I didn’t get a shipping notice on this one so I totally wasn’t expecting my May 2014 Hazel Lane box to be here this weekend! But it was and I was very excited.
If you aren’t familiar, Hazel Lane sends a carefully curated box of surprise goodies from that month’s selected city that they think represents its spirit. The idea is to give you an affordable way to explore the world without having to leave your house! Items you can expect to see included are food, drink, clothing, accessories and handcrafted items chosen by locals with the environment, social responsibility and CHICNESS in mind. Hazel Lane ships via USPS. I am not too sure how long it took to arrive, but it couldn’t be too long!
I am lucky I opened the box carefully because I wasn’t expecting it to just unfold like this. I wasn’t even paying attention to the first look because I was so surprised by how it opened. But I did appreciate that the packaging was on the “light” side.
The May 2014 Hazel Lane theme was “Gold & Wine Country”! Here is what was included in my “City Explorer” box:
~Billy Sky Jewelry Necklace ($24): These necklaces were crafted just for Hazel Lane by Billy Sky Jewelry, which was started by two friends in Chico, CA. The information card described this as being perfect for festival season and I totally can see that!
~The Girl and The Fig Black Mission Jam ($8): Yum! I knew I had seen this label before and it turns out we got the lavender sea salt from this company last summer in a box. Hazel Lane recommends this with goat cheese and I think we will try it as recommended! And with wine too of course.
~Tote+Able Flask ($16): I was not expecting to receive a flask and I have never seen a cloth flask, but I must admit, this is pretty cool! It’s BPA free and can be used to store your wine or margaritas or whatever! The cap serves as a shot glass and you can also free it and use it as an ice pack! Neat!
~Whole Spice Citrus Herb Seasoning ($6): This is totally a B item. It’s from Napa Valley and can be used in an assortment of dishes.
~Bonus Gift: Brittany Garner Designs Print ($15): I don’t know where I am going to put this, but I plan to figure out a cute spot for it! It’s a 5×7 (I think) so it could nicely work on one of the shelves in my office or even with a few other prints in the kitchen.
All totaled I came up with a value of $54 for the May 2014 Hazel Lane box. The value jumps to $69 if you include the bonus print (which I believe came in all the boxes, but don’t quote me on that)! I love the unique assortment Hazel Lane comes up with (they always stick to the theme and use companies and brands I am not typically familiar with) and I am looking forward to what they do in June when we head to “Portland, Oregon”!
What do you think of Hazel Lane? If you are interested in subscribing or want to learn more, click here. In addition to the City Explorer ($39.99) subscription (which is the one I have), they offer a Mini Explorer ($19.99), the Kids Explorer ($19.99) and a Deluxe Explorer ($59.99). Shipping is additional and you are able to customize the size, gender, etc of the box.
Just received my first box (mini), and all I got was the flask, the print, and a 1oz sample of KRAVE jerky. Very unimpressed with the number of items and the price-point. Their boarding ticket lists the flask as $15, the print as $15, and the jerky as $4. A full-sized bag of the jerky in the store is about $4, so that’s just nuts. I’m really bummed out that I spent $25 on this. Fingers crossed for next month, otherwise I’m going to cancel.
That does seem like a lot for the jerky! I didn’t know that was made in CA.
Hi Amber,
Hope we can clear up any concerns you have about our Wine and Gold Country Box. We did send out the “Single Serving” 1.5 oz bags of Krave Jerky Retail Value $4. The ones you see in the stores are the 3.5 oz size that retail for $7. They do run a little more because they hand cut their jerky and are nitrate, MSG and corn syrup free?and YUMMY ;). We really appreciate you membership and honesty and will make sure that your box next month meets all your expectations.
With Love,
Ash and Sam @Hazel Lane
I love that flask! Probably mostly because it has a pony on it…
Ha! I didn’t even know such a thing existed.
Thank you for the review and awesome flat lays of our jewelry!! Can’t wait to see how you style our Rustic Quartz Point Pendant Necklace!!!! Love your site. ~Billy Sky
It’s gorgeous!
The Girl and the Fig is good stuff! And yeah, you can get all flavors of Krave around here for less than $5 a regular size bag.
I should look and see what they are here!
Ooooh! This box looks so interesting that I hopped on over and signed up for a 3-month Sub. Please tell me I will get this box as my 1st! Great items!!! Kathy
I think you’d get the Portland one, but they might offer this one in their shop if they have extras??
I emailed and asked, they replied and said it was a very popular month and they had ordered extra’s and would be sending off my May box tomorrow! 🙂 Fingers crossed it’s exactly like the one you recieved, I have plans for gifts, as well as liking a few items for myself! :).
Yay!
