First Look

I loved the first look.  Everything basically looked unfamiliar to me and that was awesome!  Just what I would expect from a subscription like this.

The Information Card

Thankfully Taste for Sweets came with an information card.  I would never have been able to identify some of this and am even worse describing what they taste like!  Although I am trying my best to eat clean, I did make an exception to sample some of these.  How could I not?  Here is what was included:

~Elvan Truffle (Turkey): This is a milk chocolate truffle with strawberry filling and crisp rice.  I really liked the chocolate (of course) and the rice, but I could have done without the filling.

~Hello Panda (Japan): Love these!  Probably one of my favorite foreign snacks.  They are biscuits filled with a milk chocolate cream filling.  Super yummy.

~Korolevsky Sharm (Ukraine): This is a dark chocolate coated Ukrainian confection.  I’d describe it as truffle like so of course I liked it.

~Shipuchka (Russia):  These are hard candies with fizzy orange, lemon and lemonade flavors.  I am saving them for a special treat for L since I know he’ll get a kick out of them.

~Age Ichiban Crackers (Japan):  These are Japanese rice crackers and I can’t say I am a huge fan.  I have had them before but don’t know that I would willingly snack on them.

~Ali Babi (Palestine): I honestly can say that this is the first snack from Palestine that I have ever had.  It’s a wafer bar filled with chocolate cream and coated with chocolate.  What’s not to like here?

~Ulker Clip Pizza Sticks (Turkey): These remind me of the pringles pizza sticks, but I do think that these are tastier!

~Natural 12 (Korea): This is a biscuit snack bar which contains 12 grains.  I meant to ask B if he’s ever had one (he was stationed in Korea), but I forgot.  I will give this to him tonight.

~Chocolat (Ukraine): This is a dark chocolate covered hazelnut and you guessed it, it was delicious!  I only took a bite (or two) of everything, but I must say that most of the time I wanted more of them.

~Elvarin Milky (Turkey): Mmm, this is another milk chocolate coated wafer with a cream filling and I thought it was even better than the one from Palestine (which means it was really really good since I loved that one).

~Cresa Karamel (Macedonia): This is a sweet cherry filled caramel candy.  I am also going to save this one for B because I think he’d enjoy it more than I would.  Although, the caramel part does make me want to try it.

~Black Balsam (Latvia): This is a chocolate sweet with “Riga Black Balsam” filling.  I am not 100% sure what that is, but I know it’s good.

~Matlow’s Candy (England): These are classic crystal fruit flavored candies and I think they may have been my favorite item from the box.  I love hard candy like these and they aren’t as easy to find as you would think. These are perfect.

~Rachki (Ukraine): Hmm.  This is described as a hard candy with a chocolate nut filling and while that sounds good, I just can’t get past the lobster on the package.  I am going to have B try this one as well.  I am sure it doesn’t taste like lobster, but I’m still scared!

I didn’t do a cost breakdown for Taste for Sweets, but at $16/month I think it’s a great way to try a bunch of snacks you’d probably never have tried otherwise!

My sister in law is from Japan and she used to bring back lots of Hello Panda after she visited her parents. And OMG are they delicious! And in case you are wondering the ones they sell at Target are not even close to as good.

    1. Jennifer

I do like the real Japanese ones better although the Target ones are tasty!

The lobster on the hard candy wrapper would scare me too! Looks like an interesting box though, so may give this one a try!

LOL. I am glad I am not alone in thinking that!

The party store across the street sells Ali Babi bars. They aren’t bad.

      Don’t blame me!

They got the name wrong on one product. It’s Koala’s March, not Hello Panda. It even says the English name on the package, so I don’t know how they got that confused. Hello Panda is a real product, but not what you got.

I ordered this box a few weeks ago and am having trouble finding out when they will ship, and when I try to contact them via email they never reply. Anyone else having this problem?

    1. Jennifer

I have not heard anything about them lately? Do they ship from the states? If you don’t get a reply, I would totally contact your credit card!

    2. Rachel Friend

YES. I ordered a box June 26th and never received my box, I contacted them 3 weeks ago, multiple times through email, their site, facebook, and twitter and no replies until yesterday. They said they are no longer in business and will refund my purchase… I still get NO box, and looked at their website and it says nothing about being out of business. Incredibly disappointed.

I tried taste for sweets for three months so far. At first it was great! I was super excited to try new candy. However, now i have three complaints. 1. I am very surprised you had a card because none of my boxes explained where the candy was from or what it was! I had to Google everything! 2. The other boxes were exactly like the first, no new candy. 3 But most disappointingly, I CANNOT CANCEL. I have tried emailing them, they have no phone number. My two emails were ignored and i am continually charged each month!
BECAUSE OF THIS although it seems a good idea DO NOT ORDER THE MONTHLY BOX!

    1. Jennifer

This was back in March, so they may have done away with them?

Either way, I hope you contacted your credit card company!
