February 2014 Birchbox Man Review
February 2014 Birchbox Man Review

Yay! B’s February 2014 Birchbox Man box arrived today! I didn’t get too many boxes today, so I was happy to see it.

The Box

Birchbox ships via Newgistics which ends up being delivered by USPS.  My box took less than a week to arrive, which is about standard.  Is anyone else curious about how much companies actually pay for shipping? This would probably cost me, what, $2-$3 to ship>  But I am guessing BB is able to get a much better rate or this would never work!

The Box in the Box

Same box as normal.  Nothing new to report with this one.  Every time B gets his Birchbox I am jealous that he gets a cool lifestyle item.  I totally wish BB would do that for the ladies!  Heck, I’d pay $20 to swap a sample for a fun lifestyle item.

First Look

B received Birchbox #13 this month (*), which I was quite pleased about.  I always peek at all the boxes and check out all the lifestyle items to see which one I think B would like best.  Sometimes he gets the “best” (best to us anyway) ones and sometimes not!

The Oops Information Card

Ha!  The January 2014 Birchbox Man information card is a complete mess.  They sent out an e-mail about it with the tracking for the boxes and said that instead of the normal text, it got swapped with “a strange stream of consciousness from a very ungentlemanly cat” at the printer.  Which is basically true.  I totally enjoyed it though.  You can read the real information, you know what should have been on the card, here.

The Back of the Card (No oops)

The February theme was all about the Gentleman Code, which Birchbox followed when they apologized for the card screw up.  The box includes items to help you with classic gentleman’s foundational values: respect, courage, and honesty.  We received the following:

~Billy Jealousy Adrenaline Junkie Energizing Scrub ($3): Ohh, this smells fabulous.  You can use it up to 3 times a week on both your face and body.  It’s gritty and once B gets back into the gym (he’s not allowed to lift because of his eyes) he’ll for sure bring this.  And does anyone have a recommendation for an energizing body wash for me?  Please share!

~würkin stiffs Power Stays ($20): Totally B.  These are perfect and, if I recall correctly, appeared in a box a few months ago that he was sad he didn’t get!  As long as I remember to take these out before I go to the dry cleaner we’ll be all set ;).

~Baxter of California Hard Cream Pomade ($2.97):  I totally read this as “hand cream” and couldn’t figure out why it was in that little round container!   But now it makes sense.  Both boys (B and L) are into styling their hair, so for sure this will get used and quickly.  This isn’t a concern of B’s since he doesn’t wear a hat to work, but how do boys manage their hair in the winter when wearing hats?  Put a hat on and that product is a mess!

~Schulz & Malley Cleansing Face Wash ($3): This is a Birchbox exclusive and is a no-frills facial wash to help you stick to your routine.  It’s got a light scent and again, will go in B’s gym bag.

~Arquiste Aleksandr ($3.39): I am happy to report that I do not love this because at $165/bottle it’s probably never coming in this house!  It’s described as a “fiery” fragrance which I think is fairly accurate.

All totaled, B’s December Birchbox Man had a value of $32.36, (NOT including points for doing reviews and purchasing the box itself (**) – which would bring the value up to $38.36!  Birchbox Man is $20/month so the collar stays alone made the box for us.  Other lifestyle items this month included a baseball cap and stationary.  I would have liked the stationary, but I don’t know that B has written a letter in years, so that’s totally not him.

Do you get Birchbox Man?  What’d you think of the box this month?  If you are interested in subscribing or just want to learn more, click here.

(*) If you want to see all the boxes this month, click here and change the 1 at the end to anything from a 2 to 20 since there were 20 (down from last month’s 25 variations) box variations this month. If you can’t figure out which box number you got, login into Birchbox and then Click “Box” and select Men’s or Women’s. Scroll down a bit to were it says “Box History” and click the month of the box (in this case February 2014). The number at the end of the URL is your box number. B’s box ended in “january-2014-bb21″ which means he got box #21.
(**) You only get points for purchasing the box if you buy a prepaid annual subscription (or 3-month, 6-months, etc.). You don’t get points if you are on a month to month subscription.
