Tuesdays Troubles

It’s time for another edition of Tuesday Troubles. I’ve said it before, but this should be named “things i’m annoyed / confused / want to complain about”, however I couldn’t figure out how to make any of those into a snappy title, so Tuesday Troubles it is. And yes, I do realize that these aren’t true “troubles”. I know that many of these for sure could be defined as first world problems!

~I think this is a regular feature on Tuesdays Troubles, but I am seriously annoyed by it on a daily basis. WHY can’t people flipping pull over when an ambulance / fire truck is coming. I just don’t get it. Do people not pay attention? Not think it’s important? PULL OVER. Ugh.

~So last week I was in serious need of some coffee. I was tired and well, tired. I didn’t want to make a cup myself (I pretend that I don’t know how the Keurig works when B’s home so he’ll do it for me, but I actually do know….) though. I wanted something fancier. I wanted Starbucks. And then it dawned on me. Why isn’t there a Starbucks truck that cruises through the neighborhood? You know, like the ice-cream truck and the kona-ice truck. How awesome would it be to see that green truck cruising down your street? I need this in my life. It could would stop at office buildings too of course. If you steal my idea, please at least send the truck down my street okay?

~If you use a duvet / down comforter, what kind do you use? Like down, down alternative, etc? I want it to be super puffy and fluffy, but not super heavy. And not super expensive. Any ideas? Suggestions?

~When do you start putting up holiday decorations?  I usually wait till the weekend after Thanksgiving, but I am feeling like I want to do it earlier this year.  My house is so empty now that I took down my Halloween decorations and I really don’t have too many fall / Thanksgiving ones to put up.  What do you do?

~And finally, school drop off.  I used to hear people talk about it and I was like how can it be so bad?  Yeah, it is.  First of all, people just feel like they can park wherever they want.  In the fire lane? Check.  In front of a bus? Check.  I don’t really care that it’s only going to be 2 minutes.  We’re ALL only here for 2 minutes!  There is one guy that cruises up, parks (leaving his car running) across two handicap parking spots and goes and gets his daughter.  We have a monitor, but she’s only one person.  It’s crazy!

That’s it from here for now! What’s troubling you today?

The guy who leaves the car running unattended in a school parking lot needs to be called out on it, or the principal told. Seriously dangerous in a school parking lot! Even more so, if he has a younger child in there.

    1. Jennifer

No younger kids. I need to look for him in the next few days. I don’t know that I have seen him in the past few drop offs? Maybe he has stopped??

      1. Kindra

My son’s school has all the same issues. And so many parents just do whatever they want! lol, I always say I should see if the school will let me volunteer to be the parking lot police for a week. I’ll get it under control 🙂 Last year this lady kept parking in the bus only area (no cars to keep the walking kids safe when crossing there) so while she was sitting in her car waiting one day I (from a distance) pretended to be on the phone reporting her. I just stood by my car and kept looking over at her car. She never parked there again!

        1. Jennifer

Ha! You should! I would love to do that!

  2. Tabitha

Starbucks truck…um, yes please! Someone definitely needs to make that dream a reality.

    1. Jennifer

      I know right??

I have one from ikea that I use. I have the lightest level down alternative I believe. If you go there, they have all the types laid out pretty well explained.

When I was teaching, we had to take turns doing drop off. We had a pretty good system. No one got out of cars, we just kept the line moving. It did help too that we dismissed the bus kids a few minutes earlier and the buses were located in a different part of the school area.

    1. Jennifer

Now the buses and the cars in a different place is a great idea! Our parking lot just isn’t big enough!

  4. Stacey

Ugh people that don’t pull over annoy the hell out of me too, or even worse when you pull over and then car behind you over take you ahhhh!

We don’t normally put up our decorations until the first weekend in December!

That drives me crazy! I pulled over for an emergency vehicle so don’t pass me people!

  5. Leana

I have a down comforter I got from overstock.com. Got a great price on it (just read the reviews and see what people like). I got my duvet covers from Target and love them.

Also, I’m putting up Christmas decorations soon. If the stores are all decked out for it I might as well be too.

Oh, have you seen the Happy Meal books they have right now? So cute.

    1. Jennifer

OMG no? Do I need to go get a Happy Meal?

