I got “a few” (okay like a dozen) subscription boxes today and one of the first ones I opened was Baxter and Buddy’s June 2014 Barkbox!
If you aren’t familiar, BarkBox is a monthly subscription box for dogs! Each monthly box contains a combination of 4-6 treats, toys, and hygiene products that have been hand selected and approved by Scout, head product tester for BarkBox. We’ve been getting for nearly two years and are always quite happy with it.
Barkbox ships via DHL Global Mail and took maybe three days to arrive this month? It was very quick and I was actually surprised to see it today.
I guessed the theme on this one right away and was very excited about it. Doesn’t everything look cute?
The June 2014 Barkbox was “Bone Jour” and centered on giving your pup the trip of a lifetime with no planes, passports or jet lag required. Here is what was inside:
~Harry Barker Eiffel Tower ($10): OMG how fancy and cute is this? It’s made out of a sturdy canvas which is good because that means it will last the furries forever. They will never get to go to Paris and see the Eiffel Tower, but this is clearly the next best thing.
~Harry Barker Toile Bone ($10): I am cracking up because it took me a few minutes to realize that the heads of these things on here were dogs and not people. LOL. I love it. This is made with the same heavy canvas as the Eiffel Tower so it too will last forever.
~Bocce’s Bakery Chicken Cordon Bleu ($6): My dogs don’t usually love bones, but I handed them these when the box arrived and surprisingly they gobbled them right up. They must have realized they were fancy “french” like bones ;).
~FeelGood Treat Co. Parisian Heart Biscuits ($6): I can’t find these online, so I just used the price on the card. I have to tell you, if I would have come across this package at a makeup counter, I would have bought it. It seems like it could house a fancy palette or something like that. But really it holds three giant heart shapes dog cookies! I broke one up and gave it to Baxter and Buddy, but I can’t tell if they ate or just hid it around the house somewhere (they like to do that).
All totaled I came up with a value of $32 for the June 2014 Barkbox. I totally loved this box and I thought the theme was very well done! This box ranks right up there with the “Breakfast” themed box they did a while back that was awesome too. According to the information card, you can now also text Barkbox with the item code (they are listed on the information card) if you want to reorder anything from the box. I haven’t done it yet, but it sounds super easy and convenient.
Do you subscribe to BarkBox? What’d you think of this month’s box? If you want to subscribe or learn more, click here. A monthly subscription is $29/month, but if you opt for a longer subscription, the price drops as low as $18/month (that’s what I get)! And you can use the code “RAMBLING” save 15% off ANY subscription plan which would make it an even better deal!
This is one of the cutest themes that I’ve seen for barkbox!! Love the Eiffel towel toy! How cute! Can’t wait to get mine 🙂
So cute!!!!
This is my first box that I received from the Groupon deal. I received the March box – same card, same treats, different toys than what you posted in the March box post. I’m not sure how I feel about this. I would have loved to receive this box because of the theme. The box shipped Thursday and arrived Saturday. The tracking information email arrived after I received the box.
Someone else mentioned this as well! Did the Groupon have any fine print?
I looked at my Groupon and saw nothing that indicated that I would receive an old box. I have a blue card with a cartoon dog saying, “Ugh, Mornings.” with a breakfast theme description next to it. Here are the contents of my box which is for a medium size dog:
1. Bakers Best Wild Pacific Maple Glazed Salmon and Blueberries 4 ounce which the cats promptly ate.
2. Loopies Specter Floppy durable alien squeaking fetch toy for dogs. My bigger dog hid it from the smaller dog.
3. Safemade Safechew biggie bone for tough chewers. I need to fill it with peanutbutter.
4. Wagathas Breakfast Biscuits – decent size box. I put them in the biscuit container and forgot to look at the size.
5. Package of Twistix. Dogs love them.
The value is there for the box. My furbabies are content. I love the theme of the June box and am disappointed that I am missing out on it because of the Groupon.
It also makes me wonder what my other two boxes will contain.
I wrote a long reply and never indicated I checked the fine print. Nothing in the fine print indicated I would receive an older box.
What size dogs do you have? I did really like that breakfast themed box! But maybe it’s different because your dogs are heavy chewers?
English Shepherd and a Rat Terrier. I have no reason to be unhappy except I love the theme of this month’s box.
I had bought a GroupOn for BarkBox and while I do have a larger dog, I noticed that the items were not themed like yours. No description card. I also did not get as many items. This is making me wonder if they did GroupOn boxes. I always think it’s crappy when companies do that.
