I don’t know what I was thinking, but I ended up with three meal delivery subscription boxes this week! Let’s start with Plated since that was the one that we finished up first (probably because that was the one that arrived earliest in the week).

The Box

Plated ships via FedEx and usually arrives in my area on Tuesdays.   However, because of the polar vortex last week, Plated decided to delay shipment so I did not receive my box until Wednesday.  That was a good call on their part because I am guessing that this would have all arrived frozen solid had it shipped on Monday!

First Look

Unlike the last few months when Plated used a thinner packaging material, Plated returned to the thicker padded insulation for this delivery.  I think this time it was to protect the food from getting too cold!  In the summer, they use it for the opposite reason.  Here is what we selected this week:

~Steak Fajitas with Guacamole (recipe not up yet): I knew right away that these were for us!  Steak, fajitas and guacamole?  Yes, yes and yes!!!  And these did not disappoint.  My picture does not do them justice at all.  They were perfection!   We will totally be making these again.  Totally!

~Tofu, Cashew and Snow Pea Stir-Fry:  I knew right away I would love the steak fajitas, so I decided to pick an “out there” plate for my 2nd meal.  I do not believe that B and I have ever made tofu at home, but I figured why not?  And it was good!  I think both of us would have preferred it with meat, but we also didn’t hate it by any means.  Would I have it again?  Probably.  I feel like the texture of tofu is something you have to get used too, so I imagine it only gets better.

If you order by noon on Mondays, your box will arrive by Tuesday / Wednesday of that same week depending on your location. The next menu will come out tomorrow after noon, so make sure to get signed up for their e-mails if you want a reminder because they have been selling out more and more recently!

  1. We are getting the salmon & the steak next week. I totally bought the salmon for the kids. 🙂 I suspect my daughter will eat 75% of it. She’s a fish fiend! The week after…. not so much for us. That’s a skip week.

Wait can you already see the menu for the week after? Where have I been??

I need to go take a look! Thanks!

This past week we got the sweet potato kale pizza and the tomato fennel pollock stew and both were incredible! Plated never disappoints. This week we’re getting the salmon and citrus salad and the miso ginger pollock…sounds delicious! Next week I’m getting the salmon teriyaki and wild mushroom pappardelle.

I almost got that pizza but just wasn’t sure. I am very excited for the salmon this week!

I’ve been debating on ordering from plated for a while now, I was just wondering if you like the portion size I have read allot of reviews that complain about the portion size. Since I love your blog I would love your opinion on it.

    1. Jennifer

Do they say they are too small?? I feel like they are plenty! Sometimes even enough for a little left overs. There have only been a few times I was left wanting more.

      1. Sarah

Portion size is small. I am fit and don’t eat a whole lot, but felt for the price the portion sizes are small. Thats my take.

  4. Anthony

your reviews are great. From your experience, which subscription have you enjoyed more? plated or hello fresh? Both look good, but it seems hello fresh is the better deals how are the portion sizes and which have had more consistent recipes over your trials. Thank you!

      Hi Anthony!

I found the portion sizes between the two to be about the same. I feel like Plated a big “fancier” of the two (the recipes just seem to be a little more foodie if you will), but I have never had a problem with either of them! I actually believe that the least expensive of them all is Blue Apron! I would totally recommend trying both Plated with a coupon and Hello Fresh with a coupon and seeing which you prefer!

I think I purchased my first Pop Sugar box thanks to one of your articles. That was a long time ago! I’m glad to see your blog is still running strong…. Now I’m off to try my first Plated experience. I’m concerned about the portion sizes. I don’t eat very much either but I will be cooking for three. I read your comments above about portion and the picture makes it look like enough meat for three. Time will tell!

I just made my fajitas lasts night from plated. Unfortunately, the avocado they shipped to us was a few days away from being ripe. The fajitas themselves were still pretty good, but I’m still a little disappointed that the guacamole wasn’t possible to make.
