If you aren’t familiar with them, Mantry (aka the Modern Man’s Pantry) is a food of the month club that lets you discover the finest american artisan foods – and gives you ideas of what to do with them.  At $75/month it’s a spendy box for sure, but B totally totally loves it.

The Box

Mantry ships via UPS Sure Post.  It typically starts out as UPS and is then delivered by USPS.  This month, however, UPS delivered my Mantry.  I had a few other items coming via UPS so they brought them all together and we got our crate a day early!

First Look

I tried to left the Mantry crate out of the box this month and pulled the sides of it right off. Oops!  I was so focused on the fact that I broke the Mantry crate that I didn’t even pay attention to the first look.

The Information Card

The June 2014 Mantry theme was “Salty Dog” and included the following six products inspired by the sea:

~Butter & Sea Salt HalfPops ($4.29): These are really good.  In fact I remember being surprised about how good they were the first time I tried them.  B too.

~White Whale The Filthy Liar Bold Mixer ($12): This mixer is supposed to be mixed with equal parts gin to great a perfect summer cocktail.  I am not a big fan of gin, but I am sure B will be happy to try this.

~Coop’s Hot Fudge ($10.99): So so good.  We have gotten this in a past Mantry and loved it.  Mantry suggests this with their Hot Fudge Banana Split which happens to be topped with Halfpops!  I am not totally sure what I think about that idea, but we will all be happy to eat this on some kind of ice-cream!

~Bar Harbor New England Style Clam Chowder ($4): This is another past Mantry item. B enjoyed it and will enjoy it again, but I am sure he would prefer a new item.  Or some sort of beef jerky if it’s going to be a past item.

~Island Trollers Albacore Tuna ($6.25): I can honestly say that I wasn’t expecting this can to be so expensive!  However, when I read about Island Trollers further I learned that this tuna is caught one at a time in the U.S. and is sashimi grade albacore. I can only hope that B shares this with me!

~Liddabit Sweets Sea Salt Caramels ($8): Delicious! We got the “Beer and Bacon” flavor or these from Mantry before and I have tried a few of their other varieties in previous boxes as well. They are all good! I do think that the sea salt is my favorite of the bunch though!

All totaled I came up with a value of $45.53 for the June 2014 Mantry box.  Of course that doesn’t include shipping for the items because I know not all of them are sold in my local area, but I still wish that the value was higher.  And maybe that they didn’t do repeats so often?  Unless they were beef jerky of course.  That would be just fine with B!
