Zoobean
Cost: $2.99 – $14.95/month (depending on package selected)
Ships To: United States.
Zoobean, who kindly sent me this package to review, is a monthly subscription service which helps you build your individual child’s literacy with remarkable children’s books and apps selected just for him or her. You may select from a monthly book delivery service (from $9.99/month) that gives you one hardcover or paperback book each month, along with an app recommendation + literacy guides or a digital service option (from $2.99/month) and receive weekly personalized app + book recommendations that come with literacy guides.
This was L’s package, who is 6 years-old. I also get one sent for WB (who is nearly 2), but it hasn’t arrived yet.
Zoobean ships via USPS Media Mail and only took a few days to arrive. Once again, both L’s and WB’s packages shipped at the same time and both shipped via Media Mail, however, I received L’s first.
Here is what we received this month:
The Book
This month we received Phileas’s Fortune. I have never heard of this book before, but we already read it and it is super cute. It’s about a boy who doesn’t have the words he needs to express himself and about how choosing your words is very important. A great lesson and I really like that they select more unique – not as mainstream – books. The subscription also included a Reading Guide (which is e-mailed on the day the book is delivered) with questions to ask before and after you read the book and a game to play to go along with the book.
The App
Our recommended app this month was “The Human Body“. This is an awesome app for L because he had a great time learning about the different organs and their functions in Science class this year and this will be a great companion!
The Zoobean plan I received is $14.95, which includes the monthly hardcover book + the digital reading guide + the app selection and app companion. If you are interested in just the Digital Service, it’s $2.99/month and you will receive a Receive a weekly email that includes an expert created Reading Guide or App Companion along with a book or app recommendation. And then you can pick up the book at the bookstore or borrowing it from your local library!

Is that really worth the money? I feel like the book and app would be cheaper or around the same price. I know they have the price on the back of the book. Maybe I am just cheap, lol, but that seems a little steep.
I linked to the book on Amazon and think it was around $13 something? I know no one pays the price listed on the book! I think the reading guide and the curation (I never would have found / picked this book on my own) are what is adding the value here.
True, I spent a crazy amount collecting all the Dr Seuss books. A good book is worth its weight in gold.
