Tuesday’s Troubles

It’s time for another edition of Tuesday Troubles. I’ve said it before (like every week), but this should be named “things i’m annoyed / confused / want to complain about”, however I couldn’t figure out how to make any of those into a snappy title, so Tuesday Troubles it is. And yes, I do realize that these aren’t true “troubles”. I know that many of these for sure could be defined as first world problems!

~So B and I were watching the Games last night and we are curious. Do some of the athletes have jobs other than, well, being athletes? Like if you are a bobsledder, do you make enough from sponsorships and prize money to sustain the costs of the equipment and competitions and living expenses and everything?  Or no?  I know like a Shaun White has tons of sponsorships, but how about other athletes?

~Speaking of the Games, if I see the Chevy Tahoe “Babysitter” commercial one more time I am going to lose my mind.  It must have been on 10 times last night.  You know what it makes me want to do after seeing it so many times?  NOT buy a Tahoe.

~Why is it if you are 5 minutes late to an appointment it’s basically the end of the world, yet if the salon or doctor’s office is running an hour behind, oh that’s just normal? Drives me totally insane.  Can no one call and say, oh hey, we’re running a bit behind?  No one?  Or at least maybe act like they care?    Because I find it a tad annoying to be left sitting in a waiting room without any updates about what on earth is happening!

~Last week I got a letter from the post office which included a shipping label from one of B’s books I’d sold on half.com.  The letter basically said it had become detached from the package (?) and they had no idea where the contents of the package were.  Huh?  If you have ever gotten a package from me, you know I tape those labels on with packing tape so how it fell off is beyond me.  I had a packing slip in the book, so I am hoping that somehow it got sent along on it’s way, but who knows.  The buyer clearly hasn’t missed the book since they never e-mailed me to say it didn’t arrive and also never responded when I told them what happened.  Maybe it did arrive?  Who knows.  But really, how did the label perfectly fall off my package?

~And finally, L is off school this week for Winter Break and the original plan of him heading up-north for a few days didn’t happen, so now we are without a plan!  Anyone around this area know of any great last minute deals for next weekend?  Or fun shows in town or anything?  Or just something fun in general?

That’s it from here for now! What’s troubling you today?

Some athletes are employed by their sponsors. I know there was a big deal about Home Depot and the Post Office at some point. It may not have been the Olympics but it was some big event like it. I remember back when you weren’t allowed to be a pro athlete at all and compete in the Olympics. Now though, we have NHL players, NBA players, Shaun White, etc, so it is still a bit weird.

    1. Jennifer

I do remember that as well. Interesting that they now allow it all!

Had a pkg come totally open in cold weather like this sub zero stuff. The packing tape adhesive froze up and failed. Dont know where they store pkgs in transit, in the truck outside duh. They will have to start making it with degrees on it like sleeping bags, good up to 3 below. LOL Better hit the slopes before the big thunderstorm thursday and then freezing again for the wkend.

      So odd!

I feel you on the Tahoe commercial. To me the message of the commercial is “if you own a Tahoe, you will have to pay more for a bratty babysitter.” No thanks.

Seriously. It was awful. I could handle one time but they just kept playing it over and over and over!!

  4. a lot of olympic athletes work at home depot and costco and places like that. they are generally SUPER flexible with the athletes and they pay pretty well. i think home depot employs the most olympians. there’s a special program that pays them year round.

you know what i think is weird? when they are at their last olympics and are like, this is my LAST SKELETON RUN EVAR. or whatever. because i’m like really? you are REALLY NEVER DOING IT AGAIN? in your entire life? the ice skaters they make clear they all have pro careers afterwards but some of the others are like, i’m totally done, I AM NEVER DOING THAT AGAIN.

E was supposed to have school today but they delayed opening by 2 hours because it snowed half an inch last night. it’s seriously going to be 50 degrees today. so his class was canceled. boo. i just woke up from a nap. i can’t get anything done. i am so over being sick.

I am sure they will do it again!!!! Just for fun!

I’ll post soon. It wasn’t that exciting this time.

We just went to the Ann Arbor Hands On Museum yesterday…so much fun! We all had a blast! I definitely recommend checking that out if you haven’t yet.

I have never been!!! That may be a to do!

I saw a documentary about an Olympic weightlifter and she basically said that her brother pays for her to do all the things she needs to do to be an athlete because he plays football in the NFL. She said without him, she wouldn’t be able to go. Apparently most athletes do have full time jobs outside of the Olympics and sponsorships like those given to Saun White and Michael Phelps are rare.

      THat’s got to be hard!!!

Regarding the Olympians, yes, most of them will have regular jobs. A few years back, Pep Boys got in a bit of a PR nightmare when they wouldn’t let someone off to train/compete, and then you had Home Depot cheering on their employee who was in the same position. Sponsors can pick up a lot of the tab, but if there’s no glamour to your sport, it’s a lot tougher.

As for that label, I know what you mean. I’m rather paranoid about them coming off so I tape and tape and tape. The package would fall apart before the label would. LOL

    1. Jennifer

LOL. The lane was in perfect condition. It probably was the package that was the mess.

  9. Nicole

I said the same thing about that Chevy commercial. I kept forgetting we were watching live tv and couldn’t fast forward it.

    1. Jennifer

It was on SO much. So annoying.

  10. Rebecca

I totally agree with you on the Tahoe commercial. I felt like the girl was so bratty.

    1. Jennifer

      So bad!

I read through the comments and I had the same thought as others that they all work at Home Depot. LOL I don’t think its been as big a deal this time but I know it was before. I also think parents really foot the bill for their kids a long time when they are olympians.
M has me place a return address sticker right to my package before I tape the label over it. Hoping that even if the random label comes off they can at least return the package to me. I tape everything down really well so hopefully it doesn’t happen.
I may have to do Target post today. Nothing that was overly exciting or a surprise but I did get some good deals today. I was very excited. Went to two Targets and got so much stuff. LOL

    1. Jennifer

I wasn’t overly excited by the deals this year either. Nothing I “needed”. LOL!

This was like a BIG postage label from Paypal. That was seriously taped on the package with a ton of packing tape. No idea what happened. No idea.

  12. cindy

I can’t speak for every office but as a health care provider myself it’s very stressful for us on the other side of the door as well! 🙂 no one likes to run behind…and most times you dont really know its happening till its too late! But I feel ya about waiting and not knowing what’s going on! 🙂

    1. Jennifer

Oh I bet! Plus then you get everyone complaining that you’re running behind!
