Nina Garcia Quarterly
Cost: $100/quarter
Ships To: United States.
I have been stalking tracking my first ever Nina Garcia Quarterly Co. box like a mad woman and I was thrilled when I saw that it was out for delivery today. And even more thrilled when it appeared on my porch!
If you aren’t familiar, Quarterly is a new way to connect with the people you follow and find interesting. Quarterly Co. offers subscription boxes (which are shipped on a quarterly basis) from well known curators which are filled with things they love. I opted for the Nina Garcia Quarterly Co. box as my first box from Quarterly. She’s the creative director at Marie Claire and I have really liked the picks from her previous boxes. Her box is $100/quarter and the next shipment is in September 2014. Prices vary for other curators, but generally range from $50 – $100/quarter.
The Nina Garcia Quarterly Co. box ships via USPS. I received tracking information on July 2nd and it arrived just 5 days later. I had heard that the last set of boxes (from #NGQ02) took much longer to arrive once they shipped so I am super happy with the time frame.
I totally knew what was coming in the box, but I didn’t know what variations I was going to receive. The first look though told me nothing! I didn’t realize that everything came individually wrapped and I enlisted B to help me dig into everything so that the process would go more quickly.
The Nina Garcia Quarterly Co. box doesn’t include just a little information card. Rather, it’s a six page letter from Nina about why she selected the items she did, a little background on the items, etc. Here are her summer picks for the #NGQ03 box:
~SPƎNGLISH “Muito Cool” Baseball Hat (~$30): Hmm. I never wear baseball hats (they do not look cool on me like they do on some people) and the design of this so isn’t me. I will pass this on to a friend who is much cooler than I am and will look fabulous in it.
~Koku Myrto Clutch ($108.75): I couldn’t find this exact clutch online either, but I found a super close one so I am going with that price. When I first saw the spoilers for this I thought it was just a plastic fish. But it’s actually a plexiglass shark, which makes it much more interesting. And the fringe is super fun too! I have seen a few variations of this bag and I think the one I received is my favorite. I still kind of want a few others as well though.
~Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Spray Sunscreen SPF 30 ($10.79): I know not everyone was happy about the drugstore brand being in this box, but I don’t mind. We go through so much sunscreen around here that an extra bottle is always welcome.
~Surya Brasil Sapien Women Shavel Gel ($20.39): Although this is a women’s shave gel, I will probably end up giving it to B to shave his chest with. I never use a shaving cream on my legs because I can never tell the difference between using it and not using it. Maybe I am just using the wrong stuff?
~JOICO K-Pak Intense Hydrator Treatment ($16): I haven’t been using all my fancy haircare treatments like I should be so this is great timing. It’s a good reminder to start taking better care of my hair so it’s not all crazy. I will be using this tonight!
~ORIBE Dry Texturtizing Spray ($21.50): Ohh, I love this stuff! I still have some left from the one that came in the Neiman Marcus PopSugar box, but this one will be awesome for traveling. This is something that I would splurge on, but getting it included in subscription boxes is even better.
~Calvin Klein ONE Pure Color Lipstick (Entice) ($16): Totally a SIL item. She gets all the lipstick I receive and loves it. I think last time I saw her she had about 10 different tubes in her purse. The packaging on this reminds me of a giant pill, but I like it!
~Formula X from Sephora Nail Color (Push the Limits) ($10.50): I am not sure if I have never tried Formula X from Sephora? It seems crazy to think that I haven’t, but I didn’t see any when I was organizing my polishes and since we all know I don’t ever finish an entire bottle that probably means I haven’t. I think this color is great and I am happy to give it a try.
~Isla Saona Palm Tree Clutch from PRINT ALL OVER ME (~$20): I can’t find this actual clutch on-line, but I found the print in some other designs and kind of guessed at the price from there. Totally love this pouch and while it’s fairly similar to the one from the PopSugar Summer Box, I don’t mind. They work for the beach, to organize your bag, to hold your planner supplies, pretty much anything.
~Red Flower Refreshing Hand and Face Towelette (Italian Blood Orange) (Sample): I like Red Flower candles, but I wasn’t aware that they had a skincare line. I am going to need to check that out further.
