The only box to appear in my mailbox today was the June Barkbox for Baxter and Buddy. L got the mail with me and when I told him what it was, he ran into the house yelling to Baxter and Buddy that they got a package. Of course they were excited because L was excited, but they really had no clue what was up.
Barkbox ships via DHL Global Mail (starts out as DHL and is delivered by the post office) and took about 5 days to get to me from the east coast. It could be better, but it also could be worse.
I’m still totally loving the new packaging BarkBox is using! The printed paper is so cute and is way better than those crazy crinkle shredded paper things lots of boxes use.
The June Barkbox was all about getting ready for summer and had a picnic theme. When I first glanced at the card I trued to brush off those little black specks. I didn’t get it at all. Umm, they’re ants and the card is a picnic blanker! Makes much more sense now. Here’s what the boys June Barkbox contained:
~Heartland Premium Butcher Shoppe Bone (~$6): I cannot find these for sale anywhere online, which drives me batty. These borns are “sourced” from cows born and bred in the U.S. (Omaha, NE to be exact) and are quite messy. I gave one each to Baxter and Buddy today and they’ve been fighting over ONE every since. I don’t know where the second one is, but Buddy is in the corner chewing on one and going crazy every time Baxter goes near him and tries to steal it.
~Bowser Beer ($3.33): This is a beef-based drink without alcohol or carbonation. It can be used as an addition to water, as a topper for dry food or over crushed ice. We just poured it in their water bowl and let them taste it. Buddy LOVED it! Baxter was indifferent. But Buddy was all over Bowser Beer.
~Puppy Cake Puptato Chips ($4.99): These are dogs alternative to potato chips. They kind of smell like an blend of wood chips and sweet potatoes. Baxter and Buddy seemed to enjoy them though.
~Whole Life Tail Mix ($4.95): These are some fancy dog treats. They have zero fillers and are made from quality meat in the USA. I am going to save these for my brother’s dogs who will appreciate them much more than Baxter and Buddy (they don’t love hard treats).
~Dale Edgar Calm K9 ($7.48): These wafers are suppose to soothe frightened nerves during firework season. The furries HATE fireworks and as luck would have it, they happen here like every weekend. SO annoying. They sampled the treats earlier and didn’t seem calmer, but then again, they weren’t any crazier than they have been lately either. I’ll for sure test these out in the next few weeks.
All totaled, the June Barkbox has an estimated value of $26.75. As always, it was more than the monthly cost of the box (which again is $18/month if you subscribe for 6 months or more).
Do you subscribe to Barkbox? What’d you think of this month’s box? If you want to subscribe or learn more, click here. And, as always, you can use the code “RAMBLING10″ to save $10 off your first Barkbox!
That doggy beer cracks me up for some reason. As soon as I opened Bark Box I put that beer in the fridge for my dog (Barry) to have tonight with dinner! Lol.
Your boys are too cute! And maybe Baxter was busy sleeping off his hangover from the Bowser Beer so that’s why he couldn’t make the photo shoot? I knew Buddy was a party animal! *L*
I ordered a BarkBox this month for the dog I am sitting but never received a shipping notice. Is that normal? I have 4 delivery slips from packages waiting to be picked up at the post office so I’m hoping one of them is for the pooch. She’s bored.
@Jill @ Cdn Box Addict: I always get a shipment notice. If you ordered after 6/10, you’ll get your box next month. If it’s not waiting for you at the post office and you ordered before 6/10, write to customer service. 🙂
We gave up on BarkBox a few months ago. we just kept getting things that weren’t new to us and then there was a super poor box for the big dogs. Just picked up a subscription for a new dog box and the first one had almost all new to us products. But I love trying new dog stuff!
My dogs would not eat the sweet potato chips. They both spit them out then crushed them into the outside rug with their feet. My mom is taking them to her little dog. Maybe little dogs have a sweet tooth?
Hey! I’ve been wanting to try this box for my two pugs. I assume you chose the small breed box? They are at the high end of small, and low end of medium so I don’t know which one to choose! I’m new to this subscription box thing, but goodness gracious is it addicting! Haha!!!! Thanks for sharing the reviews. That’s helped me decide which boxes to try out!
I just got my first BarkBox this month — I’m very pleased with the quality and assortment. Do you get two boxes per month? I ordered the large, thinking it would be enough for my two large dogs to share… but I’m sure only one Heartland bone to share will be an issue. The Whole Life freeze-dried burger patties can be soaked in water to soften them up — Baxter and Buddy may like them better that way! Thanks for the review, Jennifer!
The only difference with the “large” box and your box was the size of the bone — we had an 8 inch marrow-filled bone in ours. 🙂 I’m kind of disappointed there was no toy included…
I have found this company to be horrific to deal with. I was given a coupon code for a free box when I adopted a dog at a local adoption event. No one adopting was told that we had to commit to a long term agreement. Needless to say, we got our “free” box, and then our credit card started getting charged!
Customer service was horrible! No supervisor able to talk to me for 7 days! They are not able to show me the email in which I agreed to this – I got no confirmation email nor any of when boxes were being sent (which the website states that they do!).
To add insult to injury, I found the boxes unimpressive.
@kate:
I signed up a 3-month subscription via a deal on Groupon. I had to contact customer support because I didn’t receive a shipping notification, and an agent responded with a semi-cheesy (I love me some cheese here in WI) response about when I should expect it to show up. It turned up as expected, and I decided I’d close the loop with the agent. Again, I got a response within 24 hours that she was happy everything was handled and that my pup enjoyed the box. My first box was pretty good (two bags of fancy treats, a ‘busy bone’, a flexible water bowl, a tiny cup of “dog slushie” stuff, and some dog-jerky).
With ALL subscription boxes (birchbox, ipsy, barkbox, klutchklub to name a few), they’ll auto-renew. When I sign up for a new one, I immediately add a reminder to the calender on my smart phone for when I definitely need to cancel by to avoid getting charged again.
The June Barkbox was our first one, and I was a little disappointed as I really wanted a new toy item for our dog, but the bone was the featured item instead (and our doggie doesn’t like bones). The July box never arrived after it was shipped late. We were in the middle of moving, but I had updated our address prior to the move and way in advance. Turns out that I needed to change my address in two places: once on the home screen under “billing” tab and again after clicking subscription and scrolling down two to three pages to the bottom (which I hadn’t noticed). When I contacted them, I was, it appears, at fault for assuming changing my address once was enough. They wanted to charge me a $10 fee to resend the box, and it has taken two+ days between each email to get a reply. I’m canceling our subscription and glad we only signed up for a 3 month.
We recieved our first bark box yesterday and our 7 year old chocolate lab loves everything in it. He loves the bone the best but today we realized a horrific sight with him havin droopy eyes and sort of blood shot. He rested from the bone and was fine. Later he was laying next to me chewing it then stoppe. I rubbed his head and he had trouble opening his eyes. We threw the bone away and he is already seeing improvement. Please keep and eye on your dog with these and please comment to tell me if your dog had experienced anything like this.
Our dog ate one of the se hambones this week. He vomited and had diarrhea the next 48 hours and had to spend a day at the vet. He couldn’t lift his head and had zero energy.
