May 2014 Socialbliss Style Box

My much anticipated May 2014 Socialbliss Style Box arrived while I was up-north! I seriously had a stack of packages on the porch when we got home last night. And that was only half of the mail I received while I was gone since my Dad picked up the other half before he came up-north!

If you aren’t familiar, the Style Box by Socialbliss, is a brand new fashion, lifestyle and accessories box.Boxes contain items which may be featured on the Socialbliss site, along with others that are emerging hot items not yet available to the public. Boxes are $47.90 ($39.95 plus $7.95 shipping) and promise a monthly value of at least $100.

The Socialbliss Style Box ships via USPS Priority Mail which I LOVE. Boxes always come in two days and pretty much everyone gets their boxes at the same time which is fabulous as well.

First Look

I took a peek at some spoilers while I was gone and was curious to see which variation(s) I received.  The first look didn’t tell me too much!

The Information Card

The May 2014 Socialbliss Style Box didn’t have a stated theme, but I sensed a spa like theme from it.  Here is what was included:

~My Ties Wrist-Bliss Hair Ties ($4): Love this!  It’s cute and stylish and 100% needed around here.  I lose these things like crazy and need to have one (or two in case I lose the first one) with me at all times.

~Izzy & Ali Coin Purse ($9.99): The card says this retails for $39 which I am sure it does, but I saw it on Amazon for $9.99, so I am going with that price.  I love the tassel on this, but I am not totally into the color.  I would have loved a black or a navy, but I will work with the brown!

~The Spa Package ($15): I will use all of these pieces and I am thrilled that it includes a spa headband!  I hate to use a nice headband when I use one of my LUSH masks, but I also hate getting all the in my hair too.  This will solve both of those problems.

~The Creme Shop Lash Lifter ($7): I like that this one is mini for traveling and I also like that it’s not overly expensive so if I happened to leave it somewhere, I wouldn’t be too sad. I like to have a separate travel toiletry bag all packed and ready to go and I will be throwing this in it.

~The Creme Shop Cleansing Towelettes ($3.88): Love these!  I am into all kinds of face wipes for those lazy times when I don’t feel like washing my face, but know I need to do something.

~Fusion Beauty Lift Fusion “Fountain of Youth” ($14.70): The retail price of this one is $140 (you can see that price here), but you can scoop it up on Amazon for $14.70 right now, so of course I went with that price.  This is supposed to pretty much be Botox in a bottle.  I will certainly give it a try, but I really still need to get some Botox booked!

~Bonus Gift: Gleeful Peacock Hair Clip ($12): This was the bonus gift for ordering on Mother’s Day (I think) or entering a code in your existing account on that day.  I really like that they allow current subscribers to take advantage of those proportions as well as new subscribers.  The clip is cute but not totally me, so I will be passing it along to a friend.

All totaled I came up with a value of $62.57 for the May 2014 Socialbliss Style Box.  Had I used retail prices I certainly would have come to the $200+ value Socialbliss valued this box at, but I used current online prices because no one is paying full price when you don’t have to be!  I didn’t necessarily dislike this box, but I also didn’t love it.  I wish that the beauty item didn’t hold so much of the value of the box ($140 of the $209 retail value of the box).  I guess if it really fixes my forehead wrinkles I will eat my words, but we’ll see!

What did you think of the May 2014 Socialbliss Style Box?  What color coin purse did you get?  If you are interested in subscribing (boxes are currently $47.90/month including shipping) click here to get signed up!.  Through the end of the day today (5/26/14) you can use the code “NSSTAR15” to save $15 off a six month subscription!  As I understand it, prices are increasing on 6.1.14 so if you have been wanting to give this one a go, now is the time!

This box looks really fancy! I love the amount of items in it, and the mini eyelash curler!

    1. Jennifer

I didn’t even know there was such a thing as a mini one until today!

      1. Mahdi Martin

Nor did I. One reason I hardly use my curlers is that they’re big and annoying, and hard to travel with. It’s weird to have my lashes not be curly halfway through the day, which is what they do If I don’t do a touch up.

  2. Jenny

Funny eyelash curler story. I don’t use and eyelash curler maybe I should but I don’t so anyway we are on our cruise with my mom and sister and my moms broke. It just came apart and she was flipping out since its an everyday item for her. We actually went into a drugstore type place in Cancun and just bought an eyelash curler. LOL I’m pretty sure the people there thought we were crazy. 🙂 It was not a mini one though and I might even be swayed by the cuteness of the mini one.

    1. Jennifer

OMG that is hysterical. I don’t use it all the time, but I do like it. I can’t believe she was that upset!

  3. Lauren

Oh my, May socialbliss….. WHAAAAAAT happeeeennnned??? I’m not impressed. I was so expecting a purse? Afterall, it’s a fashion box. So I too am a bit taken a back by most of the supposed value coming from a beauty item. Ughh. I’m still going to hang in a keep some sort of faith in social bliss…

    1. Jennifer

I keep putting that product on my forehead expecting to see the lines vanish. Nothing yet….

