Kid Stash
June Kid Stash

Kid Stash is a monthly subscription box for kids ages 3-7 packed full of educational items, such as a book, a craft and additional fun items. Each Kid Stash has a theme which relates to an occupation that kids can learn about. June was their first ever box and I couldn’t wait to check it out.

Kid Stash
The Box

Kid Stash ships via USPS Priority Mail and arrived fairly quickly. It was one of the six boxes I received yesterday and L was quite pleased when I told him that it was a box just for him! L loved getting mail. Like mother like son.

First Look

I loved what I saw from the first look and was excited to see what else the box contained! L and I had never done a craft like this one, so we were totally off to a good start.

The Information Card

The June Kid Stash theme / occupation is “Entomologist”.  I don’t mind telling you I didn’t even know that the study of insects was called Entomology!  You learn something new every day that’s for sure.  This month we are learning about insects and how they help us grow delicious fruits and vegetables and beautiful flowers.  Here’s what the box included:

~The Leaf Men by William Joyce ($7.19):The Leaf Men is an adorable book about brave bugs who go off to save the garden and have to fight off the Evil Spider Queen.  We have a garden at the house and L is all into it.  Only instead of the Evil Spider Queen, we have Buddy (our dog) who likes to get in there and cause trouble.

~Artzooka Clothespin Wings ($9.99): I cannot explain why, but we have never done any projects with clothespins.  At least not here at the house.  I am sure that L has done some at school, but we never have.  I am saving these for a rainy day project.  Rainy summer days and crafts are a perfect mix.

~Primary Science Bug Jar($5.99): OMG this is perfect. I am totally bringing this up-north over the 4th of July.  There are lots of good bugs up there (we only have suburbs bugs) to inspect and I am guessing that L and his cousin will be good at catching tons of bugs.  The wings on this open and there is a magnifying glass lid so you see all the details on your capture.  I NEED to remember not to let them keep their bugs in this for too long though.  We’ve lost a few bugs by leaving them in containers….

~Learning Resources Giant Inflatable Insect ($9.99):  I had to stop the unboxing in order to blow up this giant bee. And then B had to take it and blow up the rest because I was about to pass out.  I can’t even blow out candles on a cake!  L LOVES this bee and enjoys making it attack WB (who thinks it’s sooo funny).  I wouldn’t mind getting the other bugs from this collection.  Who doesn’t want huge inflatable bugs in their house?

All totaled the June Kid Stash had a value of $33.16 (I used online prices not MSRP), which is over the $27.99 monthly cost of the box!  Plus, I love that you get to learn about a new occupation every month.  It’s a lesson plan plus fun.

I don’t have kids, but this is a great idea! Though the giant bug would freak me out…I’m not a fan of bugs really. haha

I like your disclosures. They make me smile. 🙂

However I do not want a house full of inflatable bugs. I’m so not a bug fan but this box sounds awesome.

When you say “up-north” do you mean Canada or is there an actual town where you live called “up-north?” I am sure this must be a really dumb question.

    1. Rebecca

@Ace: I think that means North of where she lives…like if you lived in Southern Minnesota and went to Northern Minnesota you would be going “up north”…I’m not sure where Jennifer lives but this seems to be a Midwest (USA) phenomenon, I heard it many times when I was growing up there. Of course, it COULD also mean Canada but most times I think they would just say Canada since it is a different country and you need a passport now, so it’s not as simple.

Awesome! I want the bug too!

Love your subscription box reviews. Do you know if this company is still up and running? Their website appears to be at bare minimum and your review had me interested.
