We skipped Plated last week because we weren’t in town when the delivery was set to arrive and I think B assumed we’d skipped this week too since I never mentioned to him that it arrived (*). He came home from work Thursday and said all sassy – “What’s for dinner”. Umm, PLATED!!  Ha!  He was thrilled.  B loves Plated and really enjoys cooking and this is a great way to make amazing meals without running all around finding the right ingredients and is a complete time saver.

The Box

Plated ships via FedEx and arrives on Tuesdays.   Plated always arrives on Tuesdays no matter what part of the country you are in.  They ship and pack on Mondays and it’s at your door Tuesday.  Amazing.

First Look

I don’t even worry about anything being spoiled in my box anymore. Everything always arrived perfectly chilled and I have never had any missing items or bad produce.  I actually would have expected it by now since we have ordered so many Plated boxes, but it hasn’t happened.

~Pan-Roasted Chicken Panini with Squash and Broccoli Rabe:  While delicious, this totally took more than a half an hour to prepare.  It was totally worth the wait and B never minds preparing any of the Plated meals, but if you were counting on the 30 minute prep time with this one, it wasn’t happening.  I would totally pick to have this one again, but might use something instead of just plain mayo.  Not sure what.  Something.

~Quinoa Salad with Seared Salmon and Avocado: Hmm, I can’t seem to find a link to this on Plated.  No matter, it was one of my favorite Plated meals ever.  It’s not something I would ever thing to mix all together, but it worked.  It totally worked.  And I actually thought the avocado might be bad when I opened the box (it was all soft and kind of dark), but it was perfect when we cut into it.  I should have known better ;).

Did you get Plated this week?  What’d you think?  This weeks menu includes Steak with Rajas Corn and Mexican Squash, Tilapia with Escarole, Roasted Chicken (my pick), Tuna Sushi Bowls and Tortilla Soup (my pick).  This menu, which gets delivered Tuesday (10/15), is only valid until 12pm (EST) on Monday though.  After that, it’s a whole new menu which will be delivered the following Tuesday (10.22).  So if you like these meals, get them now!

If you are interested in giving it a try or want to learn more, click here to try two free plates (new customers only).  Basically you’ll get 4 plates for the price of 2 ($30)!!  That’s 4 meals/plates for $30, which is less than $8/plate.

Disclosure: This post contains referral links!

(*) I tell B about all the boxes I get, what was in them, etc. I’m sure sure he only listens 10% of the time, but he pretends to care. Most of the time.

Do any of your food subscriptions offer any vegetarian/vegan options? It might just be me but they all seem very meat heavy.

    1. Nick

Hello Ace, my name is Nick and I currently work as the assistant manager of the Midwest branch of Plated. I am glad to inform you that we have started offering at least two vegetarian meals every week.

  2. ana ebright

We loved it! I am ordering more this week. Super easy to cook and they send you everything you need.

  3. Nichole

Do you think plated is worth the price? I am interested to try this, but unsure if worth it.

  4. Meagan

Do you still have the recipe for the quinoa and salmon? It looks amazing and I can’t find it on plated :(.

  5. Natalie

Kinda like how my husband only listened to 10% as I was telling him how cool this looks, lol

  6. Glenda

Looks yummy! Is there a code for the free trial because I’m not seeing the discount.
    Thanks!

I just ordered through your referral link. I’m wondering if this is auto billed or do you just chose if you want it for that week and if you do nothing you don’t get charged. They just got Plated in my area. I didn’t get the membership.

I have the same question as Brandy, if I dont want Plated for a week if I do nothing will they not send me anything? I live in TX so Im really excited to try this out (and see how the products in the box stay cold, its still HOT here!) but Im not too excited about this week’s menu.

    1. Jennifer

As long as you don’t have the membership, I am 99% sure you won’t be charged. That might be a question for their Facebook wall just to confirm. Let me know how it works out!

  9. Alex

Ok maybe I am ignorant, but I can’t find the coupon codes you always post for plated. They finally deliver to my area (YAY) so I want to try it. Can you direct me?

It’s automatic when you click through my link!

Plated has been the best thing that?s ever happened to me and my kitchen. I don?t enjoy grocery shopping and often times, the ingredients I need are not available. Plated ingredients are so healthy and all the meat are antibiotic free. The recipes are 5 star restaurant quality and I can proudly say that I made them. I can?t say enough good things about it. I get my food delivered, everything comes out fabulous, I?m learning how to cook better and my family and I can enjoy awesome meals. And I save money as well. It has really improved my quality of life. I wasn?t paid to say this. I just think it?s a great thing and everyone should experience this kind of joy in the kitchen. I love to cook now. Click this http://www.plated.com/invites/a1992f for 2 free plates! Yummy!!

My husband feels the same! He loves it!!

  11. PLATED.COM LEFT US HOLDING THE BAG

PROS: The food looks good on website

CONS: Plated charges shipping on free giveaways, doesn’t protect user privacy and does recurring billing

QUICK TIPS: READ FINE PRINT. They are tricky.

We met the staff at Plated.com at BlogHer13. The product seemed to meet our strict standards but after giving away the gift cards we were given all hell broke loose. The winners were charged $7 for shhipping and some food never arrived. We reached out to Emily at Plated.com and was told she would connect us with rep Benhtzi. This was Sept. 1, 2013. We reached out again and again and NO ONE from Plated.com ever got back with us. In the meantime, angry winners called us and we kept telling them we were waiting to hear back from Emily at Plated. She was just terrible! Their cards were charged each week for additional Plated.com meals. WHAT A MESS! It was like the old days of AOL when the endless CDs showed up at your home! Since September, we called her again on November 11 and she was dismissive and rude. At this point we will be forced to refund the $7 to eleven winners and risk the trust of our readers.

WE SIMPLY CANNOT RECOMMEND PLATED! Buyer Beware

    1. Jennifer

That’s too bad! I have never had an issue with them and never had an issue with the giveaway I did. I hope you can get it all resolved ;(

  12. Pat

I used their coupon they had been advertising for free meals (+ shipping and handling). The shipping came out to be $20, which was still an awesome deal – but 4 days later we got another charge of $48 to our credit card. No warning, just charged. I’m really unhappy with this company.

    1. Anna

      Hi!

Had a bad experience with Plated. Also signed up for a deal I saw promoted to try 4 meals and just pay shipping. It’s a great deal and I was really excited to try this service anyway. I read the fine print, and everything looked fine. Then sure enough, right after our first order, I was “automatically” enrolled in the memebership and charged $48 for the next shipment. It took many emails and phone calls to get this resolved. I liked the idea of cooking with ease, but there really was nothing easy about this. Kinda felt like I got scammed. Will never use them again.

      1. Jennifer

That’s too bad ;(. I don’t do their membership because I would never remember to cancel or skip!

  13. Jennifer

I’m months late but I just signed up for the promo. There’s an option under the account you create to turn off auto delivery. I turned it off after ordering my four free meals and put a reminder in my phone to cancel my membership in three weeks. Hopefully this takes care of the problem, but we’ll see. Can’t wait to try it.

  14. Sally

Well..I loved the idea of having all the ingredients for me to make a healthy gourmet meal. My first order was missing ketchup that they said they were sending with the order. They were nice enough to give me a small credit but my meal i opened tonight has brown sugar missing. Not paying that much for missing ingredients. I cancelled my next 2 orders but they gave me a plated credit not a credit on my credit card
