Another one of the monthly subscriptions that arrived when I was away was my July 2014 ipsy bag. I don’t know if it’s more fun to have a giant stack of packages to open at once or if it’s better to have a steady flow of boxes coming in daily. I think I might like them both equally ;).

If you aren’t familiar, ipsy is $10/month and sends its members a beautiful Glam Bag with 4-6 deluxe samples and full-sized beauty products. Their bags always have an incredible value (well over the $10 cost) and I am always amazed at how they do it.

The Package

ipsy ships via DHL Global Mail and took five days to arrive to me.  That seems to be about the norm for them.

The Information Card

The July 2014 ipsy Glam Bag them was “Sensationally Sunkissed” and included the following products to keep you looking your best during summer’s brightest days and warm long nights:

~bareMinerals 5-in-1 BB Advanced Performance Cream Eyeshadow Broad Spectrum SPF 15 ($5.40): Super cool.  I love how cream shadows go on and how different they are from traditional (or traditional to me anyway) pressed shadows.

~Elizabeth Mott Tints & Sass ($22.99 for .35oz):  My bag was missing this ;(.  I haven’t e-mailed ipsy yet, but I am sure they will take care of it.  I think this was the item I was most excited for in my bag this month too!

~Pur~lisse pur~protect Essential Daily Moisturizer spf 30 ($16.18): This is another product I am seeing everywhere lately.  This will be the one I use for traveling.  It’s not my favorite pur~lisse product (I am a big fan of their lip balm), but it’s right up there!

~Sexy Hair Get Layered Flash Dry Thickening Hairspray ($2.91): I was really excited to get this in my ipsy, but I am not totally sure why.  I have so many hair sprays I need to use up first so I totally don’t “need” this.  But still, I am happy I received it.

~wHet Nail Polish in Facetious ($9): LOVE!  Because nail polish is exactly what I need.  LOL!  If you put a nail polish in a box, chances are I am going to like it.  I actually almost bought a bag this color yesterday, but I went with hot pink instead.

~The Bag: I think ipsy has been stepping it up big time with their bags lately.  I have been super happy with the last few and this one is adorable as well.  I like the scallop trim on the side and think it will be a great little pouch for my beach bag.

All totaled (not including the Elizabeth & Sass sample) I came up with a value of $33.49 for my July 2014 ipsy Glam Bag.  I would have included the sample, it would have been a larger value, but I wasn’t totally sure what size that sample was.  Even without it (but assuming it’s coming), I was really pleased with my bag this month and even more so when I saw what some of the other products in this month’s box were.  Although I wouldn’t have minded that Benefit mascara or the Models Own polish!  I can always trade for that though.  I believe there were 21 different products that went out and everyone received 5?

Did you get this month’s ipsy bag? What variations did you get? And what’d you think? If you are interested in subscribing or interested in learning more, click here.

Ha! Guess where else the Purlisse is in an even tinier sample this month.. Citrus Lane! ;p

I cannot believe how much they are trying to push this one out …

Ahhhh I got one of my CL’s today and there it was! Someone obviously thinks I need that!

  2. Jaclyn

I also get CL and received the sunscreen in that box 🙂 my ipsy had a bright pink balm (not a fan), big sexy beach spray (not a fan), pop bronzer, the bare minerals eyeshadow and tanning oil. Do you have any trading site recommendations?

    1. Jennifer

Are you on MSA (My Subscription Addiction’s) swap site??

      1. Jaclyn

No, but I will check it out, thanks!

while i enjoy reading your blog, i wish you’d give a bit more info on the products in the sub boxes, especially the beauty ones. you never swatch or swipe things so we can see colors. I understand that you might not do that with something that you are going to swap or trade, but just repeating what’s written on the inserted card isn’t much of a “review.” How about buying some of the nail swatch sticks and showing your nail polishes like that? I dunno, it’s just kind of bleh. i find myself drawn to blogs that actually show colors, show it on their skin, and have a more in-depth review. Just some thoughts. thanks for reading.

I totally hear what you are saying. I don’t really consider myself a “beauty” blogger though. I more review the actual boxes / bags, show values, etc as opposed to the actual products in them. Of course I will give my thoughts, but I you are totally right, it’s not in depth. Hopefully that makes sense? But the nail polish thing would be easy to do – esp. since I keep ALL of those! I will work on that! Thanks for reading!

I would love that too, I don’t expect you to use everything, but maybe posting after you use/eat/try your favorite product from a box would make it even more enticing (and maybe if sometimes you said bad things as well as good things about products after seeing if the products you’re getting fit/taste good/work, you’d have even more people choosing boxes based on your descriptions of them, if that would be something you wanted).

Trust me I have thought about this a lot and went back and forth on it many times (and still do)! I think of a box review as different than a product review. In that what comes in the box is going to change every month so by the time you read a review on a box and sign up, it’s probably too late to get that exact box. And the box next month will have all different items. Maybe better. Maybe not (all depending on your preferences of course).

So you are more or less getting an idea of what types of items / sizes that box is going to send and what kind of bang for your buck you are getting (I have found that boxes are generally fairly consistent).

Hopefully that makes sense! But I will for sure work on doing a better job of clarifying when I do use something. Like I tested the cream shadow in this one, but as I am reading it back it so doesn’t sound like I did! It just sounds like I like cream shadows!

I’m kinda bummed about my bag this month, and to top it off i received the pixi balm, but the cap was off and just floating around the bag so i have no desire to use the balm with not knowing what it was exposed to! Oh well, i suppose.

    1. Jennifer

      You should e-mail them!

I’m jealous you already got your Ipsy. This month mine is late!!! I wish their shipping times were more consistent but I love this subscription.

    1. Jennifer

DHL is wild. Sometimes it takes 2 days, sometimes 2 weeks. You just never know.

  6. Susan

I got my ipsy yesterday also, and got the exact same items. That’s odd, because normally I get 2 or 3 things different than you do, but identical this month. More purlisse, again… (sigh). I saw another person comment about that, and the Revlon mascara. I think I’ve gotten 3 of each now. They are really pushing those products.

    1. Jennifer

Oh totally pushing them. But I will never have to actually buy them because I already have so many!

  7. Sasha

Instead of the cream shadow I got the pressed duo which I love, I got the models own polish, the pixi tint which is super cool, the purlisse and a blemish sample. They had amazing selection this month. The only thing is and maybe it’s because last month was my first and I got spoiled with a great glam bag but I find this months cheaply made, childish in design and just a poor choice. I hear that this is the kind of materiel they usually use…. I hope not.

    1. Sara

I would say material-wise the bags are across the board. Canvas, satin, translucent pink plastic, a kind of quilted pleathery fabric, etc!
