MakrBox, who kindly sent me this box to review, is a way for you to discover independent makers from across the Pacific Northwest. It describes itself as being more than just a monthly subscription box of maker goodness and is also a way for you to support a local economy, inspire craft and encourage uniqueness.
MakrBox now offers the following three subscription options: Minimalist $14 (free shipping) which includes 1 to 2 small batch, consumable products per month, Classic $34 ($29 + $5 S/H) which included 2 to 3 items per month that are a balance of artisan crafted products and small batch, consumable goods and Maven $66.50 ($59 + $7.50 S/H) which includes 2 to 3 items beautifully designed artisan products for home, office and kitchen per month.
MakrBox ships via USPS and took only a few days to arrive. I should also mention that MakrBox also wants to make sure you like your box, so if you are ever unhappy with an item, e-mail them and they will send you something you do enjoy – guaranteed!
I received the Classic Box and liked what I saw in the first look! MakrBox sends individual product information card which give you details on the Makers, the products, the uses and the materials used in the product. Here is what was included:
~San Juan Island Sea Salt ($5): This salt is Washington’s only locally produced salt and uses only solar harvesting to transform seawater into delicious sea salt. With summer coming it means that B will be home more and cooking more and he loves to try all sorts of new salts like this.
~Abeego Designs ($15): Well I have never heard of such a thing! This is made from pure beeswax, jojoba oil and tree resin and is an alternative to plastic wrap. It’s reusable, biodegradable and keeps food fresher longer. So cool and obviously we will be using it the next time we have leftovers. Maybe I’ll so a test and wrap half with plastic wrap and half with this just to see?
~PepperJack Home Produce Bag ($12): This bag is designed to be used instead of those produce bags at the market (I am so guilty of using 8 million of those every time I go to the store) and even packing your lunch in. This is also machine washable, which is key! I will be leaving this in my car so I have it no matter what.
All totaled I came up with a value of $32 for the April 2014 MakrBox. Of course, I didn’t include shipping and you wouldn’t likely be able to find a lot of these items in a local store (at least I wouldn’t be finding them here in MI), so that’s something to keep in mind.
