I mentioned (and posted about it) yesterday, but my Citrus Lane Mystery Box(es) finally arrived! I LOVE their Mystery Boxes, so I was anxiously awaiting their arrival.
If you aren’t familiar, Citrus Lane is a monthly subscription box for babies from 0 to 5 which contains four or more products selected especially for the age and stage of your child. Citrus Lane is $29/month, but if you sign up for a longer subscription, you can get boxes for as little as $19/month (that’s what I do). They also have been offering Mystery Boxes every once in a while, which are also $29 and promise to have a value of $60+. They offered four Mystery Boxes this time and were themed “Bath”, “Mealtime”, “Art” and “Music”. I ordered all four of them (of course I did since I cannot resist a Mystery Box) and I broke them up into two reviews. I did the Bath and Mealtime reviews yesterday (which you can see here) and today’s post includes the Music and Art.
Citrus Lane Music Mystery Box
The Citrus Lane Music Mystery Box was described as containing $60+ worth of items for your little child including a Hohner Tambourine and was designed for those ages 12+months. Here is what was included:
~Hohner Fish Guiro ($8): I am saving most of the contents of this box for a rainy summer day when everyone needs to get a little bit of energy out and be loud and crazy! This will be fun for both boys!
~Green Tones Boat Whistle ($14.99): This may be one of the dumbest ideas I have ever had, but I am going to get another one of these (a train one) so both boys have one. I don’t know how well WB will be able to do it, but L will be able to make enough noise for both of them I am sure!
~Hohner Kids Tube Shaker ($6): I think we have one of these, so I will be passing this one to a friend. And I am sure she will repay me in some way by giving my children some very loud gifts one day down the road.
~Hohner Kids Harmonica ($1.95): We also have received this in the past, but they get kid kind of gross with the kids slobbering all over them, so we’ll use this as a replacement.
~Plan Toys Fish Castanet ($5): I think these are so cute. WB has a few and still plays with them! I’ll add them to the shaker gift for even more musical fun.
~Hohner Kids Colored Tambourine ($12): Love this! I am seriously going to round up all musical toys and put them in a musical bin. It’ll be perfect for rainy days and whenever else the kids have too much energy and want to be loud.
~It’s a Big World by Renee & Jeremy CD ($14): We received one of these in a CL box months and months ago, but I can’t recall ever listening to it. We only have a CD player in the cars, so if this isn’t in the car it’s not getting played. You know what CD’s I think are amazing for kids? The Rockabye Baby ones. We used to play it for WB when he was a baby and it always calmed him down in the car. Still does today actually.
All totaled I came up with a value of $61.94 for the Citrus Lane Music Mystery Box! And just like all the other CL Mystery Boxes I am totally happy. It was well worth the $29 and has me stocked up for gifts and for toys for my boys as well!
Citrus Lane Art Mystery Box
The Citrus Lane “Art” Mystery Box again promised $60+ worth of items for only $29, however, I cannot recall if they announced an item that would be in this box like they did for the others or if they indicated what age group it would be best for. No matter, it’s a Mystery Box and I was ordering regardless! Here is what was included:
~ABC’s by Charley Harper ($8.49): I love this book! I have received it in the past and also gifted it. The illustrations are awesome and it’s a great book.
~Counting with Wayne Thiebaud ($6.29): I am super excited about this one. The illustrations in this one are gorgeous and it’s the perfect length for WB’s attention span.
~Faber-Castell Doodling Pad ($2.49) & Beeswax Crayons ($4.99): I love these crayons and more doodle pads are never a bad thing. WB has been really into coloring lately and L is always into it. I’ll throw these in my bag because we seen to be out of coloring supplies in there.
~Handprint Art Kit from Pearhead (~$9.95): We have a few of these and I just used them as canvases for the kids to paint on. I’m not overly excited by this, but it’s useful for sure.
~Ivy + Bean Paper Doll Set ($12.33): I obviously don’t have a little girl, but I love these. I will end up gifting or trading them, but a part of me wants to keep them to myself to play with.
~Goodbyn Dishwasher Safe Stickers ($4.49): We have a bunch of the Goodbyn bentos (which I love by the way) and I have yet to let L decorate one of them. Maybe it’s time?
~Eco-Kids Dough ($8): Yes! I have been wanting to try eco-dough for ages. I love this, love the colors and can’t wait to order more.
All totaled I came up with a value of $57.03 for the Citrus Lane “Art” Mystery Box. I used internet prices and I am sure they used retail prices when calculating the box value, so I am happy!
Did you get a Citrus Lane Mystery Box? What’d you get in it? These Mystery Boxes are long sold out, however, they do have some Skip Hop Plate & Bowl Mystery Boxes in the shop today! If you are interested in ordering a Citrus Lane subscription, you can click here and try your first box for only $9 using the coupon code “TAKE20OFF“! That’s a great deal so don’t miss out! And if you want to check out the latest Skip Hop Mystery Box (it includes a plate and bowl set from Skip Hop – you pick the animal and the rest is a mystery), make sure to head into the shop tab! If they are still available, you’ll see “Mystery Boxes” in the left sidebar!
My music box had a hand drum and clatterpillar instead of the 2 fish items and whistle you received. I’m happy because we already had the whistle. My art box was the same and I’m happy with it also!
That’s fun that there were different variations!
With the music stuff in a bin-when I student taught kindergarten on rainy days when we had indoor recess the teacher would play “marching band”-kids all got an instrument, then she turned on a cd and we marched all over the classroom, taking turns being the leader. They LOVED it, and it was good for getting out some wiggles!
That’s such a fun idea!!!!

I just came across this and thought of you. Zulily has washi tape on sale!
Ahhh, do I dare look? LOL!!
You should listen to the “It’s a Big World” CD. I was skeptical when we received it in our box, but I put it in the computer one day, and I was surprised at how good it was!
I’ll throw it in the car for tomorrow!
WB should be fine with the whistle. My son got one a few months back and. He loves it. He is only a few months older than WB 🙂 Just had to work with him on standing still and not running around with the thing in his mouth 😉
Ha! That would be another problem with WB!
