Nerd Block Jr.

I walked out to the mailbox not expecting much mail, but I was shocked to find that it was packed full of subscription boxes! That’s what I like to see ;). And one of those boxes was L’s Nerd Block Jr.
Nerd Block Jr. is a monthly surprise box for kids! It’s is specifically designed for children (you can opt for a Boys Block or a Girls Block) aged 6-11 and is filled with toys and games just for them. They also offer an adult box for $29.49/month (that includes shipping). This Block is a Boys one for L, who is 6.
Nerd Block Jr. ships from Canada and took about a week to arrive. I received three boxes today from out of the country and I actually think they all took about a week.
I couldn’t see much in the first look, but I knew right away that L would like this box. I always mention it, but Nerd Block Jr. doesn’t have an information card. The contents are, however, listed on the customs sticker on the front of the box. Here is what was included in the June 2014 Nerd Block Jr. (Boy) box:
~Star Wars Darth Maul’s Mission ($3.99): L loves Star Wars and Legos and books, so this is awesome.
~Dragons Defenders of the Berk (Toothless Night Fury) ($8.97): I am guessing that this is from the movie How to Train Your Dragon? I have never seen it, but L has so he’ll know all about it!
~Mega Blocks Spider-Man Racer ($6.99): Totally a Quiet Box item for L. He’s still up-north so he hasn’t seen it and I was easily able to sneak away. He loves his Quiet Boxes and loves seeing what I put in them! And I love putting them together for him.
~Mega Blocks The Smurf’s Blind Pack ($2.99): I so want to open this and see what guy L got, but I am going to restrain myself and left him open it when he gets back. He likes these blind packs just as much as I do!
~Angry Birds Eraser ($1): I didn’t know what this was at first. I mean I knew it was an eraser, but I didn’t know what the character was. It’s Angry Birds! L will know.
All totaled I came up with a value of $23.94 for the June 2014 Nerd Block Jr. (Boy) box. It’s always just a bit over the cost of the box, but this is such an perfect box for L. He loves the craft boxes, but this is just a box of fun. Kind of like PopSugar is for me!

You need to see How to Train Your Dragon! It’s a great movie – one of my favorite animated ones. The sequel that’s in theaters now is really good too.
It’s totally possible we have it on dvd. I should look…
We just saw the movie the other day when it was on the tv. N had seen with but M and I hadn’t. Now N says he wants to see the sequel. Maybe I’ll send him with my brother when we are down in Charlotte this weekend. LOL
That’s perfect!
My 5 year old would love this box. I think I will buy him a July box if the 15 year old decides he wants a July lootcrate.
did they announce the theme for the July loot crate yet?
No. It seems as though it is usually announced in the beginning of the month. I only know this because my teen wanted to know when it is announced. Their Facebook page states that the July box will have a t-shirt and 2 items unlike anything they had in the past. The little guy was unhappy that his older brother would not share his box with him.
My son is 11 years old. he was utterly disappointed in this box. My daughter on the other hand, is 3 and LOVED hers (Minnie mouse pictures + markers in place of spider-man toy, rest is same) but she got a CHAPTER book in her box (for girls).
Seems like Nerd Block Jr. can’t find a middle ground for the box. The age ranges are so vast for this box that to include a book is high risk – either you get a book you can save for years until your kid can read it, or you get one so under aged that it isn’t worth the paper it is printed on.
That is hard to do a box for that big of an age group. Maybe they will eventually separate into older / younger age groups??
Maybe but it would make sense from a financial point of view. The box is relatively new though so maybe they’re adjusting. I think that giving books is a novel (pun!) idea but they need to be careful what kind they add. Maybe both? I wouldn’t mind both types of books in place of that surf thing which is borderline useless beyond the figure itself.
