I’m linking up with Ashley and Neely today for another Sunday Social. Lately the tops have been repeats from last year at this time, but answers can change during the year so I am linking-up again!
1. If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Hmm, one thing for the rest of my life? I’m going with burritos. They combine many of my loves (sour cream and guacamole) and I don’t think I would ever get bored with them. Pasta would come in a close second. Never with cream sauce though. Has to be red sauce. Has to.
2. What’s your guilty pleasure/comfort food?
Ice cream / frozen yogurt! And listen, I don’t even need to be comforted to wanted to eat it. I just flat out love it. Any flavor, any brand, I love it all. Is there anyone who doesn’t like ice cream? Because I’m not sure we could be friends? Or wait, maybe we’d be besties because I’d never have to worry about you wanting the last scoop!
3. What’s the weirdest/craziest thing you’ve ever eaten?
Turtle soup (quite good actually), quail (is that even weird?), alligator and a bunch of other things you don’t see on the menu at TGIFridays. And all of it is way better than I ever expected it to be. I really haven’t eaten anything super totally out there like a cows eye or anything, but if I were on Survivor and trying to win a million dollars, I could do it.
4. What foods do you avoid at all costs?
Mustard. Really that’s the only thing that I will OMGNOTEAT. I’m pretty okay with like every thing else. But mustard? No thank you. Oh wait, I looked back at my old Sunday Social and realized I missed a few things. Cole Slaw, Cottage Cheese and Sauerkraut are also on my list of nasty foods. I think it’s the texture that I hate.
5. What meal reminds you of your childhood?
Chicken pot pie. My mom is not much of a cook (she will not be offended by this at all, trust me), but she can make a mean pot pie. From what I understand it’s my Grandma’s (my Dad’s mom) old recipe and involves a pile of butter. And it’s amazing.
6. Share one of your favorite recipes and the story behind it.
I have no recipes of my own! My aunt makes some TDF chocolate chip cookies, but I am following in the footsteps of my mom. I never cook. Ever. L and I bake, but cooking is not for me. Luckily B loves it, so we are just fine.
Here’s my Aunt’s chocolate chip cookie recipe if you ever want to make the most delicious cookies ever:
Aunt Karen’s Cookies:
1 cup butter (let butter soften a few hours before starting the cookies. Do not soften in the microwave).
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 cups oatmeal
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
12oz. chocolate chips
Directions: Cream together softened butter, sugar and brown sugar. Add in eggs and vanilla. Blend in blender 2 1/2 cups oatmeal (measure first and then blend until powdery). Mix dry ingredients (flour, blended oatmeal, salt, baking soda, and baking powder) together. Slowly add dry ingredients to the butter / sugar mixture. Add chocolate chips. Drop golf ball sized cookies onto ungreased cookie sheet & bake for 8 1/2 minutes @ 375 degrees. The cookies will not look cooked. Let cook on the sheet for a few minutes before removing.
A few tips:
-Do not use a mixer (hand or tabletop). The cookies turn out way better when you mix by hand.
-Do not substitute the butter with margarine.
-Take cookies out after 8 1/2 minutes. Do not be scared they look raw.
funny that I have also had turtle soup AND alligator. The turtle soup was pretty good, no lie! I am also a pretty adventurous eater and will try everything at least once (for the most part…)
I agree with everything you said about the dislike food i hate those too, but Mustard! I love that stuff I can’t see why anyone would hate that! But oh we’ll lol. It is my favorite condiments next to Hot Sauce! Yum
All four things you avoid are also 4 things I can’t stand, but I’m super picky eater to begin with so I avoid a lot of food.
Your Aunt Karen’s cookie recipe is Mrs. Giles’s chocolate cookie recipe. It’s the one I use also. Too funny!!
Cheers,
Shauna
Sorry! That was supposed to say Mrs. Field’s cookie recipe. Stupid autocorrect!

5. Bacon
6. Bacon. Fry some bacon in a pan. Simple. When I was a kid and I’d visit my Grandparents all I would eat for breakfast was bacon. But…I would take the cooked bacon, separate the fat part from the meat part. Each would have it’s own side of the plate. I would then eat the meat part first. And then I would eat the fat part. At least now that I’ve grown I don’t discriminate between the two parts, I eat them together.
