Yay! B’s September 2014 Birchbox Man box is here! It’s one of the first of the September boxes to arrive and I was happy to see it. It means that fall is coming and, of course, a fresh set of boxes for a new month!
If you aren’t familiar, Birchbox Man is $20/month and sends you monthly deliveries of deluxe grooming and lifestyle samples, tailored to your profile. With Birchbox Man you can try cult brands, up-and-coming lines, and everything in between.
Birchbox Man ships via UPS Mail Innovations and, unlike my August Woman’s box, this one took just a few days to arrive.
This month’s Men’s Birchbox was a collaboration with the folks over at Bonobos and select boxes (not mine) included a $100 gift card to Bonobos!
Men’s Birchbox boxes are revealed on the 25th of the month and you can either check in the app to see what you are getting or you can go online to look. If you do it online, you just need to click on “Boxes”, then “Men’s” and the contents should appear. B received Box #21 this month.
The September 2014 Birchbox Man theme was “Hit the Books” and included the following products:
~Field Notes Mixed 3-Pack with Clic Pens ($11.50): Meh. Neither of us are overly excited by these. I am sure one of us (or the kids) will eventually use them, but they wouldn’t have been my first lifestyle pick this month (the tie-clip would have been).
~Gilchrist & Soames London Collection Body Lotion ($3): I believe I have gotten something from this brand in one of my Birchbox boxes and recall liking it. The lotion smells good and does really work for either men or women. And I was reading more about the description of them and it turns out that they do stock “some of the finest hotels” with their products. I knew it! For some reason this just reminds me of hotel products. In a good way of course.
~Billy Jealousy White Night Gentle Daily Facial Cleanser ($2.50): This was B’s sample choice selection this month. He has used it in the past and has been quite happy with it. He’s been traveling a lot this summer (and will be this fall as well), so these sample sizes work out well for him.
~CoSTUME NATIONAL Eau de Parfume HOMME ($1.65): This smells great, but ouch, it’s expensive! Ahh! B likes it, but I don’t know that he likes it enough to buy the full size of it. It would have to be beyond amazing to get the full size.
~Bonobos Anchor Chief Pocket Square ($42): We love Bonobos (they have great stuff for B for work and play), but I can’t say that he’ll ever use a pocket square. I may be able to find some other use for it though. Not totally sure what, but something else.
All totaled I came up with a value of $60.65 for the September 2014 Birchbox Man box and that doesn’t even include the points for purchasing the box (**) and reviewing the products, which would bring the value to $67.65. While the value was there and worth the $20 we spent, I didn’t think it was one of my favorite boxes ever. The lifestyle item wasn’t our favorite and I think we could have done without a pocket square. I hope that down the road they allow us to pick our lifestyle items! That would be amazing.
Do you get Birchbox Man box this month? What’d you think of the box this month and what lifestyle item did you get (I believe there were socks, a notebook, and a tie bar)? If you are interested in subscribing or just want to learn more, click here!
Would gladly swap you the notebooks for the tie bar =) I got box #2.
I might do that!!! I will ask B!
We are getting the tie clip and I was so bummed!!! I would have rather for the iPhone cord or the notebook. I really wish we could choose our lifestyle item. For a guy who works in a bakery and never has to dress up a tie clip will never get used 🙁
If you can’t find a use for the pocket square and you wouldn’t mind selling it, let me know, I have a friend who carries hankies and I think he might really like this.
Will do!
Mike should be getting his box later this week. I peeked at the contents and he will be getting the iphone cord…which he had liked when we saw the sneak peek. Now we just wait to see what color he gets. I’m not sure he will ever use the pocket square either.
The cord is cool! We either have a dozen iPhone cords on our counter or we cannot find a single cord anywhere!!!
My bf’s BB Man showed up at our house yesterday too, he was beyond thrilled and said this was by far his best box ever! He received the tie clip (which is perfect for him and is the perfect size for skinny ties which is mostly what he wears) I swear if he had come across that tie clip in a store he would have been willing to spend a lot on it so its so great we got it here! He also loves the pocket square– it won’t get a ton of use but maybe if we go to a summer wedding or other event, he has been known to wear pocket squares in the past. I was really impressed by this month- way to go BB!
My 15 year old son received his first Birch Box. His first words to me were that we should had order this sooner. He received the Baxter of California Deodorant, Bill Jealousy White Knight Gentle Daily Facial Cleanser, English Laundry Rivera Eau de Toilette which he loves the scent, Bonobos Anchor Chief Pocket Square, and the Riada by Adair Tie Bar. He is going to use the pocket square and tie bar as gifts. He?s really happy with it and been trying out his items.
How cute is he?????
He prefers to think he is hot LOL. It’s been interesting watching my little boy growing into a teen. It’s sad too because only 3 more years until college. Then he wants to find that wonderful Chicago girl and marry her and living happily ever after in Chicagoland. At least Chicago traffic doesn’t scare me. It’s bad, but I don’t get lost like I do in other cities/suburbs. My younger son will be six in a week. No more little ones. Makes me want to cry at times. They are good sons and should grow up into good men.
Did you make it over to Lego Discovery Center while in Chicago?
We did! L loved it! I think he could have spent all day just racing cars down the ramps.
