B and I are mixing it up with our food boxes (*) and decided to get Plated again this week. We only wanted a few meals and the Tuesday delivery worked best for us this week, so Plated it was.

The Box

Plated ships via FedEx and delivers weekly on Tuesdays. As always you can skip weeks, get serving sizes anywhere from 2 plates – 6 plates per meal (i.e. 2 servings to 2 servings) and select from five different meal options each week. The only real “rule” is that you have to get at least 4 plates (i.e. 4 servings). It can be one meal with 4 plates or two meals with 2 plates. No matter.

First Look

Unlike with my last Plated delivery, I left this one on my porch for a few hours instead of brining it in the house right away. I was busy, plus, I wanted to verify that the meat and product really did stay cold, even it the summer heat. And I am pleased to report that it indeed does stay fresh! I finally dragged the box inside around dinnertime and like Plated says as long as you can transfer it to the refrigerator by that evening, it’s fine. B wasn’t too excited about my little experiment and was all, the food might go bad! I was like, umm, that’s the point, to find out if it does or not. But rest assured, everything stayed fresh.

Meal #1 Tilapia Fish Tacos with Corn-Salsa and Avocado: I knew right away when I saw this meal that it was for me. I couldn’t add those plates to my cart fast enough last week. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint. It was so so so good.  Fish tacos are something we’ve never made before, but I know this meal with be recreated many times in the future.  I’ve mentioned it before but B saves all the recipes and remake the ones we love – which oddly happens to be all of them.  Oh and as for the Skinny Girl in the picture,   I find that the Skinnymini bottles are stronger than the big bottle.  Anyone else notice this?

Meal #2 Roasted Chicken with Fingerling Potatoes and Broccoli: For our other meal, we opted for the roasted chicken.  We eat chicken all the time, but we certainly never get this fancy. While I didn’t enjoy it as much as the tacos (how could I – those were AMAZING), this was great and I know we will make it again. The lemon added a ton of flavor and actual white potatoes were quite the treat ;).

What do you think of Plated?  Did you get a box this week?  If you are interested in giving it a try or want to learn more, click here to try two free plates (new customers only)!  Basically you’ll get 4 plates for the price of 2 ($30)!!  That’s 4 meals/plates for $30, which is less than $8/plate.  It’s like going out for a fine meal without ever leaving your house.   If you order before this Monday (noon – EST) you’ll get a box on Tuesday, otherwise your first box will come the week after.

Disclosure: This post contains referral links! If you use my link you’ll get 2 free plates and so will I. It’s a win-win!
(*) Everyone asks which box I like better and I don’t have a favorite. I have tried Blue Apron, Hello Fresh and Plated and they are all amazing. I think it comes down to what day works best for you to get your box delivered (Plated – Tuesday, Hello Fresh & Blue Apron – Thursday) and which menu you prefer that week. We don’t get all the boxes every week (B would like that though), instead we mix then up and get what works best for us.
