okay.

Have you checked to make sure your phone is still connected to WiFi? Sometimes I turn mine off and then forget until I see I’m sending texts instead.

What’s the difference between a blog reader service and just bookmarking them in my favorites? I have a folder called blogs that I update regularly. I’ve never used Google Reader or Bloglovin’…am I missing something magical?

  13. Tiffany

If you go into your settings, messages, there is an iMessage setting that needs to be turned on. Maybe yours got turned off somehow? Sometimes, if we are having service issues, my iMessages will send a text message instead of an iMessage. I don’t like this because then I can’t see when a recipient has read my message and/or is responding like you can if it is sent as an iMessage.

  14. Glenna

If you find a suitable replacement for Google Reader, please blog about it! I am fretting about it as well and I haven’t found anything that I like yet! July is in only two months! Ack!

  15. Kristy

I agree about Bloglovin. I am not a fan and haven’t found an alternative. I still use my Google Reader and dread when it goes away.

I don’t know why people care if your kids play in the dirt. We did when we were kids and I’m sure my son will too when he can walk. Right now he loves being outside. Kids get dirty–like you said they wash and clothes wash.

  16. Angela

I know this is basic but you went to settings>messages>iMessage ON ? That would drive me crazy I get mad at people when they don’t have iPhones becaus ei love my iMessage!

  17. Danielle

What’s troubling me….I have 110 invites out for my sons baptism with an RSVP deadline of TOMORROW and so far I only have 68 responses! So, my phone is either going to blow up today, or I’m spending nap time tomorrow on the phone calling people who couldn’t be bothered to let me know….I swear people have no consideration.

  18. Lucy

The new Pink Fancy box looks good for once… You deserve to get it after suffering through the first two boxes!

for iMessages, go to Settings, Messages (the fourth section) and make sure you have iMessage turned on 🙂

    Hope that helps!

  19. mary m

I’d be not happy with Fancy. I hope you get a refund, or the may box, quickly!

As far as your iphone goes, go to settings->messages and then turn imessage on 🙂

  20. Hillary

Try going to settings and then click messages and right at the top it should say iMessage and you can slide it on or off, though sometimes even when mine is on it will still only send texts. Hope this helps!

  21. Elyse

For your phone, if you go into settings, then messages, there is the option to turn iMessage on or off. Hopefully that fixes it because iMessage is definitely better!

  22. Settings to messages to sliding the imessages options from off to on! If you flipped your Do Not Disturb button on it automatically shuts off imessages, totally lame! Let me know if that helped or even made a lick of sense, lol!

The whole Farrah thing, I’m beyond bothered and disturbed and I find her rationilization for doing it even more bothersome and disturbing. She should just stop and take a seat… I’m more than done with her!

  23. Jamie

For your phone- go into settings then “messages” and make sure the iMessage selection is turned on. If its not that then I don’t know! GTS! 😉

  24. Crystal D

    Settings > Messages > iMessage > On!

    =)

  25. Ellen A.

For the iPhone… go to settings – messages and there’s a toggle switch to turn on iMessage 🙂

I am still so sad that they are getting rid of google reader. I still don’t understand why they can’t just leave it up! Its so easy and simple to use and less than two months just isn’t enough time!

  26. Debbie

Kids need to get dirty, it also helps them to be more healthy all around. The germs they get expossed to helps their immune system get strong. I have three and they made it to teen level, they played in mud, dirt ect… so much better for them. Beside’s all kids need to get dirty that way they have more fun cleaning themselfs…lol

  27. Linda

I love my iMessages too- even though I know it’s really not that different. Not to state the obvious, but sometimes I miss things that other people know….so just in case you don’t know, if you go into Settings then Messages, there is a toggle to turn iMessage on or off. Maybe that got switched off?

  28. Jill

Did you watch the Teen Mom 2 reunion show? Kailyn, who I actually thought was one of the saner Teen Moms a la Maci, is starting to go a little cray.

  29. Jenny

So I read your whole Fancy thing and that is annoying. Just tell me what you’re going to do. As a complete other box topic. I cashed in points for Goodies and a free box but they billed me anyway. I emailed and a couple days later got a message saying I should of in fact not been charged so they were issuing a refund. Its not there yet but we’ll see.

