August 2014 Allure Sample Society

Today was a great subscription box day and included the delivery of my August 2104 Sample Society Box!  I give them a go for the first time last month and loved it!  I try to give all new subscriptions (new to me) three months before I make any decisions, but I think this was fabulous after only a month.

If you aren’t familiar, Sample Society is the brainchild of the editors of Allure Magazine. Each month they select a curated mix of five deluxe skin, hair makeup and fragrance samples and deliver them to your door. Your subscription also includes a $10 off $50 BeautyBar purchase each month and an Allure penned “mini-magazine” which gives you the details on all the samples.

The Box

Sample Society ships via UPS and took only two days to arrive.  I love that they use UPS and love the speedy delivery!

The Real Box

I love the red Sample Society boxes!  They are a great size to store some of your subscription box goodies in or to use as a box for trading items, etc.

First Look

Sample Society released three spoilers for this month’s box.  And then once the box shipped, I peeked in to my account where it lists all the items that are included in the box.  So even while I knew what was coming, opening it was still very exciting.

The Information Card

The August 2014 Allure Sample Society box includes the following items that allow for “effortless style”:

~Ciate Mini Paint Pot (Cha Cha Cha) ($5.55): Believe it or not, I actually just painted my nails this afternoon. In gold glitter (Tazeen from this month’s Julep) no less. Anyway, had I not I probably would have used this because it’s wild too. Maybe next time I will do this with just one gold nail. Assuming, that is, that I can ever get all this glitter off my nails ;).

~Oribe Travel Surfcomber Tousled Texture Mousse ($21.50): I like sea salt spray a lot and I totally enjoy the Oribe dry texture spray, so this is great.  I may actually end up loving this even more because it can be used on damp hair. (ETA: The card suggests dry hair and that they got crazy results using it on wet hair and then blow-drying.  I am still going to try it on damp hair and will report back).

~Too Faced Cosmetics Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick (Peony) ($8.40): This isn’t a gloss, but isn’t a lipstick either.  It’s both.  It’s glossy like a lip gloss, but has the staying power and color of a lipgloss. The little brush applicator thing is cool too.  I already want this in other colors.

~Jane Iredale Longest Lash Mascara (Black Ice) ($7.86): I will happily use this mascara (I haven’t tried it in the past and don’t know that I have ever used mascara in a squeeze tube), but I have SO many still to use ahead of it.  I want to try ALL the mascaras (but at the same time not waste them) and that’s just not working out.  I may have to hand some off to friends.

~Kate Somerville Dilo Oil Restorative Treatment ($6.50): This oil (please tell me you had to look twice at the name too) is suppose to strengthen the skin’s moisture barrier improving skin hydration, improves the look of skin firmness and elasticity, evens skin tone, and helps to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles. All right, let’s do all that! I am looking forward to seeing the results on this!

All totaled I came up with a value of $49.81 for the August 2014 Sample Society Box.  Considering I only paid $15 of this one, I am quite happy about it.  Quite happy.  The Oribe alone makes it worth it!  And I didn’t even include the $10 off $50 BeautyBar.com coupon code that subscribers receive every month which would make the value even more.