~Symmetry Series Brazilian Pop! Otterbox case for iPhone 5/5s or Galaxy S5 (Coupon Code) ($49.95): Happily I have an iPhone 5 so I will be able to use this. It was designed by Nina Garcia with Otterbox to celebrate the spirit of Brazil. I have never owned an Otterbox, but it’s probably about time since I drop my phone constantly.
~MELISSA Shoe Ornament ($30): According to MUT, these shoes were launched as collectible items to celebrate some new collaborations the brand MELISSA is doing with various artists and architects right now on the design of their shoes. I am kind of obsessed with this little shoe and am hopeful that I can trade for all of the other designs. In addition to the black one that I received, I believe there is a white, a gold and a pink? They are so not cute that they are cute to me!
~Frends ELLA Headphones ($99): I should not be trusted with such expensive headphones. I am going to have to make these at home only ones so that if they get lost I know that they are here somewhere! I tested them quickly and can’t tell too much of a difference between my Apple ones and these, but I’m bad at that kind of stuff so maybe they are?
~NEST Fragrances Scented Candle (Bamboo) ($14): I love me some NEST candles. They are pricey so I don’t often buy them on my own, but they make great gifts and are always a special splurge!
All totaled I came up with a value of $446.88 for the Nina Garcia Quarterly Co. (#NGQ03) which is pure insanity since this box was only $100. I thought this box was fabulous and now I am even more excited to get my Fall box. Is it September yet? Ha! As I was going through everything this afternoon I just kept thinking, why didn’t I subscribe to this box sooner? It’s right up my alley and I am thrilled.
Did you get the Nina Garcia Quarterly Co. box? What did you think and what variations did you get? This box is now sold out, but you can get signed up to get the #NGQ04 box here.
Yes, this was well worth the wait! Let’s see, the bag I got had fish bones on it, instead of the shark and is gray with green fringe. I got a cream colored shoe, and my nest candle is orange blossom. Everything else is the same as yours. Seriously though, this was awesome, and I can’t wait for the next one!!
Your clutch sounds really cute
Ahhh yay so glad to see your review! I got mine today! I got the blue shark clutch with yellow fringe, the pink shoe, bamboo Nest like you got, and the lipstick in kiss it (a magenta color). I actually liked this box better than the NGQ02, but I think I am canceling after this. Even though I liked almost everything, I just didn’t get the life-changing feeling I get after PS special edition boxes. 🙂 But I will look forward to your future NG reviews!!
I get that special feeling after I open all my boxes. LOL. Such an addict I am!
My tracking has not updated since July 2 🙁
Mine updated on the second and then again the day it showed up at my Post Office – which was today!
LOL about the shaving cream. Does your husband know you discuss such things? My husband would kill me! LOL.
I’m glad you liked your box. You always seem to be able to find something nice about everything. Very admirable.
Ha. He doesn’t mind. It doesn’t get that smooth without some work 😉
I noticed you don’t have to get that specific design in order to use the otterbox code. I got a design that was much more my style in the symmetry series, so that’s cool.
Yes! I noticed this as well. I got the Eden! What did you get?
Eden is pretty! I got dreamy pink
I might try to trade for more codes. LOL!
Yay, I was looking forward to reading your review after getting my box so that I could see your variations! 😀 I think the more that I look at the contents, the more I love this box. XD
Even my mom commented on how cool some of the items in it were!!!
I love the iPhone case, but I have a 5c and don’t think it would fit. 🙁
You know, I think it will let you pick any of the case sizes they have. Seriously give it a try!
Liked your review. Will live vicariously through you for these boxes. I agree with Jayne. U are a really happy soul and find something nie to say almost about all the items you receive in sub boxes. On some other blogs people were really mad that this box didn’t wow them are we’re venting big time. But your posts always make me smile. Such a positive person! 🙂
Look forward to reading more.
P.S – got my julep today. Selected classic with a twist and wasn’t super wowed .. 🙁 but I signed up when they had a promotion and it was $17 for 3 months. So it’s a win for sure 🙂 and the Body Milk is amazing. Nice light scent 🙂
Thank you! I have a serious love for getting surprise packages in the mail and I always go into it with the idea that I may not love everything single thing in it. I think it’s the surprise I love the most. But seeing what companies put together, learning about all new products and seeing how people use everything is super fun for me!
i have no space for the white shoe in my life. tradesies. i got the best pouch! will be posting from the road later, i hope!
What is the best pouch? I want to see!