  4. Bethany

I actually liked this box okay and will use or gift everything, but it does annoy me that they price the items so high when we could get them for so much cheaper! My coin purse is burgundy, but I like it so much I just swapped to get a navy one, too! The thing about SB is that all the boxes until now have been pretty awesome, so it could just be a bad month. Hopefully June will be amazing!

    1. Jennifer

Agreed! I am hoping June is fabulous. I would love to see a summery bag!

  5. Melissa

I’ve seen the MyTies before but I’ve never tried them. Are they better than scrunchies? Beauty Brands has them for $2.50 I think.

    1. Jennifer

I hear scrunchies are making a comeback!

I wasn’t overly impressed with this box – ok that is an understatement – I really kind of hated this box. I know all boxes are going to have “miss” months – but they had set my expectations high. Actually, looking back, I think the first two boxes were by far my favorites and we’ve made a steady decline since those. I’m thinking my budget is about to “free up” this money too – lol.

Overall, I just don’t like skin care in boxes – let alone the main item. The spa kit seems pretty cheap – as in I won’t even gift it cheap (and there is no headband – that was the one thing I was looking forward to as well). My coin purse is burgandy, and I can say it is by far my favorite item in the box. However, its definitely a fall/winter item and not something I can use now. Sigh. Oh well, hopefully this is a “one off” and we’ll go back to the initial quality next month. If not, I’m free to pick something else to try as I think next month or the one after is the last of the three month cycle for me.

    1. Jennifer

OMG there isn’t??? I need to dig into that thing. Now I want a spa headband!

  7. Shawn

I was completely disappointed in this box. Everything was either discounted or discontinued—certainly not on-trend and way not a “Style Box”! This was such a miss, I’m not going to keep my subscription. Maybe they grew faster than they could procure inventory—thinking of the mustard bags some got late in the month of April’s box that seemed out of left field. Either way, the curation of May just didn’t live up to the expectation of a stylish, on-trend sub box.

    1. Jennifer

Wasn’t in love with this either, although I am hoping June is fabulous! I did like that mustard colored bag though!

  8. Gail

Where’s the Style here? I think the first two boxes were great and we?ve made a steady decline since those. I have cancelled my subscription after such disappointment. I actually felt May was just a box of junk I paid too much for.

    1. Jennifer

It wasn’t as good as the other months, I agree!

  9. Mrs. L

I got some of those “my ties” hair things in a different subscription box and I’m now a convert. I used them in Hawaii to put my hair up in the pool. They got wet but they never slipped off, they didn’t pull or mess my hair and I just did a quick rinse at night and they were dry and good to go the next day. Going to use them in the future for working out.

    1. Jennifer

They look cute on your wrist too!

  10. Amy

I was disappointed in the box. It was terrible, honestly.

    1. Jennifer

There have for sure been better ones!

  11. Lin

Just an idea for you. I also received that feather hair clip for entering a promo code. I’m using it as a book mark. Works great. I was happy with the rest of the box. Not as happy as previous boxes but it works. BTW, I LOVE your blog!

    1. Jennifer

Oh that is a really cute idea!!

  12. Ashley

So I know that Socialbliss has been getting a lot of criticism and I was right there with it all…except that my box came today and they exceeded my expectations in a very particular way.

Last month, my box was one of the boxes that shipped suuuuper late. I emailed customer service about the problem and then informed me that my box would contain a mustard colored bag but if I wanted to skip last month because it didn’t ship in time, they would refund my money and put extra goodies in this month’s box. (They seemed aware of the lack of excitement over the yellow bag.) They put an extra pair of earrings and an extra skin care product as well as my freebee from the coupon code – the hair barrette. I really am impressed that they put extra products in my box and replied so quickly to my customer service concern.

That being said, this month’s box really wasn’t great. I’m going to keep it for another month just because of the excellent service, but I’m not sure past that.

    1. Jennifer

They really do have great customer service! Hopefully they can hit it out of the park this month!

  13. Heidi

This was my first . . . and last . . . box from Socialbliss. I got lured in by pics/reviews of the first few boxes only to be extremely disappointed with this one. I cancelled my subscription as soon as I went through the box and took a look at what they sent me (and everyone else). I’m a working professional and subscribed because I wanted to add some style to my wardrobe with some cool accessories, only to end up get a box of beauty products and a coin purse. Besides the lackluster content, the value just wasn’t there for me.

  14. Beth C.

I was very disappointed in this box as a whole. The item that was noted to be valued at $140 has actually been selling on amazon for at least 3 years for only $14. that is a gross exaggeration misadvertisement by Social Bliss and is very shady. In addition, the spa package appears to be a bunch of junk and one hair tie for $4? Those do not sell for $4. The change purse is cute but again not worth the stated value. The true value of this box is barely worth what I paid for it. if I could return it I would but I am not eligible due to their changed return policy. Overall this was a sore disappointment. BOO.

    1. Jennifer

Boo ;(. When I opened the spa package I realized that what I thought was a headband is not a headband. Or if it is, I cannot figure out how it would work.

  15. Chelsea

This was my first socialbliss box and I was so excited because the previous boxes were amazing…Sadly this was not that great of a box…The spa-kit…not one of a kind…i can buy that at a 99 cent store. And the face cream…meh…I have tons of face creams from beauty boxes.
