The Little Book Club
May The Little Book Club

My May The Little Book Club box arrived today and I think it’s the last of the May boxes to trickle in.  There was a big shipping mess this month and notifications got sent out a week or so before the boxes actually went out.  The Little Book Club offered a $5 credit to be applied to the next month as an apology.  I actually need to e-mail them back about accepting that.  Oops.

The Box

I’ve mentioned it before, but The Little Book Club ships via USPS Media Mail.  If you aren’t familiar, Media Mail is cheaper and slower and is for, well, media (books, periodicals, etc.).  They asked on Facebook this month if people would rather pay more for shipping and get the boxes faster or if we’d want to stick with the slower, less expensive Media Mail.  I picked the slower, cheaper Media Mail, but I did say that I wished they shipped earlier in the month.

First Look

I subscribe to The Little Book Club for WB (not L) because I want to make sure both boys can enjoy the books.   And if I subscribe for a while, I don’t want to end up with repeats!

The Information Card

Our The Little Book Club theme is this month was “Cars and Trucks”, which is perfect for my boys.  And once again, we do not own any of these books.  I am beginning to realize that my library of kids books is not as vast as I once thought it was!  Also, I don’t know why my information card picture isn’t centered, but it’s driving me bananas.

~“Sheep in a Jeep” by Nancy E. Shaw ($6.29):Sheep in a Jeep is a silly story about, well, sheep in a Jeep!  L and I read it at bedtime tonight and he loved it.  I asked L if he’d ever read this at school and he said no, which I was surprised by.  It’s a perfect circle time book.  Maybe he was absent that day?

Sheep in a Jeep

~“Freight Train” by Donald Crews ($13.10): We’ve checked this book out from the library in the past and L loves it.  Like he doesn’t just love it, he LOVES it.  I mean, it’s got a train. What’s not to love?  I didn’t show it to him yet because I knew we’d have to read it right away and I wanted to read the other books first.  I’m so bad ;).

Freight Train

~“Red Truck” by Kersten Hamilton ($11.93):  I’ve never seen this book before (seriously, where have I been?), but it’s adorable.  It kind of reminds me of the Little Engine That Could, but with a truck in the snow. Super cute!

Red Truck

All totaled I came up with a value of $31.32 for the May “Cars and Trucks” box from The Little Book Club, which is more than the $24.95 cost so of course I am happy.  And, as always, I used Amazon prices because that’s where I usually get my books from.  Even with the shipping issues (I do hope they begin shipping earlier in the month though), I love this subscription and plan on keeping it (*).

(*) Nope, there are no referral or affiliate links in here and I didn’t get this box free.  I just like kids books.  A lot.
