Appleseed Lane, who kindly sent L and I this box to review, is focused on developing a love of learning among kids in preschool and elementary school. They deliver exciting and educational boxes each month filled with all of the materials you need for 3 to 4 science or math projects. Each month’s box has a unique theme and are designed for kids ages 4-10 years old.
Appleseed Lane ships via USPS Ground. My first box got delivered to someone else in error, but I my second one arrived quite quickly. And I suspect whoever ended up with my first box is having a great time with these projects.
I’d seen a few reviews on Appleseed Lane and that made me even more anxious to get my box. I assumed I’d get the same box everyone else did in October, but I didn’t want to tell L about it until it came – just in case. As soon as I opened it I knew I’d gotten the same box and couldn’t wait to do the projects!
The instructions were on the back of the main Appleseed Lane card and were super easy t follow. I brought the box up-north with us over the weekend because I knew that L and G (his bestie / cousin up-north) would love working on it. G is 11, so on the higher end of the age range, but he’s always up for a craft, plus, he’s old enough to help L out with things.
Project #1: Monster Slime
The first project was monster slime. The boys did this one all on their own and didn’t need any help at all. And I think this was their favorite one of the bunch. While G did the work to make the slime, L threw the gooey eyeball that goes in the slime and made it stick to the window. Over and over again. And then once the slime was done they got the eye all mixed up in that and it loved that too. A perfect (and easy) Halloween craft!
~Project #2: Slime Container:
You gotta store your slime somewhere and the kit included a cute little container to make / decorate that you can store it in. My mom and I did most of this because by this time both boys were now throwing the slime and the eyeball against the window. You can do this kind of stuff up-north, but not at home ;). That’s why L loves up-north so much!
Project #3 – Critter Soap
Project #3 was my favorite one of the bunch. It was super easy and involved only melting soap in the microwave and pouring it into the mold with a bug in it. L used this in the bathtub yesterday and while there isn’t much soap left, I also don’t think he’s ever been this clean. He loved it.
Project #4: Glowing Ghost
The final project was my glowing ghost and is a balloon with a glow stick inside. WB wanted to get his hands on this balloon so badly. Babies love balloons. Our glow stick was already cracked (I have have done this when I opened the box), but we had some glow sticks up-north so it was no big deal. Super easy, super cool.
Appleseed Lane also includes a Badge Chart to track what boxes you have finished. They also include a little book called “seedings” that has lots of science information presented in a fun easy to read way.
