Today was another great mail day around here and included the arrival of my August 2014 ipsy bag!

If you aren’t familiar, ipsy is $10/month and sends its members a beautiful Glam Bag with 4-6 deluxe samples and full-sized beauty products. Their bags always have an incredible value (well over the $10 cost) and I am always amazed at how they do it.

The Bag

ipsy ships via DHL Global Mail (starts out as DHL and is delivered by USPS) and took eleven days to arrive this month.  Some months it takes only four or five days.  Some months it takes double that. You just never know!

First Look

As usual I peeked (okay I basically stalked it until the reveal happened) at my ipsy bag so I knew what I was getting already.  But I had been pretty happy with my what saw in “My Glam Room” so I was hoping that it lived up to my expectations.  I believe there were seventeen different products this month and each Glam bag contained five of those seventeen.

The Information Card

The August 2014 ipsy theme is “Beauty Schooled” and included the following items to help you get “schooled” this month:

~Absolute Lip Balm (Green Apple) ($3): LOVE! I was happy to get the balm instead of the tube and I love this scent. I was surprised, however, that it was red instead of green.  Green apple = green.  LOL! I guess I didn’t think about the fact that it was tinted?  Anyway, for $3, I may just have to get the rest of the flavors of this. Has anyone ever seen these in the store? I need to find them.

~GLAMGLOW YOUTHMUD® Tinglexfoliate Treatment ($20.29): OMG yes! I was so excited when I saw this in my Glam room. I still have one sample left of this and have been “saving” it because I don’t want to not have a back-up. It’s such an expensive product, but I so love it.

~Urban Decay Perversion Mascara ($5.50):  When I saw the spoiler this month for the Urban Decay I was so hoping to get the mascara instead  of the eyeliner and I did!  I actually love getting the smaller mascaras because I have trouble finishing up a full sized tube and these smaller sized actually let me try more that I receive.

~Lord & Berry Silk Kajal Kohl Eye Pencil (~$5): I have no idea what the price is of a full size eyeliner since the Lord and Berry shop is down, so I guessed at the price.  This will end up in the gift / trade pile since eyeliner isn’t my thing.  I am sure I can find a good home for this.

~Manna Kadar Cosmetics Sheer Glo ($7.83): I have tried this in the past (I want to say I got a full size in Wantable a while back) and really liked it. This little sample will work great on vacation.  I will recommend NOT applying too much though.  A little bit goes a long way.

~The Bag: This month’s bag reminds me of a pencil case (that’s probably the point) and I plan to use it as just that!  Or maybe a bag to store just lip glosses in?  Decisions, decisions!

The Bag

All totaled I came up with a value of $41.62 for the August 2014 ipsy bag and I am beyond thrilled with it.  There is only one thing (the eyeliner) that I am going to end up passing along to someone else which is awesome.  For $10 I got an incredible ipsy bag this month!  I don’t always get such a fabulous bag, but it’s month’s like this that totally make up for those other months!

This months bag totally reminded me of a pencil case too. lol
I really like your bag, I swear you always get the best one! I like mine too, but yours is a tad bit better 🙂

    1. Jennifer

Oh no, I get some crazy bags!!!!

I love the colors of the bag but I’m not sure I’m going to use it. I liked the lip balm. It’s super cute and I put it on my desk. I also got the coastal eye shadow sampler, the mascara, Dr Brandt Pore refiner, and a body lotion.

I actually just saw the Absolutely lip balms at Marshalls! Haha. If you have one of those near you (or TJ Maxx since they are owned by the same people) you should check out the beauty section for them! They had a two pack for like $4!

    1. Jennifer

Ahh, I was just there (both places actually) and didn’t see them. Guess I will need to go back….

I think this is the best Ipsy review that I have seen yet. The Glamglow makes the bag.

    1. Jennifer

      For sure!

  5. Victoria

A girl on MUT found those lip balms in the discount makeup bin at her local Marshall’s. A two pack was like $4 if I remember correctly.

    1. Jennifer

Someone else said that too! I need to look!

I loved my August glam bag too. The mascara was great even with my extra sensitive eyes. I posted my blog yesterday and thought the same thing about the bag. Placing my pens/markers/pencils for meetings and such! I really needed a new one for sure!

  7. Jenny

I agree you got the rockstar bag. While I like my bag I love your bag. I’ve never tried the Glamglow but wow is it pricey. So much for a sample now I know why everyone wanted it.

    1. Jennifer

      The GlamGlow is so nice!

  8. Robin Merrell

I saw the lip glosses at TJ Maxx today next to the register.

    1. Jennifer

      Ohh, I will look there!

I just went tonight to my TJ Maxx – got 2 packs of balms – grape and bubble gum and green apple and strawberry – 4 bucks each 2 pack!

I know what I am doing tomorrow!

  10. Summer

You do get the best bags. I’d love to know the answers to your quiz so I can copy! 🙂

    1. Jennifer

      Oh not always!!!!!!!

  11. Loren

I’ve seen a two pack of the Absolute balm in the checkout section of Ulta

  12. Susan

I must’ve hit the jackpot because I got the exact same products that you did this time. I got the glam glow in another sub within the past month, but haven’t tried it yet, so I have two. Can’t wait to try it now!

  13. Kathy

Such a horrible bag this month that I cancelled. Everything was so tiny and not one thing that I would use.

    1. Jennifer

      Ugh. What did you get?

  14. Erica Scott

My TJ Maxx carries the lip balm also by the register. Would you like me to pick you up a couple of them?

    1. Jennifer

I actually grabbed some earlier this week! I got both packs for $3 each!! I was so excited. Thank you for offering!

    1. Jennifer

I love the pores no more!

Hi, Jennifer! I was looking through some Ipsy reviews and yours caught my attention, so I thought I’d pop by and check it out! Nicely done! My bag was the same except for 2 products. Instead of the GlamGlow, I got a hair revitalizing spray from Free Your Mane and instead of the Absolute Balm, I got a Bee Natural Grapefruit stick balm. I so wish that I’d received the GlamGlow. For me, the UD mascara is the one item that saved the day. I have extremely sensetive eyes and I’m in love with the formula. Jet black, not too wet or dry, smooth as silk and not a clump in sight. Definite repurchase for me. That teeeeny kajal liner was hysterical, though. I did get on the Lord and Berry site and it retails for about $20 for the full sized pencil, so I guess that’s why it’s so tiny. But, I’ve received plenty of high end full sized eye and lip pencils in past Ipsy bags, so I was surprised by this. As much as I hate to say it and as disappointed as I was by the size, I have to admit that it’s a nice one. Highly pigmented, no drag at all and it stays put all day. That being said, I am worried about the overall quality of the last few bags, compared to what I have been getting the last year and a half. But for 10 bucks, I’ll stick with it for a while longer and see if things get better. Have an awesome week!

    1. Jennifer

      Thanks!

The Glam Glow is so fabulous! Maybe you will get it in a future bag? I hope so!!!
