The Homegrown Collective, who kindly sent me this box to review, includes seasonally appropriate, professionally curated products that deliver the satisfaction of living a more self-sufficient & sustainable lifestyle to your doorstep each month.

The Box

The Homegrown Collective ships via USPS Priority Mail. They always ship at the end of the month, and delivery takes about two days.

First Look

I hadn’t seen any posts about the January 2014 Homegrown Collective theme and the first look didn’t provide me with many clues either.

The Information Cards

Ahh, here we go!  The January 2014 Homegrown Collective theme was “DIY Detoxify: Inside & Out”.  The theme seems to fit perfectly for January after all the holiday indulging.

The Details

This month’s Homegrown Collective box was all about giving you a reason to give your body a break with a hot mineral bath, a cup a tea and a chance to get a little muddy.  Here is what projects were included this month:

~Dandelion Leaf Herbal Tea: Since I don’t like tea, I skipped this project, but I did read all about the power of the dandelion herb which I had no idea about.  Quite interesting, but it didn’t make me want to drink tea (not much would).  My cousin (who gets all my tea) will be happy about this though!

~Dead Sea Salts and Lavender Fizzing Bath Soaks: This was a super easy project to make.  All you had to do was mix the salts, the lavender buds and the sodium bicarbonate & citric acid blend and put them in the little bags.  Those go right in the bath.  If I had to guess, I would say that there are enough supplies for about 15 (?) baths?  Oh and  the Dead Sea Salts actually came with a mineral certificate, which I thought was pretty cool!

~Bentonite Clay & Rosewater Mask: The final project in the box (and my favorite) was a clay mask!  You mixed the powdered clay with water, smeared it on your face and then sprayed with the rosewater / water mixture.  I loved it. I felt like it made my pores open up and I’ll totally use this again.  It was really thick and I was a tad scared I’d never get it off, but it was fine.  And again, there is enough clay in this for TONS of masks!

I never do a cost breakdown for the Homegrown Collective since it would be too difficult.  But I also wouldn’t describe The Homegrown Collective as a “value box”.  It’s all about the curation and the opportunity to learn about (at least I learn a lot with these boxes) new natural ways to do things.

Boxes are $48 /month and, of course, are even cheaper if you buy a 6-month ($39/month) or 12-month ($35.75/month) subscription!  If you are interested in subscribing, or just want to learn more, click here.  And don’t forget to use the code “RAMBLIN10″ to save $10 off your first box!!!

Disclosure: This complimentary box was sent for review purposes. As always, all opinions are my own and no compensation was received.
