In an effort to try out some new boxes, I subscribed to PijonBox when they were on one of the deal sites a while back. PijonBox is a monthly subscription box geared towards college students. Each PijonBox includes 5-6 products selected just for college students (subscriptions are customized by male and female) and contain a value of $30-$50 per box.
PijonBox ships via FedEx Smart Post and arrived in record time. I believe it took less than a week? They typically ship on the 5th of the month I believe, however, due to the huge response to their recent deal, they shipped a little later this month. They sent out an e-mail alerting subscribers of the delay, which I appreciated.
I couldn’t believe how big the box was when it arrived and wanted to know what in the world was in that huge box! It turns out it was a lot of packaging materials. I don’t know if they ship using the same size box every month and sometimes the products they include are bigger? That would make sense. I did have to dig through this box to make sure I didn’t miss anything though. WB “helped”, which he thought was quite fun ;).
The October PijonBox is the “Late Night Studies & Distractions” box. I don’t do any studying at night, but I do stay up way too late (so much for my new plan of going to bed early), so this theme was great for me.
The information card also noted that PijonBox has partnered with Project Night Night (which looks to be a very cool organization) to provide comfort items and childhood essentials to homeless children around the United States. You can read more about that here.
Here is what the October 2013 PijonBox (Women’s Edition) included:
~Awake Caffeinated Chocolate (~$3): Caffeinated chocolate? Don’t mind if I do. I had a “bite” which contains the caffeine equivalent of a half a cup of coffee. The chocolate was much better than I expected it to be and I did find myself with some unexpected energy.
~Awesome Bars ($5): I am saving these awesome bars for B for school because he I know some nights he comes home from school starving. I’ll throw these, which are suppose to be packed with all natural energy, in his backpack for him.
~Rooted Beauty Raspberry-Citrus Invigorating Facial Wipes ($6.99): I have never heard of Rooted Beauty, but these are a welcome addition and Rooted Beauty looks like a great company. The wipes smell great and made my skin feel nice. And each Rooted Beauty products helps a woman escape from extreme poverty and trafficking. Funds from product sales are used for vocational training and recovery counseling. You can read a little about each woman who is currently being supported on the company’s site along with some history and what the funds will be used for.
~Metropolis Lavender & Spearmint ; Lime & Spearmint Lip Creams ($13.98): This is a vegan lip creme and is made with ingredients derived from plant and fruit. I already have the lime one in my office with me and it went nice and smooth. WB has a new addiction to lip balm, so I need to remember to keep his up high so he’s not smearing it all over himself ;).
~Baggu Reusable Bag ($9): Ohh, I love Baggu bags and I am always seem to be misplacing them. This is going in my car for those times I need a bag, but have forgotten one. Chances are I will use this today ;).
The box also included a $10 coupon code to thredUP for new customers, along with a discount card for 4 free hours of study help from InstaEDU. I didn’t include either of those in the value since I won’t be using them, but InstaEDU sounds kind of cool for those times you are STUCK on a concept or assignment!
All totaled I came up with a value of $37.97 for the October PijonBox. Boxes starts at $25/month, but I bought the 4-month deal through Living Social for $49 (or $12.25/month), so I am quite pleased with the deal I got! This would be such a fun box for a college student. Getting mail is such a big deal when you are away at school and this would be a great surprise. And don’t worry, they ship ONLY when students are at school. Boxes are sent during the Fall Semester (September – December) and the Spring Semester (February – May) to ensure your student is at school when it arrives.
What do you think of PijonBox? Sadly the amazing Living Social deal is over, but if you are interested in subscribing or just want to learn a little more, click here.
This is my first month for most subscription boxes and I was really impressed with the Pijon Box, at least for the Living Social price. I gave the thredup code to my younger sister and she already used it for a free shirt.
I don’t know if I will renew after my 4 months are up, but for the LS price, I am LOVING it!
I’m receiving my first box in November! I’m really excited to try this box out. Anything catered to college students and you know I’m in 🙂
Did you get the Living Social Deal?
I’ve had the Awake chocolate before. I found one of those candy bars at a gas station one night when I was traveling. I believe it actually helped me stay awake for the remained of the 4hours home and they are delicious!
Way better than expected!