      1. Leana

I want all 4. So far I got Deana?s Big Dreams and it’s super cute.

Sad part is that I don’t have kids but I don’t care, I still like happy meals.

        1. Jennifer

Ha! I used to get Happy Meals in college for that reason. We went today and got two different ones. The one you got and Doddi the Dodo goes to Orlando.

    2. Tabitha

I remember reading somewhere about the books that would be in Happy Meals. We haven’t been to McDonald’s to check them out yet though. I’m sure my daughter would love them. She still asks to have the little board book over the toy sometimes at Wendy’s.

      1. Jennifer

We went today to check it out and they are so cute!!!!

      2. Glenna

Wendys has board books instead of toys??? Why didn’t I know this?

        1. Jennifer

Do they? I don’t know that we have ever gotten a kids meal from there.

  6. Jen

I ordered a few down alternative comforters from Macy’s during Black Friday sales last year. They were very cheap and sent pretty fast — I think they came with free pillows too!

    1. Jennifer

Ohhh, Macys! They always do have some great deals. I will keep an eye out on Black Friday! Thank you!

No pulling over for an ambulance or fire truck is one of my biggest pet peeves. So annoying!!! I always think what is so much more important in that person’s life that you can’t pull over to let the firefighters and paramedics possibly save someone’s house and/or life.
I usually put my decorations up the day after Thanksgiving. This year though my SO/children’s dad will be leaving for Afghanistan on November 20th, so when he gets back to GA from his training in NJ next week we are going to go all out like it’s already Christmas. This will be the 1st year he hasn’t been here on Christmas morning. My kids are still pretty young (3 & 5), so they don’t understand alot of what’s going on, but I know it will be special for their dad. I have a few facebook friends that posted pics of their families decorating last weekend. I say go for it.
My 5 year old’s after school picks him up, so I’m lucky that I don’t get to experience the drop off and pick up process. I have heard stories, and can only imagine how many arguments I would have been in by now. So…maybe all of the other parents are the lucky ones. =)

    1. Jennifer

Ahh, how long is he going for? It will be fun to have Christmas early since he’s leaving!

And ugh. The not pulling over. Drives me bananas. I can’t even.

  8. Jackie

I have a down comforter and it is my favorite thing in the world. It keeps me super warm in the winter and I still use it in the summer when I have the ac on. It does need to be washed once or twice a year to re-plump up but it is great.

    1. Jennifer

Is it down or down alternative?

      1. Jackie

down. I was gifted it, so I didn’t have to worry about cost. I have heard that some down alternatives are good, but I really do like mine.

  9. Jenny

Granted I don’t do carpool often but ours is down like clockwork. We have a pickup line and then the parking lot for “walkers” Which I always laugh at since they aren’t really walking home but their parents will meet them just outside the doors so they don’t have to wait in the carpool line. Now the carpool lines biggest problem is that you either have to get there early and sit and wait or get there and inch your way up. I usually opt for just getting there early and reading or listening to the radio. Our buses are on the other side of the school so no interference there.

    1. Jennifer

I think newer schools have better set-ups for carpool lanes. Our school isn’t new so it’s set up poorly.

  10. Kim

Bed bath and beyond has good, reasonably priced down comforters and they will explain the different ones to you. We got my daughters from there and also her duvet. We have a duvet on our bed as well and I just put it over the comforter we used to use! I love duvets, but they are definatly a pain to put on and sometimes the comforter shifts inside!

    1. Jennifer

Get duvet clips! They work like a dream.

  11. Judy

I feel your pain about the school parking lot. I worked at an elementary school in the past and the first day is always the worst. Parents park in the staff lot even though it’s clearly labeled for staff only. Teachers have to arrive two hours early just for that reason!

    1. Jennifer

The first day was seriously the craziest day ever. It was so wild in that parking lot!

  12. Aimee A

I was just talking to my sister about how Xmas is 7 weeks away! I feel like I should be putting my tree up!

    1. Jennifer

When are you going to? And when are our Neiman Marcus boxes coming??

  13. Sara

We use a down alternative comforter from targt. It’s fluffy and not too heavy. I’m using it at night and I’m always hot from being pregnant. When it gets colder we add a blanket on top. We also get our duvet covers from target. This is our second one and our first we had for 4 years before replacing. Our currently is 3 years old and not looking like ill need to replace for awhile!