I wonder if there was any fine print on the Groupon about getting stuff from prior boxes?? I know some of the boxes do that?
Jennifer, I just read the fine print on the groupon and no info about it being different from the standard box. My dog still likes the treats and it is still over the value that I paid. So, I can’t really complain at the end of the day. Your stuff is just adorable. I’m just jealous 🙂
I think my only disappointment is that I expect full disclosure. If I wasn’t buying what everyone else was, they could have said so.
I would also want to know!
I also got the groupon deal, but got the normal box. I’m on my second month, and no complaints. FYI, i had the medium size box though. Maybe it’s an issue with the larger one? Try contacting barkbox about it, i’ve heard they’re really good about customer support.
Hi Jennifer,
Do you get the small or medium box? My dog is right around 20 pounds so I went with medium… Wondering if I will get this same box! Too cute!!!!
I get the small one!
How big are your dogs?
I think Buddy is 10lbs and Baxter is 12.
Fingers crossed we get the same items, as I love this box! Will probably get something else as we get the medium box, but I love those toys!
Let me know!
I got the groupon offer too and I received this same box today. I got the same one as you last month as well so I don’t think the groupon deal plays a factor in what you get.
Interesting. Do you get a small dog box?
Yes!
I have a “big dog” box and we received the exact same red ball toy this time and last month. We had two new treat bags and a duplicate freezer treat. We’ve had barkbox for over a year and this is the first time I have been disappointed in what we received.
Someone else just posted they got duplicate toys and e-mailed Barkbox who gave them a credit on their account. It might be worth a try?
We also received our “big dog” box today and received repeat items. Even our theme card “Fetched fresh from the farm” is the same as last month (some different products) and does not have re-order codes with the product descriptions. I would estimate the value around $25, which is much less than previous months. Barkbox is known for its customer service, so we will be contacting them to make them aware of our disappointment this month.
This is strange. It sounds like a mixup to me. I get the large box and got the same as Jennifer’s except for a different treat. I expect Jennifer got the small dog size toys because mine are pretty huge. I actually get two boxes, and they were identical, but that is not always the case. Sometimes there is a slight variation in them.
I liked our box this time. We got the Eiffel tower toy, the ccb bones and quiche Loraine cookies. Also got a tug and toss ball, after opening the box I got an email that they noticed they sent the same toy from 2 months ago and put a credit on my account. They have also had great customer service when I have needed something.
That is good to hear!
I get the big box, and requested the heavy chewer option through email. Definitely no theme (at least that I noticed) and totally different items. All were great, though–my dog LOVES all his goodies, so no complaints!
So is that what you do to request this? Can you tell me what you got? I have one girl who is easy on her toys, but my boy chews any soft toys up to destroy the squeaker so we can’t have nice things.
I have a small dog too and did not receive the Paris themed Barkbox for June. I got a baboon butt toy and tree frog toy. The treats were Healthy Dogma banana chips and freeze dried liver.
Interesting!! Did yours have a theme at all?
This was my first month trying Barkbox, and I bought the Groupon for a 6 month subscription. Our theme was different then yours. What is strange is that the pricing for the treats/toys and the code numbers were not on the card (like how yours has it) Although, my pup loves the treats and toys that came in the box, but it doesn’t seem like the price of this month for us added up. =/ I ordered the Large dog box because she is a black lab. In the box was a MegaLast Ball from JW Pet that you can put treats in (or at least we put peanut butter in the holes), Mac and Cheese flavored treats from Bocce’s, Healthy Dogma treats, and only One Mr. Barksmith’s Carrot Cake smoothie. Did anyone get a similar box? Does this sound like one that was given a few months ago? Like other people who have posted, I do not want to receive second hand/old treats and gifts just because they couldn’t sell them. I am someone who will continue to subscribe after these 6 months are over, as long as i don’t feel like i am getting jipped or ripped off. Hopefully next month is similar to your box Jennifer!
Watch using groupon if referring someone for the free boxes…my daughter signed up they sent me this:
A furry friend just signed up for BarkBox using your referral link.
That means you got two FREE extra months added to your subscription! #HighPaws
And now refuse to send the boxes because she used a groupon…Poor customer service
by the way my first box was also old and they said its just the way they ship……not everyone will get the same box…….
This box looked amazing, I can tell why you loved it!
