It’s time for another edition of Tuesday Troubles. I’ve said it before, but this should be named “things i’m annoyed / confused / want to complain about”, however I couldn’t figure out how to make any of those into a snappy title, so Tuesday Troubles it is. And yes, I do realize that these aren’t true “troubles”. I know that many of these for sure could be defined as first world problems!
~In the past few weeks, we’ve been finding these huge flies everywhere. I believe they are “crane flies” and I don’t know where they are coming from, but I am not liking them. At all. They are all over my windows and screens and in the garage and it reminds me of growing up near the water during “fish fly” season. You can’t escape them. I fear one is going to sneak in my house when I am sleeping and land on my face. Ugh. The thought.
~It’s supposed to be in the mid-90’s here today. Really? Come on. It’s supposed to be warm today and tomorrow and then it’s going to drop, umm, 30 degrees by the end of the week. If I wasn’t sick already, I would be by then. I’m over summer. And no, there is no need to remind me of this statement when I am complaining about how cold it is this winter and wishing it were summer.
~So yesterday after dropping L off at school, WB and I went to Target and then to Kroger. Kroger had no less then two dozen employees working, however, the majority of them appeared to be in front of me in line at Starbucks. No biggie – we all need our fix – on the clock or not. I’m even okay when they all start chit chatting. I just want that salted caramel frap. WB, was not as okay with this and finally after 15 minutes (and only 2 employees/customers served) the manager let us go in front of him. Cool. So we shop. At the checkouts, there are a ton of employees around the checkouts, however, only two are open. And they have huge lines. And again, although there are a million employees around, I bag my own groceries. Again, NOT a big deal, I do it all the time, but not when everyone is just standing around and talking to each other! GRRR! Lesson learned. No Kroger before 9am. It’s got to just be a bad time at the store because usually they are fabulous there!
~I finally booked out Vegas flights yesterday and wanted to use a Delta voucher B had. Only it had expired and Delta can’t do anything about it. Although it was my fault for not redeeming it earlier, I didn’t need it then! I need it NOW. The expiration of gift cards is equally annoying, but Michigan has a law that requires that you get 5 years to use them so if I don’t use it within 5 years, it’s my fault. Is it like his everywhere? Do your gif cards expire?
~And in my most insane “trouble” of the week (maybe ever), my PopSugar Fall Style Must Have Box tracking hasn’t updated in almost a week. I am totally hoping it just appears in my mailbox today / tomorrow / Thursday and isn’t really just sitting in CA. I think it’s a FedEx glitch, but when you are stalking your tracking like crazy, it’s not fun when it doesn’t update!
That’s it from here for now! What’s troubling you today?
It’s supposed to be in the 90’s here tomorrow too. And then be in the 70’s the next day. Ridiculous.
I think I Mass you can use your gift cards forever.
I about had a meltdown last night when the tracking code for my August glossybox went from working to the site claiming it was an invalid number.
Mine either!!! Track, fall box!!!
Oh yay, I am so glad that I am not the only one who’s tracking hasn’t updated since Fedex/PopSugar initiated the shipment. It still shows that it was shipped on the 4th and nothing since… I was about to bombard PS with some heavily worded e-mails… I will give it another couple of days before I go all crazy on them, lol!
Im not sure that my state has that, some of my gift cards say that they never expire.
A 5-year expiration period was part of the 2009 Credit Card Accountability law IIRC. A majority of the gift cards I’ve purchased in the last few years never expire, which I think companies started doing a few years ago. There are also a number of states which consider gift card balances not used within 2 years to be unclaimed property and the unused value can be seized by that state. I’ve never met one person who this has happened to so while they states can do it, hopefully they are not.
That’s what we call a Mosquito Hawk. I live in the deep south, where we have billions and billions of mosquitoes. Whenever I find a Mosquito Hawk in the house (which is rare), I rescue it. If it is an enemy of the mosquito, it is a friend of mine!
A positive note about those giant flies you’re finding–they eat mosquitoes. So, while I also hate finding them, I never kill them since I hate mosquitoes even more.
We always have those big flies in the house and as long as I have known them since i was a kid they have always been known as mosquito eaters. So they actually do good! They don’t bother me for that reason.
And, CA has a law that gift cards can NEVER expire! 🙂 but after a certain time they can deduct fees from them to maintain the balance if unused (but I’ve never had any do that)
Ugh I know!!! My Popsugar must have box is chillin in Gilroy, CA. I’m so excited to see if we are getting any variations to the spoiler box!!
We call them ‘Mayflies’ where I live. When I was about 3 or 4 I would run screaming from them because my older brother told me they were giant mosquitoes that would carry me off. Once I learnt they are harmless they stopped bothering me.
Washington State has a no expiration rule on gift cards. Good thing too. Especially since they are essentially cash and already paid for!
Its supposed to be close to 90 in Seattle too. This never happens in Sept. But I know it will feel cooler than if it were July.
I’m done with summer too and down here we can have 90s well into Oct but it is really muggy here this week and then this weekend the highs will be in the 70s. I love the 70s. I can wear jeans and a t-shirt and be oh so comfy.
Sorry to hear you’re sick. I hope you feel better soon! And yes, it’s going to be in the mid 90’s where we are headed this weekend.
As folks have pointed out, in California there is a law that gift cards never expire. I have first hand knowledge of this because I had a “gift certificate” (paper) for Nordstroms that I got in, wait for it, 1995! They had to call customer service to come down with a “gift card” that they could run through the machine since paper gift certificates haven’t been available in ages and the computer wouldn’t take it. They were taking photos of it because none of these girls had every seen a paper one (Nordstroms used to do awesome gold embossed certificates).
We have fuzzy aphids here & they are very annoying! I am not sure if they bite or not but I am afraid to find out!
The GC expiration thing is great, over here the expiration is usually set my the store and it tends to be 12 months. When Rich left his old company he was given ?100 GC for a really nice, spendy restaurant near our house. Of course I put it in a ‘safe place’ and even though I looked every where I could to find it, we never did until we moved last month. Which, of course, was about a year AFTER the card had expired. So it would have been nice to have that MI law in place here!
We have those bugs in Maryland and Virgina. We call them mosquito eaters. They are harmless and eat moquitos! Though I do not like them in my house at all! haha!
Your caption on that bug pic made me spit out my water! Ha!
My ipsy Bag tracking did the same thing. No shipping notification until a week after it shipped, then no updates for a week then suddenly it’s here. I know they ship via camel train and all, but at least tell me WHERE my bag is!
Cheers,
Shauna
