I don’t know what I was thinking, but I ended up with three meal delivery subscription boxes this week! Let’s start with Plated since that was the one that we finished up first (probably because that was the one that arrived earliest in the week).

The Box

Plated ships via FedEx and usually arrives in my area on Tuesdays.   However, because of the polar vortex last week, Plated decided to delay shipment so I did not receive my box until Wednesday.  That was a good call on their part because I am guessing that this would have all arrived frozen solid had it shipped on Monday!

First Look

Unlike the last few months when Plated used a thinner packaging material, Plated returned to the thicker padded insulation for this delivery.  I think this time it was to protect the food from getting too cold!  In the summer, they use it for the opposite reason.  Here is what we selected this week:

~Steak Fajitas with Guacamole (recipe not up yet): I knew right away that these were for us!  Steak, fajitas and guacamole?  Yes, yes and yes!!!  And these did not disappoint.  My picture does not do them justice at all.  They were perfection!   We will totally be making these again.  Totally!

~Tofu, Cashew and Snow Pea Stir-Fry:  I knew right away I would love the steak fajitas, so I decided to pick an “out there” plate for my 2nd meal.  I do not believe that B and I have ever made tofu at home, but I figured why not?  And it was good!  I think both of us would have preferred it with meat, but we also didn’t hate it by any means.  Would I have it again?  Probably.  I feel like the texture of tofu is something you have to get used too, so I imagine it only gets better.

Did you get Plated this week?  What’d you think?  Next week’s menu options are: Seared Salmon with Winter Citrus Salad (our pick), Bulgur Salad with Green Beans, Cherry Tomatoes, and Feta, Provencal Steak with Purple Potatoes and Green Beans, Carrot Kari with Garbanzo Beans over Basmati Rice, Spanish Chickpea and Spinach Soup, Chicken with White Wine Pan Sauce (our pick) and Miso Ginger Crusted Pollock with Chinese Broccoli. If you order by noon on Mondays, your box will arrive by Tuesday / Wednesday of that same week depending on your location. The next menu will come out tomorrow after noon, so make sure to get signed up for their e-mails if you want a reminder because they have been selling out more and more recently!

If you are interested in giving it a try or want to learn more, click here to try two free plates (new customers only).  Basically you’ll get 4 plates for the price of 2 ($30)!!  That’s 4 meals/plates for $30, which is less than $8/plate.
