When the folks over at The Happy Trunk asked me if I’d like to review their boxes for a few months I jumped at the chance! My subscription ended a few months ago and I hadn’t gotten a chance to renew yet.
The Happy Trunk ships via USPS and took only a few days to get to me. I received the box before we left on our trip, but we didn’t have time to dig into it until last night.
I had an idea what the theme was, but wasn’t totally sure. I was excited to see a full pack of markers in there though ;). I love school supplies / office supplies and get way too excited about stuff like that!
The September The Happy Trunk theme was “Let’s Go to the Circus” and included the following four projects: “Circus in a box”, “Circus performers”, “Photo booth props” and “Pin the nose on the clown game”.
Project #1 Photo Booth Props: The first project (and probably the easiest one) we did was photo booth props. All you needed to do was decorate the props, glue them to the straws and that was that! And then for the entire time we worked on the rest of the projects, I listened to L say “I mustache you a question”. I think B told him that one….
Project #2 Circus Performers: L and I both worked on creating a circus performer and his was clearly much more creative than mine. These little peg people remind me of old school little people. You know, the GOOD little people from back in the day! I wonder if my mom still has any??
Project #3 Circus in a Box: While L worked on the last project, I worked on Circus in a Box. I fancy myself to be a pretty good colorer and I think I impressed L with my skills. I loved that this project incorporated the box into it. I wish that more of the kids craft boxes would do that! Even if it were just to have a coloring activity on the inside. I really like feeling that I am using everything!
Project #4 Pin the Nose on the Clown Game: The final project, and L’s favorite, was making a pin the nose on the clown game. He’s normally not a huge fan of coloring, but he happily colored this in order to get to the good part – the game. Okay, so maybe I was unclear about something, but how are you supposed to get the red felt noses to stick to the paper / white flannel nose? Mine didn’t just stick together and what if you landed on the paper? I stuck some tape on the back, but the instructions made no mention of how that would go down. But L didn’t care. He made me spin him around try to land the red nose on the nose like half dozen times. Such an easy project, but he loved it so much!
As always, I impressed with The Happy Trunk. Except now L wants to go to the real circus and I have no idea when it’s coming to town!
