June 2014 Hatchery

Hatchery Tasting Box, who kindly sent me this box to review, is a monthly subscription box which brings curated, sample-size artisan ingredients and condiments to your doorstep. Each month you will receive 5-6 hand selected artisan ingredients, as well as, exclusive member promotions and discounts.

The Box

My Hatchery was a review box and shipped via FedEx, however I am not sure if other boxes ship the same way.  Hopefully a subscriber can let us know.

First Look

I absolutely love how everything is all packaged and wrapped.  Everything is safe, but it also has a fantastic presentation which I totally appreciate.

The Information Card

The May 2014 Hatchery Tasting Box doesn’t have a theme, however, every box does come with a fabulous Tasting Guide.  The Tasting Guide includes brand and product information for each of the items in the box along with a online recipe using the sample sizes included in the box.  I think it’s awesome that they not only tell you what everything is and what it would be good with, they go the next step and give you recipes so you don’t have to go hunting for them!  Here is what was inside:

~Toasted Coconut White Balsamic Vinegar and Tahitian Lime Olive Oil by Olivelle: Hatchery recommends that these be used in Tahitian Lime Gelato which is something I never would have even thought of.  It looks good though so maybe when B gets back we’ll make this happen.

~Stuart & Co. Beef Rub: I was thinking we could just use this on something on the BBQ, but then I saw Hatchery’s idea of a Spice-Rubbed BLT with Bacon and Avocado. I don’t even love bacon and I am all over this.  All over it.

~King Knish Five Spice(y) Ketchup: Alone this is just too much heat for me! I am not even sure I could handle it in the recommended lamb burgers.  Frankly I am not even sure I could handle lamb burgers, although they do look really really good.

~The French Connection Lori’s Salt Caramel Syrup: So the recommended use for this is grilled peaches with greek yogurt, but I am thinking of this + pancakes would be amazing.  Or even their other recommend use which is banana cupcakes with salt caramel frosting!

~Heidi’s Salsa Happy Medium Salsa: I was worried that this would be too spicy for me, but it’s not.  It’s more than the normal level of spice I like (which is just about none), but I thought it was good.

I didn’t do a cost breakdown on Hatchery, but at $25/month I feel like that is a very fair price for not only the samples, but also for the recipes and suggestions on what to do with your samples!  This way nothing goes to waste and you get to sample the items while trying a fabulous new recipe.
