February 2014 Appleseed Lane Review

Appleseed Lane, who kindly sent L and I this box to review, is focused on developing a love of learning among kids in preschool and elementary school. They deliver exciting and educational boxes each month filled with all of the materials you need for 3 to 4 science or math projects. Each month’s box has a unique theme and are designed for kids ages 4-10 years old.

The Box

Appleseed Lane ships via USPS Ground.  I received it earlier in February, but L and I didn’t work on it until yesterday afternoon so my review was a little delayed.

The Theme

The February 2014 Appleseed Lane theme was “Journey Into Space” which could not have been more perfect for us right now because guess what L is learning about in Science class?  Yep, the solar system!  L was super excited about this box and couldn’t wait to dig in yesterday.   Here’s what was included:

~Project #1: Moon Phases: The first project was moon phases and was all about learning about the different phases.  The flashlight and the stress moon ball acted as the sun and the moon.  It wasn’t exactly the same as learning outside, but L understood what we were doing and seemed to enjoy it.

~Project #2 – Scope it Out: The second project we worked on was creating a telescope.  L loved making this one and loved looking at everything through the telescope.  He hasn’t looked at the moon through it yet, but it will happen on the next clear night!

~Project #3 – Star Struck: This for sure is a up-north activity.  We aren’t in a big city or anything, but you can for sure see the stars better up-north.  For sure.  This star chart will help us know what to look out for because I can never tell.  B knows, but I need someone to show me exactly what we are looking for!

~Project #4 – Space Race: Space Race was for sure the biggest hit around here.  First L used the provided stickers to make a solar system and then we played the space race game.  L and B were like space experts and I learned that I need to brush up on my knowledge of the solar system.  For real.  I didn’t know anything!  I need to do some work on this before L starts to bring home difficult homework so I can help!
