Yay!  My May 2014 Tyler Florence Fancy Box arrived yesterday!  Sometimes this box doesn’t come until the following month, but it was right on time this month and I was loving it.

Just in case you aren’t familiar, Fancy, which is $39/month plus shipping, has a “regular” Fancy Box full of cool goodies and celebrity curated boxes which include a collection of the coolest products hand-picked by Jennifer Love Hewitt, Verbal, Kelly Rowland, Coco Rocha, Snoop Dogg, T-Pain and / or Tyler Florence. They also offer a Fancy Food Box (which is one of my favorites), as well as, Fancy Mystery Boxes.

The Box

Fancy Box ships via FedEx.  I believe this box shipped on a Friday and arrived on Wednesday.  The weekend + the holiday made this box take longer than the usual two days.

First Look

The first look was pretty empty.  I know that doesn’t really mean much (except that the items we receive are smaller), but I still always think the box isis somehow missing something because it’s so empty.  I have said it before and I will say it again, but I think that Fancy should get different sized boxes.

The Information Card

The May 2014 Tyler Florence Fancy Box did not have a theme, but included the following items:

~Fish Turner ($12): We have a similar one of these that B uses for cooking so I think I am going to steal this away to get cookies on and off the cookie sheet.  I

~Cherry  Olive Pitter ($15): I have no use at all for this and expected B to think the same, but he was really excited about this.  He says that now he can make cherry pie because it will be very easy to get the pit out.  You can probably expect to see a picture of his cherry pie fairly soon.

~Art and Cook Herb Mill ($20): Super cool.  You put your fresh herbs in here, twist and book, you have fretted ground herbs!  B is also super excited to try this, so I hope that one of our next recipes includes some fresh herbs.

~Sourdough Starter ($13): I don’t know that I have ever made bread from scratch or I guess any type of bread at all (well maybe banana bread), but B and I both agreed we wanted to try this.  It will be ready to use in baking in 3-5 days and then we’ll be baking.

~Avocado Spoon ($10):  I can honestly say that I have never wished for a special spoon for an avocado.  A normal spoon works totally fine!  But since this is here, I will use it.  Probably for avocados and to let WB and L mixed things up with.

~Cheese Paper ($9): Cheese paper is suppose to keep your cheese fresher longer.  We don’t currently have any fancy cheese to test this out with, but I am thinking a night with fancy cheese, grapes and that sourdough bread might be pretty good.

All totaled I came up with a value of $78 for the May 2014 Tyler Florence Fancy Box!  Not my favorite box ever (although I think it was right up there as one of B’s favorites), but according to B, we will use everything in this box so that is awesome!

Aren’t they supposed to have an $80+ value? I’m getting this box too, and it seems like there should have been one more small item. I might email them and see what they say.

    1. Jennifer

I bet they would say something about it being retail prices?

  2. Berit

I’ve had good luck with the cherry pitter, but not with the herb grinder.

I’ll report back (or have B report back) after he uses it!

Considering this is for now my 2nd and last Tyler Florence box, I’m not impressed. I will keep the herb mill because I bought a fresh herb keep from Fancy during their 24 hour sale. I decided to only keep my Coco box.

    1. Jennifer

Did you get anything else during that sale? I was thinking about it but then I forgot!

    2. Sara

Do you like the COCO box? I cant decide between the tyler florence, coco, or JLH

As usual, TF Fancy Box doesn’t disappoint! At least in my opinion. I didn’t feel the same about regular Fancy Box, but this one for sure. I just love that with TF you get things that are a little unique that make you realize how many cool things you can make! Will definitely plan to resubscribe once we get settled after our move!

You are going to be going box crazy when you move!

Haha seriously. I should probably prepare myself to exercise some degree of self-control…

I use a regular spoon for Avocado too but is the wooden spoon supposed to help browning or something? Like when you use a plastic knife with iceburg lettuce? I’ve never used a cherry pitter either and have no desire to make a cherry pie so I guess I’m good. LOL However I do have an apple corer and I make apple pies so I guess it goes the same way.

      I don’t know? I wonder???

I’m always fascinated by this box, but I haven’t a clue as to why since I already have most everything they send out. Or I don’t need it in the first place. I think it’s a great idea though if you have someone in your life that’s either starting out on their own or is now getting into cooking. We have way too many people out there who proudly state that they burn water and only make reservations.

If it weren’t for my husband I would be like that! I just don’t enjoy it like he does!
