I was SO excited when I got the shipping notification for my Fancy Food Box a few days ago. It’s one of the boxes I look most forward to every month and I love to see what they do with it. Fancy Food Box (which used to be Samplrs) includes five or more food products – anything from cookies and chocolates to teas and sauces – along with a selection of tasty recipes and pairing suggestions for $47.95/month ($39 + $7.95/shipping).

The Box

Fancy Food Box, like all the other Fancy Boxes, ships via FedEx. I know people aren’t always happy with the price of Fancy Boxes, but I after having slow shipping on lots of other boxes, I have come to appreciate their use of FedEx. If it happens to cost a little more, so be it.

The box was light this month, but looked great!  I was so so so excited about one item that I saw!  Eeeek!

The Information Cards

Just like with the Coco Rocha Box, the October Fancy Food Box had a special information card.  It said “This month’s Fancy Food Box provides all the tools and sweets you need to start celebrating Halloween a little early.  Enjoy!  Indulge!”.  I love the little theme and hope that this continues!

~Pumpkin Meister Carving Kit ($24.99):  This is the item I am most excited about.  A fancy pumpkin carving set!  This is something I would totally stare at while shopping at like Sur La Table or something, but wouldn’t be able to justify buying.  I always think pumpkin carving is going to be SO fun and it’s always much more work than I think it’s going to be.  But this year I’m feeling like it really will be fun!  Oh, and when do you carve your pumpkins?  Any tips on keeping them to stay longer after carving?

~Tumbador Milk Chocolate Animal Crackers ($10): Chocolate covered animal crackers??  Yes please! Such a special treat and I plan to share some with L and the rest are going to be all mine.

~Roni-Sue X Fancy Lollipops Assortment ($8): I tested one of these out while writing this review and I think I picked an apple flavor?  That’s what it said, but I didn’t taste any apple?  It kind of tasted spicy.  Not bad.  Just a little spicy!

~Popsations Dark Chocolate Caramel Drizzle Popcorn ($9): I tried this real quick and it’s delicious! I am looking forward to a movie night with B this Saturday and a bowl of popcorn.  I think I am going to mix this with regular popcorn though so it lasts longer!

~Wondermade Pumpkin Pie Marshmallows ($9): We have actually tried this brand before (a different flavor came in Mantry once) and they are very good and very fun! I am planning to make some Halloween type s’mores with these!  L is going to love it!

All totaled I came up with a value of $60.99 for the October Fancy Food Box. Not the most “valuable” box to date, but one of the most fun!  Did you get a Fancy Food Box this month? What’d you think? I think their food boxes are probably their most consistent box and I always enjoy them. I’d love them a bit more though if they were $10 less a month!

If you are thinking of ordering this or ANY of the Fancy Boxes, click here and get on it! Fancy Boxes are $39 + $7.95 shipping, but you can always use the coupon code “FOLLOWUP10″ to save 10% on any Fancy.com, order, including subscription boxes.  If you can’t find the Fancy Box you are looking for, I suggest just doing search for “Fancy Box“. It’s much easier than trying to navigate their site.

Your fancy food box always comes the day before mine. Needless to say, I have been stalking your blog today 🙂 I just have to know!!!! I do love the theme and hope they continue with themed boxes.

I have been dying to try those marshmallows they have some fun flavors, like beer and pretzel!

For your pumpkin carving adventure: Make sure you cut the hole in the bottom of the pumpkin, not the top. This will make it safer for the candle as it will be less likely to tip over and burn and it gives you more space for carving your design. Martha Stewart’s website always has creative designs and you can also google designs, print them out in black and white to use as a stencil while you carve. I’ve always gotten the best designs this way!

If you coat the inside and cut edges of your pumpkin in Vaseline, it will last a lot longer. I’ve heard that vegetable oil works too, but I haven’t tried that.

I got the box yesterday and was thrilled! I think I may try carving pumpkins this year too. I’m really easily pleased when it comes to food/treats though. And everything looks so tasty!

To keep your pumpkins longer you can add the little packets of preservatives, that come in shoe boxes and purses sometimes, into the bottom. Those things you throw away right away… I don’t know how flammable they are so you may want to opt for flameless candles if you go this route. Did you perhaps get one of the chili/lime lollipops?

Annnd somehow I saw a picture of pumpkin marshmallows and now have $20 worth of marshmallows being shipped to me… I need to get a new debit card so I don’t have the number memorized anymore! It’s taking all my self control not to get one of those carving kits too…

I read that putting silica gel balls (they come inside those little packets in shoes and whatnot) in the bottom helps pumpkins last longer, but I haven’t had a chance to try it yet. Good luck!

This is random, but I think I’m going to sign up for the Fancy Food box hoping to get the December box… When do you all think I need to sign up if I just want to try it out in Dec? Sometime after Nov 1 but before Dec 1????
