Austin Lloyd, who kindly sent me this box to review, is a subscription box of educational toys for children under 3. They aim to take the guess work out of choosing toys that your child will enjoy, while also gaining skills that aide in their overall development. Each box contains 4-5 educational toys and typically at least one book.
Austin Lloyd ships via USPS Priority Mail and it arrived in the promised two days. I had kind of been stalking this box because I’d been hearing nothing but great things about Austin Lloyd and I wanted to check it out for myself.
Austin Lloyd boxes are personalized (this one was for WB obviously) and I was blown away by the presentation. When I opened the box I found an envelope with the information cards in it (that’s labeled 19-24 months) and basically found a present inside. A piece of white cardboard covers the contents and it’s all tied with a bow. If you were thinking of giving this as a gift, you’d need to do nothing!
The box included a general information card about the Play Level (you can read more about them here) of the box which gives some general information on how your child is playing at this age. I was cracking up because it says that after your child does something special, they will sometimes pause and wait for applause. WB totally does this and sometimes doesn’t even wait for us to clap, he just claps for himself which always cracks me up.
The Austin Lloyd box also included individual information cards which give information about the products, as well as, ideas and tips on how to play with them, what benefit they provide, etc. I should also mention that the theme for November was “Thanksgiving: a time for great, food, family and travel”. It included the following:
~Hape Little Ship ($9.99): This is adorable. Austin Lloyd suggests using it as the Mayflower when you are discussing Thanksgiving with your little one. They also suggest being descriptive when you talking about the motion of the ship. Instead of “look at the ship move”, it’s “look how fast (or slow) the ship is moving”. Totally something I need to work on.
~Haba Ring a Thing Game ($25.99): I love the idea of using this game as a way to entertain your little one during a family gathering. Sometimes all those people can be overwhelming and I think having a little game just for your child is brilliant! I am saving this one for WB for just that.
~The First Thanksgiving ($5.39): WB and I read this before bedtime tonight and he is now obsessed with it. So much so that he wouldn’t let me put him in his crib without this book. So you guessed it, he’s sleeping with this book and his trains tonight ;). I think he turned on his little aquarium after I left the room (I could hear the music) and did a little more reading.
~Plan Toys Fruit and Veggie Play Set ($23): We have a few of these, but not all of them and both boys actually think they are cool. I am saving these for Christmas for WB, but I totally wanted to open them right away and play with them. I love Plan Toys stuff!
All totaled I came up with a value of $64.37 for the November Austin Lloyd box for a 19-24 month old. I LOVED this box and thought, in addition to being a great value, that it was perfectly curated to WB’s age. Subscriptions are $49.99/month and decrease to $44.99/month if a 6-month subscription is purchased. You can also opt to receive boxes every other month if you prefer.
