July 2014 Austin Lloyd

When I saw that Austin Lloyd was on Plum District a while back I decided to buy a voucher and get another box!  I have tried them in the past and have always been happy, but at $49.99/month they are a little pricey so I had taken a few months off from them.

In case you aren’t familiar, Austin Lloyd, is a subscription box of educational toys for children under 3. They aim to take the guess work out of choosing toys that your child will enjoy, while also gaining skills that aide in their overall development. Each box contains 4-5 educational toys and typically at least one book.

The Box

Austin Lloyd ships via USPS Priority Mail (which I love) and took only a few short days to arrive.

First Look
Second First Look

As you can see, Austin Lloyd has some of the best packaging out there.  You can’t see anything in the first look which is wrapped up almost like a gift (and would make a perfect gift).  But once you left that cardboard you get to see the actual goodies in the box.

The Information Cards

The box included a general information card about the Play Level (we selected 2-3 years of age for WB – you can read more about them here) of the box which gives some general information on how your child is playing at this age, as well as, individual information cards.  The July 2014 Austin Lloyd box theme was “Treasure Hunt” and included the following items:

~Bizzy Bear Pirate Adventure ($6.29): Super cute book!  It’s interactive and has sliders for your little ones to push and pull.  Luckily they seem to be pretty sturdy because WB has been known to destroy a book or two.  He doesn’t expect mean to destroy it, I think it just happens.

Bizzy Bear Pirate Adventure

~Swashbucking Sidekicks by Manhattan Toy ($17.99): Look at these little guys!  They are little finger puppets and will work for your little one to put on a show or for you to entertain your little one with.  I am thinking L, WB and I will each get one and all play together!

Swashbucking Sidekicks

~HABA Sieve ($5.99): The information card says that this is a small sieve and is valued at $3.19, but it’s actually a “wave sieve” and is $5.99.  Anyway, we have a yellow one just like this and it’s super study and doesn’t fade.  At least it hasn’t so far.  We always need more sand toys (and having two of the same of every sand toy is always helpful with the boys), so this is great.

Small Sieve

~Petit Collage Ocean Babies Beginner Puzzle ($14): We actually have this puzzle, so I will likely end up trading / gifting it.  WB can do the smaller ones, but is still working his way up to the 6 piece one!

Ocean Babies Beginner Puzzle

~Bannor Toys Under the Sea Matching Game ($26): Obviously someone knows we need help with our matching skills because this is the 3rd matching set we’ve received this month!  Totally not Austin Lloyd’s or any of true other box’s faults.  I get a bunch of boxes and this totally fits the age group WB is in.  He’s going to be a matching pro soon!

Under the Sea Matching Game

All totaled I came up with a value of $60.27 for the July 2014 Austin Lloyd box. Austin Lloyd is $49.99/month (although I think I got to for 1/2 off with the voucher) so it was over the cost of the box.  However, I wasn’t totally wowed by it.  Maybe because we already had a few of the things or because the value wasn’t incredible?  I’m not sure.  We will certainly use everything and I have to say, Austin Lloyd does themes very well!  The pirate / treasure hunt theme was totally clear to me and I really liked it.