I love that baseball hat – I don’t subscribe to this box so I am going to be looking on ebay for people who want to sell theirs — hopefully there will be plenty up for sale. All the rest of the box looks really nice. I am thinking of subscribing but that would mean i would have to refrain from the Pop Sugar Special Edition boxes and I’m not sure I can give those up. lol. You are a bad influence Jennifer. :p
Ohh I bet you will easily be able to find one!!!
I was a little sad when the box was sold out and I didn’t get it, but after seeing what was in the box I’m glad I did not order it. not really that impressed. Although the earbuds are nice and equal the value of the box so I would have been sort of satisfied but glad it was sold out and I could not order it!
That’s always a good feeling!
This was my first NG Box and I was so dissappointed. I really loved the first and second ones and this was my birthday present! 🙁
I’m trading EVERY SINGLE THING besides the earbuds! Oh and maybe the hair stuff. I’m debating if I should give it another chance or not.
;(
I got the same black shoe as you! My nest candle is Sicilian Tangerine and omg it is delicious! My bag is blue with a fish and yellow fringe. I have subscribed since her first box and it is no doubt my favorite subscription box. I wish it came monthly! Oh…I tweeted a pic of Jax wearing the hat on Saturday and she retweeted and said “looove”
Ohhh, I am jealous! I want her to retweet me!
So seriously, how can that Koku Clutch be worth $108???? Actually your Shark one looks okay, but the one I have with the fish skeleton and the yellow cheap Hawaiian lei trim? I’m just really trying to wrap my head around that one.
Bummed I didn’t realize you could use the code for the Otterbox for a different case. Not that I don’t love the one Nina designed because it’s awesome, but because my Sena cover won’t work with cases and it’s not one my husband would use. I would have loved to have given him a different one (I bought the Nina one and figured I’d give it to someone else).
I got the gold shoe ornament in my box. You want?
My 5 year old was sitting impatiently next to me waiting to see the shark clutch which was at the bottom of the box. He grabbed the hat as soon as I opened the box. His face lit up as soon as he saw his at-home shark pencil bag. It’s blue with yellow fringe with a shark on it. The ear buds are gorgeous. My sister is going to love them. Can’t wait to try the hair products and shaving gel. Shaving gel is free from parabens and sulfate! I like the palm tree clutch.
The candle fragrance is grapefruit. CK lipstick is kiss it. Formula X nailpolish is Push the Limits.
I used the gift code to order the phone case for my teen who is going to buy an iPhone 5.
I’m going to order a fall box and see how it goes. I think I would had been more exciting about the Summer box if I used ear buds or had the correct phone or liked the high item pouch. Looking forward to see what fashion items are included in the fall box.
This box looks amazing!!! I’d use every single item! Enjoy!
I received my box yesterday and opened it with a 5 year old eagerly waiting to see the shark clutch. He also claimed the baseball hat. I received the blue shark clutch with yellow fringe which is now holding a 5 year old’s treasures. I do like the palm tree print bag. I received the grapefruit nest fragance, CK lipstick is kiss it, and Formula X nailpolish is push the limits. My sister is going to love the earbuds. They are gorgeous.
The other Nina boxes I’ve been meh about, but this is one that I wish I could retroactively cash in on. It’s a fabulous box—and OMG the value! I actually feel like i would use more than half the items.
Some people are selling their full box!
I got the pink pump shoe if you are interested in trading for it… also the blue clutch with plexi skeleton fish and yellow fringe. It’s hideous.
Ohhh yes I so want that. What are you ISO?
Do you use a specific website for trading? I am interested in trading my fringe clutch, shoe, and hat…off the top of my head. I’m sure I have a few other things too. I subscribe to a few boxes! Thanks!
That is one good-looking box. I might jump on this for next time.
Formula X is probably my favorite polish brand lately, I’m sure you’ll love it! And oh man, I’ve just discovered NEST recently and I’m loving them. I just wish they’d make Amazon Lily into a candle as well as a perfume!
When I worked at a salon/beauty store, that K-Pak stuff flew off the shelves. I’ve always heard it’s incredible for people who do a lot of heat styling or have dry hair. Seriously, I had so many customers give me monologues about their love for that product xD Too bad I have oily hair that will not hold any style (thus making heat styling an exercise in futility) so I never had reason to try it.
I wish all the Nest scents were made into perfumes! I would love that.
