I love when I get a subscription box “early” and that’s exactly what happened with B’s May 2014 Birchbox Man box! I got the May box in April! I love it!

The Box

Birchbox Man ships via Newgistics and took, I believe, four days to arrive. Not bad at all.

The Box in the Box

This month was just a normal Birchbox Man (i.e. not a collaboration), so it was the standard Birchbox box. I had peeked in B’s account so I knew what to expect, but B never ever peeks. He likes to go spoiler free for every box!

First Look

B received Birchbox #4 (*) this month. Once again, of the box variations I saw this month (the paragraph at the bottom of this post will explain how to look up your box number, see all the other boxes from this month, etc.) I thought this one fit B perfectly.

The Information Card

The May 2014 Birchbox Man theme is “Good Form” and is all about making thoughtful decisions with your space and routine. Here is what was included:

~COOLA Enviornmental Repair Plus Radical Recovery After Sun-Lotion ($2.66): This lotion is made with allow and agave and is suppose to take the sting out of tired, sunburnt skin. I know B will be needing this over the summer and I am going to make sure I bring it up-north with us because he’s outside, in the sun, all day there.

~Histories dr Parfums 1969 ($4.38): I am not totally sure on the scent on this one (it’s described as blends of rose, patchouli, clove and musk), but the packaging is a total win. I think of the 70’s when I see it, but I suppose 1969 is close enough.

~Plant Face Oil – ØÅ (~$6): This is to be used instead of moisturizer. I know B will test it out, but I don’t know how many uses he’ll be able to get out of it. I think a week’s worth of sample would be ideal. At least them you could tell if something was working.

~Vasanti BrightenUp! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator ($5.66): Ohh, I love this stuff! I received a sample of it in my Birchbox once and was thrilled with it. I even ordered a full size one, which is now finished as well. I should actually order more because I think B will be wanting more as well.

~32 Oral Care Effervescent Breath Treatment ($1.97): I have received these in one of my Birchboxes as well.  They are basically breathe mint Poprocks.  Super fun!  And they work.

~RIADA by Adair Tiebar ($20): HUGE score! B loves this and would totally have bought something like this on his own. It makes the entire box for us. Everything else he received is just a bonus. Awesome awesome!

~Bicycle Cards ($3.99): Birchbox also included a deck of cards to mark the start of their new Aces program. If you aren’t familiar with it, you are automatically enrolled when you earn 500 points within a calendar year. The program gives you free shipping, groom consultations, bonus samples and more! Since B and I have our boxes under the same account and since I buy all those mystery boxes, we are members!

All totaled I came up with a value of $44.66 for the May 2014 Birchbox Man box.  This doesn’t include the including points for doing reviews and purchasing the box itself (**) – which would bring the value up to $52.66!  Birchbox Man is $20/month, as is usually the case, this box was worth more than double the cost.  B’s been loving our boxes lately and I think it has to do with the fact that he’s gotten great lifestyle items (at least great for B anyway)!  I am guessing if you aren’t happy with your lifestyle item, you aren’t as excited about the box as you could be since that’s where the majority of the value is.

Do you get Birchbox Man?  What’d you think of the box this month?  If you are interested in subscribing or just want to learn more, click here.  Birchbox Man has two promotions going on now as well.  You can use the code “BBMANJAWBONE” with your subscription purchase to enter for a chance to win a Jawbone UP24 Wristband or “BBM100” to score 100 Birchbox points, which is equal to $10 to spend in their shop!

(*) If you want to see all the boxes this month, click here and change the 1 at the end to anything from a 2 to 17 since there were 27 (up from last month’s 17 variations) box variations this month. If you can’t figure out which box number you got, login into Birchbox and then Click “Box” and select Men’s or Women’s. Scroll down a bit to were it says “Box History” and click the month of the box (in this case May 2014). The number at the end of the URL is your box number. B’s box ended in “may-2014-bb4″ which means he got box #4.
(**) You only get points for purchasing the box if you buy a prepaid annual subscription (or 3-month, 6-months, etc.). You don’t get points if you are on a month to month subscription.

Awesome box! I have our BB and BB Man under the same account and didn’t realize when I updated the credit card for mine I had to do his too. I’m hoping he will still get a good box.

    1. Jennifer

I hope you do! We really liked that tie clip!

The plant oil should last at least a week if used properly. You literally use about 4 drops of it on a new washed, still damp face. If you use too much, your skin will be greasy.

    1. Jennifer

      It doesn’t have a dropper though…

I’d like to know why all the men get their boxes first! what happened to ladies first? hah!

    1. Jennifer

Ha!! The men’s ship on the 25th for the following month. Ours are what, on the 10th? I think it’s easier to get the men’s ones out because they have less subscribers!

  4. Jen

Seriously, why arent the women boxes this cool??? I would gladly go back to them for this type of stuff!!

    1. Jennifer

I would love if they did a $20 women’s box with a lifestyle item! I’d happily pay the extra $10!

      1. Jen

Me too!! Let’s start a petition!!!

  5. Terri

I wanted to let you know that I am on a month-to-month subscription and always get points for reviewing our boxes.

    1. Jennifer

Yes. You just don’t get the points for actually buying the box. I buy it annually and I get the 200 points or whatever the annual cost is in points is it’s even cheaper.

  6. Bethany

Such a great box! I need to find a way to convince my husband that he wants this! I think he would love that Tiebar! Also, I am like 7 points away from Aces and will probably have to go and buy something tonight to push me over the edge. Maybe I can buy that Tiebar??

    1. Jennifer

Ohh, that would work. You’d benefit and so would he!
