January 2014 House of Marché

House and Marché, who kindly sent me this complimentary box to review, is an online retail store dedicated to high- lighting the best and the brightest of the small-batch food movement in the South. They don’t follow the subscription box model, however, they will be releasing a new box each month full of the best artisan foods from Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, the Carolinas, Mississippi, and Kentucky.

The Box

House and Marché ships via FedEx. It came in a plain brown box and I had NO idea what it was at first! They just launched so are still in the process of getting their boxes (and information cards) printed, which explains the plain box.

First Look

Since I didn’t realize at first which box this was, I opened the box totally not knowing what to expect.  I was thrilled to see a bunch of products I had never heard of / seen before and thought “whatever this is, it’s cool”!

The Information Brochure

House and Marché will be including an information card in the boxes (this is a digital copy of it), which contains information on each of the products included in the box, along with information on where to find these goodies!  Here is what was inside:

~The Chocolate Lab Goat Milk Caramel Southern Artisan Candy Bar ($8): The best way I can think to describe this is like a milky way, but 100x better.  It was delicious.  And I love that it’s really two candy bars in one so you can enjoy it twice.

~The Chocolate Lab PERC Coffee Southern Artisan Candy Bar ($8):  It should come as no surprise that this one is delicious as well!  The Chocolate Lab makes all of their chocolates by hand, using only local ingredients. I now want to try their Sampler Collection which includes one bar of every flavor!

~PERC Coffe Kimel Estate AA ($12): I hadn’t tried this yet (I don’t even know how to work the make your own Vue cup thing), but B grabbed this as soon as he got home and and was like wow, this smells GOOD!  PERC is based in Savannah and specializes in esoteric, high-quality coffees.

~Oliver Pluff & Company Pekoe Black Tea Blend ($12):  I don’t love tea (you all know that by now), but I know lots of people who do, so this will be enjoyed by someone!  Oliver Pluff & Company is based in Charleston and specializes in iced tea and blends from the American Colonial era.

~Copper Pot & Wooden Spoon Spiced Apple & Beer Jam ($11.25):  This is recommended as “an excellent cheese and charcuterie accompaniment, especially with brie, a perfectly aged white cheddar, or cured meats like salami and prosciutto” and that’s exactly what is going to happen this weekend.  Sunday night for the Big Game most likely.  I am so looking forward to it!

All totaled the January House and Marché has a value of $51.25.  Of course that does not include the curation or the shipping costs (for example the jam alone would be $7.50 to ship it to you), which would bring the real value of the box to well over the $65 monthly cost.

I just ordered the variety box with all four chocolate bars. I think my husband will like it for Valentines Day. And I might try a few bites too :). Thanks for the inspiration! I would never have known about the company otherwise.