    1. Jennifer

I feel like i have heard that down alternative is fluffier. I need to go compare them all!

  14. Lisa

I have a down comforter from IKEA. I love it. They rate all of theirs by warmth an temp degrees. They also have a display so you can see how thick they are. I also got my cover for it there.

    1. Jennifer

I need to go there and check it out! Thank you!

  15. Lisa

Btw I’m in Wisconsin so our temps are about the same.

  16. lynn m.

i actually just put my quilt into my duvets. i’m in florida though, so it might not be warm enough in Michigan

    1. Jennifer

I don’t think I have ever thought of something like that!

  17. Elizabeth

I usually wait until Thanksgiving weekend to decorate, but it seems late this year so I’ll probably decorate the weekend before. I’ve already let the girls start watching Christmas shows 🙂

    1. Jennifer

I kind of want to start watching Christmas shows too. What are their favorites?

      1. Elizabeth

The girls love Elmo’s Christmas countdown plus the regulars like Frosty and Rudolph.

  18. Mrs. L

There used to be this van that would come to our office building selling coffee. She would make lattes, cappuccinos, etc. She even made shakes. Heaven. I always thought I should start up my own mobile coffee business.

As for comforters….we use a duvet cover but don’t put anything in it (no comforter, no down thing etc). Once a certain time in my life happened and I have shall we say, my own personal summers in the middle of the night, anything but a sheet over me is too hot (doesn’t help I usually a have a cat or two sleeping up against me). Hubby has a quilt that he uses on his side, but our “duvet cover” is strictly for show.

    1. Jennifer

Who is this van lady? Send her to Michigan at once.

Is the duvet alone weird to sleep under? I love to be all covered up, but I want it to be not heavy. So many requirements.

      1. Mrs. L

My duvet covers are of different weights. In the spring/summer they are pretty light (think two sheets put together). I have ones that are flannel and I have one that is fake fur which is pretty heavy and is our winter cold duvet. Which again, on my side are all for show as they get thrown off when I go to bed (or jumbled up onto my husband lol).

  19. Jennifer

I hate when people don’t pull over. Are you that selfish that you think your life is more important then someone else’s? How mad would they get if they were in the ambulance and no one pulled over for them?

A coffee truck would be a great idea. There is definitely a market for it.

I like causally putting up my decorations starting about a week after Halloween. This year the Hanukkah stuff will come out earlier since it starts the same day as Thanksgiving. The bigger stuff (like lights and everything outside) comes up the weekend after Thanksgiving.

    1. Jennifer

I do not understand the not pulling over. It drives me so crazy.

Maybe I will just start little things here and there?? That sounds good. And then a tree after Thanksgiving…

  20. Lauren

I left up some of my pumpkins and other just fall themed decorations because my house felt so empty too! I think I’m going to put my decorations up before Thanksgiving this year because it falls so late.

And how awesome would a Starbucks truck be? I’d chase it down daily. Or twice a day. Or… well, you know. You know what else I’m dying for? A playplace Starbucks. Seriously how does that not exist yet?!

    1. Jennifer

OMG. Starbucks needs to implement both ASAP. How amazing would that be??

  21. Janine

OMG I was just going on a rant about people not pulling over to my husband while we were in our car in a parking lot and we were watching people who were not even attempting to pull over for 3 speeding, sirening, and flashing police cars in heavy traffic. I couldn’t believe it! and it happens with the fire trucks and ambulances all the time as well. I’ve seen people drive through red lights as well as not pull over, it’s absolutely insane and completely unjustifiably selfish. I always feel like the lone car that pulls over and then can’t get back into the lane where I was because every other jerk decided to speed up and do nothing. Isn’t this one of the main questions they ask people on their driving tests in most states???

    1. Jennifer

Ohhh, I like when people kind of slow down and then speed past you (when you are pulled over) the second the ambulance passes you.

  22. Kim Kjerulf

Love my down comforter. It is so warm and comfy, but not to warm. I use the Martha Stewart duvets from Macy’s. They are lightweight, but pretty.

    1. Jennifer

      That sounds nice!!
