The Homegrown Collective, who kindly sent me this box to review, includes seasonally appropriate, professionally curated products that deliver the satisfaction of living a more self-sufficient & sustainable lifestyle to your doorstep each month.

The Box

Homegrown Collective ships via USPS Priority Mail.  They always ship at the end of the month meaning that sometimes you may not receive your monthly box until early the following month.  I believe I received my February Homegrown Collective on the first or second day of the March this month.

I knew right away that this box was honey related.  I know that they did a honey themed box a year or so ago, but that was before I started receiving the boxes.

The February 2014 Homegrown Collective theme was “Honey: How Sweet It Is” and includes three products which are a homage to Spring and the Bee.  Here is what was included:

~Honey Lip Balm: The first project I worked on was making Honey Lip Balm.  I have made lip balm a few times in the past so I basically knew the drill.  It is always a challenge though to make sure you have the proportions right.  Too much oil makes the balm too mushy.  Too much beeswax and it will be too hard.  I think I got a good combination for this one and was pleased with the results (and have applied it half dozen times since I made it just to test it out).

~Honey Sugar Face Scrub:  I think I was most excited about this one.  It’s a face scrub that contains only two ingredients – raw honey and organic sugar.  I added grapeseed oil too, but that’s not required by any means.  I loved this.  I don’t know when my face has felt softer.  It was kind of difficult to spread, but I added a little water to it and all was well. I will be making another batch of this again soon.

~Oh My Wood Butter: Wood butter, which is made from beeswax and grapeseed oil is a way to bring your wooden utensils back to life.  The project included coasters to make (which I did) and then also encouraged you to try it on your own wooden cutting boards, utensils, etc.  I didn’t have anything that looked too rough, but I liked how it made the coasters look!  I probably should have removed the bark from my coasters (I broke one of the four) because I can’t seem to get the wood butter out of some of the cracks, but oh well!

I never do a cost breakdown for the Homegrown Collective since it would be too difficult.  As always, I wouldn’t describe The Homegrown Collective as a “value box”.  It’s all about the curation and the opportunity to learn about new things.  If you happen to have some honey and sugar around, I seriously recommend mixing it up and doing a facial scrub tonight!

What do you think of The Homegrown Collective?   Boxes are $48 /month and, of course, are even cheaper if you buy a 6-month ($39/month) or 12-month ($35.75/month) subscription!  If you are interested in subscribing, or just want to learn more, click here.  And don’t forget to use the code “RAMBLIN10″ to save $10 off your first box!!!

I always use a sugar/honey/brown sugar scrub to exfoliate my lips! I think if you added it to some beeswax you could make it into a scrub-stick; kinda like the one that e.l.f. has!

That is what we had planned to do with ours. Now where did my box go while I was on vacation? I’m sure it is here somewhere.