My boys play in puddles too. They are boys they are supposed to be muddy. That’s how it works. 🙂 And worse case if the clothes don’t come clean then I’ll just have to go shopping for some more. Hmm I better send him out when it rains in a bit 😉

  30. Alexia561

I’m not happy with Fancy either. I signed up for the regular box and food box, but the system charged me for two orders each. CS cancelled the duplicates, but the other two orders seem to be in limbo. I’ve emailed them 3 times about this and they keep assuring me that the boxes have been shipped and that the warehouse is just behind in updating the tracking. Um, if you don’t have tracking, how do you know that MY orders have been shipped or not? I hate canned responses by lazy agents! 🙁

As for L getting dirty….hey, he’s a kid! He’s going to have wonderful memories of a fun childhood, while some of his classmates will grow up afraid of dirt. Ha!

I’m still bummed about saying goodbye to my Reader, and haven’t found a replacement yet. Think I’m still in denial.

  31. Susan B

My Iphone did the same with imessage. I could send them to everyone but my husband and it ticked me off. Spent over 2 hours with Apple trying to fix it. And that was resetting the whole phone and installing this and that. Still didn’t work. Only thing that I got to work was deleting all my messages and starting fresh. Might want to try that and see if it works if not then talk to someone at Apple and do the whole reset thing.

  32. Kali

If you go into Settings and then into Messages, at the very top it says iMessage and has a on/off switch. I’m not sure if you’ve gotten that far, but if you haven’t hopefully that will solve the problem :).

  33. Mrs. L

Maybe an upgrade to the phone turned off iMessaging? Go into settings, then messages and you should see a where you can turn iMessaging on or off. Hopefully that will fix it!

  34. Mary Q.

Gosh, I also get annoyed with how confusing some of the boxes are. I have this issue with Blissmobox (and today I am particularly upset with them because they repeated a major item in their boxes and won’t do anything about it!). I even wrote a blog post about it, haha. BAH

People are judging you for letting your kids have fun?? I mean, they really shouldn’t be butting in. And getting dirty builds L’s immune system…

In case nobody has tried to help with the iMessage issue yet, go to Settings>Messages and you should see an option to turn iMessage on or off. If it’s on already, then it might be your recipient’s settings. Instead of messaging their phone number, use their Apple ID email and that should default to iMessage.

I actually enjoy BlogLovin’. Never used Google Reader (or any reader for that matter) but I do browse the emails I get from BlogLovin’. Sorry, can’t help ya there!

  35. Alice

My friend had same issue last week with imessage Did you turn it off in your settings? – settings, then messages and then flip the little on off switch. I refuse to pay for texting plans, so everyone is warned to never press send to me if it’s green!

Ugh Farrah….and what about the name of the tape? I so do not want to know the content. She sure is an entrepreneur or something. I guess her restaurant dreams didn’t pan out?

  36. Sara

Trying to get used to bloglovi and its hard. Especially since from my phone I have to open the blog up in safari to comment. It’s annoying.
Also I agree, kids wash and so do their clothes. I also let Mackenzie get dirty and sometimes my mom freaks out. I’m like, she’s fine.

  37. Lindsey

For the iMessaging. Go to settings> messaging> make sure iMessaging is ‘on’.

Also, I’ve been reading on Feedly. Still confuses me sometimes, but I don’t like bloglovin…

  38. Lindsey

    Oops it’s messages (not messaging)

  39. Noelle B.

I’ve had pretty bad luck with Fancy’s customer service. I’ve emailed them continuously with no response and then they were completely not helpful when I did get a hold of them. If I wasn’t so in to the food box…I don’t know if I’d put up with it.

  40. Suzanne

Riding through puddles is fun! That was the best part of riding my bike after it rained when I was little. Besides, he will be ready for those mud runs when he gets older.

  41. Lauren

I completely agree with you about letting kids get dirty! They wash! You are right! I played in mud puddles and lived to tell the tale, so my son can too! If he wants to jump in every puddle he sees, then I’m all for it! And this gets me on my soap box of people trying to make kids grown up to dang fast these days! Seriously, you only get to be a kid for a short time, there doesn’t need to be this crazy push to make them be too adult like! My son is in kindergarten and is suppose to do all this crazy amounts of homework every night! Rediculous!!!! Ain’t nobody got time for that! For real tho, he’s a kid, he should get to enjoy it. I didn’t have homework in kindergarten?! At least not that I remember. Anyhow, YAY for mud puddles! 😉

  42. Lauren

Oh and, PS: I’ll be waiting for my prize for reading/following along with your Fancy Box dilemma! Ha! LOL.

  43. Mel

I know this was posted like 3 days ago (I’m so behind on my blog reading!) and 2 people have already suggested it, but I also use Feedly. I was super upset when Google announced they were shutting down Reader and immediately looked up alternatives and I think Feedly is the best, most similar option (I hated bloglovin). And I really didn’t have to do too much to get it set up – just sync it once with Google Reader (before it shuts down) and it’s good to go.
