Taste Trunk is a brand new monthly subscription box offering 5-10 4-6 products, discount coupons, backgrounds on the companies and amazing recipe ideas from one of four themes, including Gourmet, BBQ, Healthy and Sweet. Brands and items are hand selected and trunks are only $34.99/month ($29 + $5.99 shipping) $35/month. I opted for the BBQ Trunk because B loves to grill. I really wanted the Sweets Trunk, but figured I wouldn’t be able to enjoy most of it right now because of the Challenge anyway!
Taste Trunk ships via USPS Priority Mail and took two days to get to me (in MI) from CA. I was surprised and excited when it appeared in my mailbox yesterday!
The Taste Trunk website shows some sample boxes, but I’ve never actually seen a Taste Trunk review. I was hoping that the sample boxes were close to what we’d get and it looked like they were!
Taste Trunk has super cute information cards and not only do they tell you a little about each of the products in the trunk, they also give you a recipe for them them. B was totally studying them to see what we could make first. Here’s what our trunk included:
~Humbolt Hot Sauce (Habanera & Mango) ($5.25): I’m not a huge fan of hot sauce, however, I think in the right recipe I can do for this. The recipe that came with this is for Jamiacian Patties, but I am going to do a little more research and see what else I can up come with. Does anyone have any ideas?
~Community Spice Company barbi Q Spice Rub ($3): This could not have come at a better time and is exactly what I was hoping for in the box. New spices and seasonings to give B and I some different flavors during the Challenge! This will be used tonight!
~Saucy Mama Smoky Garlic Mustard ($5): I have mixed feelings about mustard. I would certainly never just put it in a sandwich or use it as a dip, but I do think I like it when B mixes it in recipes and never ever tells me about it. I am certain that this is exactly what’s going to happen with this!
~Miners Mix Maynard’s Memphis BBQ Rub ($7.49): B and I have tried a lot of seasoning mixes and rubs, but never this one! There’s enough for tons and tons of servings, so this is going to get us through the summer and beyond! I think B pretty much grills every night in the summer, so this is a perfect edition!
~Bourbon Smoked Sea Salt ($9): B and I got the Bourbon Smoked Pepper from this brand in our May Mantry and it’s amazing, so I have even higher hopes for this! In the past few months we’ve (well B) been all over using sea salts for meats and chickens. It makes amazing things even better! B was super excited to see this as he’s running out of one of his favorite salts!
~aFire Northern White Cedar Mini Grilling Planks ($12.99): Grilling planks are a new favorite of ours around here and B has been experimenting with them whenever he can. The recipe for this is a Salmon Filet on Wood Planks and we will be using it for sure. One thing about wood planks is that you need to soak them in water for a few hours prior to use. This might be common knowledge, but I wasn’t aware so I wanted to share!
All totaled I came up with a value of $42.73 for the June BBQ Taste Trunk! Since Trunks are only $34.99/month ($29 + $5.99 shipping) $35/month that’s a great deal! I was very pleased with this trunk since B and I can use every item in it right now and don’t need to wait for the Challenge to be over! I’ve been a tad worried about receiving food boxes, but this one was perfect!

One thing to note that I didn’t see in most blog posts about this box, though… there’s a 5.99 shipping fee that you only see when you get near the end of the subscription process.
